...although this film is really ratehr good, i found as a girl trying to prove to my best friends that colin firth really was attractive, the openign scene did very little to place that belief firmly in their minds, and no amount of my cajoling can remove it, despite my efforts. but on to the story... i truly believe, unlike many, that this film did not ruin the play by wilde. it is perfectly casted with colin firth protraying the lead character, jack's change from country gentleman to popular townie to a tee. everett as usual is on form, playing jack's dandy of a friendly rival, the bantering between the two is realistic and entertaining, especially when everett is trying to capture the heart of jack's ward, (witherspoon). meanwhile, jack has fallen desperately in love with gwendolene, and is trying desperately to win her hand, but...

Ive got a jumper like Colin Firths

Advantages: Excellant film
Disadvantages: Not enough hanky panky. No Guns. No car chases. No Murders

...Its amazing to say that I actually enjoyed watching this film as normally Im not in to girlie type films. I would rather be talking about current affairs and the results of the forecoming general election, while drinking a cool pint of Fosters than have the embarrassment of someone seeing me leave the cinema after seeing a film like this!! The lead part is played brillantly by Renee Zellweger, and unfortunally shes an American, so Im unlikely to bump into her so I can sweep her of her feet. She plays the part of a 30+ Bridget Jones who bumps along in life slightly overweight, while drinking and smoking excessively. This I can really relate to except I dont look good in a short skirt. Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) both have messy relationships with Bridget and have unexpected twists in the tales. The film...

...The storyline of this film is very similar to others - a bit of an Eliza Dolittle. Well written film though, and well worth watching. Daphne is an American Girl who has never met her father. She travels to England to meet him, and he is an English Lord standing for parliament. Obviously the scandal of a secret daughter threatens to disrupt his campaign, and Daphne - the brash American Kid - is persuaded to behave like an English lady. There are lots of good bits in this film, including the appearance of a Prince Charles lookalike. And I like the comment at the beginning when someone is in the loo - and Daphne looks bewildered before asking 'Who's Lou?' Watch for Stephen Fry, and Colin Firth's hair

Disadvantages: Some actors were miscast; all a bit old-fashioned and unconvincing

...My DVD of ?Relative Values? came as a free gift with some magazine or other. I hadn?t heard of the movie at all, and it languished unplayed for a good few months. The cover claims that it?s ?outstandingly funny?. And it boasts a good cast ? with names like Colin Firth, Stephen Fry, Julie Andrews, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. So I last decided to give at a go. I found it very tedious, and too slow. I began to lose interest in the characters and the story after about 20 minutes, but I stuck the whole movie out. Overall, I thought it was very dull, superficial and not even very much fun. As for ?outstandingly funny? ? well, perhaps I?d go so far as to say it was mildly funny. I?m not sure if I can easily pinpoint why I didn?t like ?Relative values? ? it?s not just that it?s not a very deep movie ? but I think it may partly be its tone...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Colin Cotterill's engaging plot and droll narrative blends beautifully a first-rate modern (well almost modern) mystery with the old ways of the spirit world and shamanism. Set against the backdrop of a country ruined by long term political upheavals with many inhabitants living in extreme poverty, Cotterill treats their individual stories sympathetically and with an understanding that comes from having lived and worked himself in South East Asia. This is an amusing and unusual series of books. Fortunately secret agent Paula Gray stumbles over him, save his life and so Cord Dillon is spirited away to a secret underground bunker on the Kent coast.
