...I am writing a review on the product Compeed cold sore Patch. Compeed® Cold Sore Patch is an invisible patch that uses certain ingredients to treat cold sores from START-TO-FINISH. it is a small clear patch the size of your finger nail. It is applied using a butterfly application where the seal applies it and not your fingers. It is the most discreet way to cover and hal your cold sores. My Opinion I purchased this product last week when i broke out in a cold sore on the upper lip. I seen it advertised and it looked really good so i bought it in superdrug for 6:15 - i cudnt believe i actually paid that much for it. Anyway i started using it, and when your wearing it it realy does make the cold sore invisible. Unless your up close and personal to the person wearing it, you would not know its being worn. Cold sores or herpes labialis are liquid filled blisters that erupt around the lips, nose or chin (sound delightful don't they).They are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 or in scientific terms HSV-1 and are the most common of the herpes family. Cold sores are triggered by a number of factors such as physical and emotional stress, anxiety, having a fever, cold or flu, exposure to the sun and ultraviolet light, menstruation or hormones. ...Its that time of year when most of us are prone to nasty colds, cracked lips and painful cold sores. The cold winter months are here and we all need to be extra careful as germs easily spread from one person to another. If your like me who gets cold sores every time I get the flu or cold then you know exactly how painful this feels. Its bad enough to have a stuffed up nose or a high fever let alone thumping blisters on your lips. According to my Doctor most cold sores are brought about when feeling run down and in some cases when feeling depressed. In my case I seem to get them a lot in winter, my lips are sensitive to cold wintry weather, they become dry, sore and chapped, this and any slight contact with anyone who has a cold makes me vulnerable to cold sores. I cannot understand those people who come into work with a real bad cold...

A cold sore prevention method that works!

Advantages: it works! no need to reapply frequently as with a cream, relatively discreet
Disadvantages: peels off a little after eating/drinking

...I have suffered from cold sores since being a small child and found nothing helped until Zovirax (which is very good). I was interested in this product when I saw in advertised but was reluctant to leave Zovirax behind as it was so good and I had tried so many products when I was younger which had little effect. However,I woke up with the tingly feeling and a tiny blister (sure signs that a cold sore was on the way!) on a day when I had a 5 hour drive. I didn't want to keep stopping to apply cream so I thought I would give Compeed patches a go. ...I often get cold sores in really cold weather and so I thought I would give these a try, since their advert showed lipstick being applied afterwards. Sods law dictated that I got two cold sores this time round so i thought I would only treat one to see just how well it worked. It was brilliant. Within a week the treated one had healed without cracking my lip when i bit into a chunk of a sandwich! The price to treat just one cold sore is per packet of 15 at £6.99, it may be a bit extreme but it is well worth the money. The outer packing does not tell you how to apply , or how long to treat the cold sore is required. That is all inside on the instruction leaflet, i must admit i was abit disappointed that there wasn't more patches. ...I know everyone has given this product a rave review but I feel I have to add a lone voice of dissent. I accept that the patch covers the cold sore but that was the only advantage I discerned. I have tried to express my concerns to Compeed themselves but their website makes it pretty clear that they do not want to know if you have had a problem, telling you to go to your GP. Like many of you out there I have had cold sores for a number of years and I have tried all sorts of remedies. My pharmacist suggested I try the Compeed patches and asked me to let him know my views. I have read the formulation on the compeed site so I accept that there isn't any medication within the patch so it is there to offer a barrier and to hide the outbreak. However my cold sore did not like being hermetically sealed one little bit and it grew and grew...

...I have suffered with cold sores for many years but thankfully don't have frequent attacks. The creams (mainly Zovirax) do help, but as you still have to go through the blister period. I decided to give Compeed a go. They come in a dispenser which means that they remain hygenic when chucked in a handbag, but at nearly £6 for 15 patches they are over priced for the benefits they provide. They are easy to apply and it does look a lot nicer than a blob of cream on your lip. You need to take care that you don\'t over stretch the patch on your lip when first applying as it then feels strange and the patches don't last as long. I also found that they feel like they are peeling off when they get damp from eating or drinking. And when they get damp then they become more visible and are as not as discreet. ...I can't stand cold sores they are a pain , annoying and they can't be disguised. That's why there is only one way to get rid of them and that is to use a really expensive cream that works. Out of all my freinds I'm the only person who gets cold sores and unfortunately I get them all the time even during the summer. THere are other creams on the market but a lot of them are useless so that's why I have to use zovirax. But now cause I have found a cure I get it prescribed off the doctor and now it's free. There is also another small problem with zovirax the tube it comes in is very small and in some ways a waste of money. Even tough it does work it can be useless if it doesn't work for some people and a big waste of money. But the fact is once you have cold sores they are there and there to stay. Advantages: Quick at relieving cold sores.

...I have used Boots Own brand Avert Cold Sore Cream on many occasions to relieve both the symptoms of cold sores on my lips and relieve the itchiness of cold sores before they appear. This cream is an excellent way of dually preventing & relieving this nasty problem. The tube only contains 2g of cream, but you don't need much to rub onto the affected area. The main active ingredient is Aciclovir 5% w/w. Other ingredients include Poloxamor 407, Cetosearyl, Alcohol, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, White Soft Paraffin & others. To use this cream you must wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying to the affected area. I use my finger end to gently rub a small amount over the itchy part of my lip (if i feel a cold sore starting to appear), or if one has already developed. I repeat the above application about every 3-4 hours...
