If you go down to the woods today.....
Advantages: brillant location, traditional hunting lodge.
Disadvantages: avoid weekends with wedding receptions.
...Yes if you go down to the woods one day, and you happen to be travelling on the B2408 between Coleford and Cinderford, you will come across The Speech House Hotel set in a clearing in the middle of the Forest of Dean.
The Royal Forest of Dean located in the south west corner of Gloucestershire, between the river Seven and river Wye, with links from the M4, M5, and M50
Over the passed 30 odd years I have stayed in this Hotel. But having stayed there last in 2004 it would interesting to see how the place looked, as they were in the middle of a refurbishment.
The Speech House is independently run Hotel, affiliated to the Best Western Group so I will run you past both websites

They have much improved their own website. The layout and information given is of a good standard. There are...

Lucozade Orange
Advantages: Delicious!
Disadvantages: Too fizzy for some??
...' for this review was that Lucozade is now made at the Royal Forest Factory at Coleford in the Forest of Dean. A countryside drink then. Always good.
Now, it's obviously jam-packed with sugars and calories to help 'battle through the day' (not my words, the words on the packaging), which means a 380ml bottle comes with 266 calories in each one, with 65.4 grams of carbohydrates, the majority of which turns into sugar.
Here's a run down of the ingredients....
Carbonated water, glucose fruclose syrup (24%), orange juice from concentrate (5%), citric acid, preservatives (potassium sorbate, sodium bisulphate), stabiliser (acacia gum), caffeine (0.012%), antioxidant (ascorbic acid), flavourings, colour (beta caolene).
...wow, that all sounds terrible!
Some people will find it too sweet and sugary, some may find it too fizzy as it does have...

Fruit in a bottle
Advantages: really Fruity taste
Disadvantages: A shade sweet perhaps, and a bit pricey
...II'm feeling a bit nostalgic tonight, I find myself wandering back to my childhood with a glimpse of the Ribena bottle standing on the kitchen counter.
To be honest we never got Ribena very often it was too expensive which it still is to this day. On the occasions when we did though it was a big treat. The dilution of the mixture was controlled by my Mum just in case we overdone it on the Ribena side. We could use as much water as we wanted LOL..
Ribena is one of these products, which seem to withstand the test of time no matter what price it is. This is an indication of the amount of trust the consumer has put in this product.
Ribena has been in Britain now for almost 70 years. The company Glaxosmithkline produce 750 million bottles or cartons a year, and it is still bottled in the original factory in Coleford in the Forest...

Queen of the Forests
Advantages: Gorgeous location, so much to see and do
Disadvantages: None!
...didn't know either!):
The ancient Royal Forest. This is classed as the heart of the Forest and is probably the more 'built up' area. Here is where you can find the market towns, Cinderford (where I live) and Coleford, which both have the usual small town array of shops, supermarkets, schools, banks, hairdressers and pubs, but you're never too far from the wood.
The Wye Valley. This stunning spot is right on the English / Welsh border and is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as being a wonderful place to experience the breathtaking scenery and tranquility it also boasts an exciting range of activities such as canoeing, hiking, climbing and biking.
The Vale of Leadon. More toward the Northern section and including the pretty town of Newent. A very charming and picturesque area, well known...

Magical forests
Advantages: idyllic, beautiful......plenty of woodland!!!
Disadvantages: quiet for those party people!!!
...were planted over 11,000 acres. Thank you Lord Nelson!!! Obviously there was still a high demand for the timber so from then on there were carefull planting and felling programmes which have kept our glorious forest for us to enjoy today. Anyway there is a "brief" overview for you!!!
****THE VILLAGES AND TOWNS****
1 - The "Royal Ancient Forest"
Coleford - Situated in the middle of the Forest, coleford is a small market town, comprising of the few essential shops expected in a town, Bells hotel and golf course, plenty of takeaways, banks, and on the outskirts forest hills golf course.
Cinderford - again another main forest town, and again another market town. Cinderford is slightly bigger than coleford, therefore has more shops and services. No golf courses here though!!! Cinderford along with coleford lies in the heart...
