...The Coliseum is the sister to The Outlet Village.Situated right next door you can't miss it if you're gonna go there.But go there you should.As well as some larger stores such as Argos,Bookers,The Holiday Hypermarket and Dixons there are also some excellent places to eat.Go there day or night and you should get a table at any of the restaurants.These include Bella Pasta,Italian,obviously but they have some nice twists here.I used it only last week and it was the first time I had seen sliced duck breast on a pizza.But they also do lots of things with sea-food and the lay-out allows you to see the chefs at work in all there "flaming" glory.Of course there are all the regular favourites too.Drinks are in bottles only but not too badly priced.A great place to enjoy a family/friends meal. ...The Coliseum in Manchester is not what you would expect. Everyone always talks of Affleck's Pallace and The Coliseum as being just as good as each other, but I disagree. In The Coliseum, there are very few shops and those there are very small and sell very little. Most of the shops are shut up. The whole place smells of urine and it is difficult to get around. The floors don't seem to connect and you end up lost after about five minutes. It is also very tatty looking and a place where you won't feel safe....

...Whoever would have called "the" London Coliseum a nightclub? Sure, it's not the Royal Opera but while it will have you on the edge of your seat, I can't see many bopping in the aisles! Now, first it has to be said that all the performances (generally) are in English, rather than the original language of the work. This may bother purists, but frankly, it all adds to the fun. The often witty and always clever translations (and how faithful to the original they are, I simply couldn't say) are a source of entertainment in their own right. Production are usually spectacular in the wonderful auditorium. And the great thing is that tickets are always available on the day and at a very reasonable price. Roman epic

Advantages: Effects, scenery, action

...Martin Crowe (Maximus) in the title role as a Roman hero fallen on hard times is rather good, Joaquin Phoenix (Commodus) is an easily loathed villain, and Oliver Read in his last role is excellent as the 'sports agent'. However acting isn't what this film is about. The stunning depiction of the Coliseum, the fantastic opening battle scene, the gladiator fighting, the different venues, make film stunningly watchable. The gladiatorial contest in the Coliseum involving the chariots, is the best scene in the film. Ridley Scott's direction is fabulous. The opening scene is vaguely reminiscent of Saving Private Ryan, and conveys the brutality of war. The storyline is reasonably predictable, but the effects and scenery are just awesome. ...I found this film to be fascinatingly addictive, at all times throughout the film the audience felt captivated by the true acting and mind blowing site of the coliseum. With a powerful acting performance by Russell Crowe, aka 'Maximus Decimus Meridius', which was recently rewarded with an Empire award, finding its way to the hearts of viewers across the land. Despite his strong acting performance you may have found his accent at times bewildering, it seemed to jump between English and his native Australian. However this did not affect his all round brilliant display. His performance accompanied by another award winning performance, that of Connie Nielsen, this film found itself star studded throughout, with greats such as lifetime achiever award winner, Richard Harris, and the late great Oliver Reed. ...Wow what a film, it combines politics with action very well. Just when you think you are being spoilt by too much action the film breaks back to the slower paced political side of the film. My overall impression when I first saw the film was how good the battle scenes were. They were reminiscent of those seen in Brave Heart; they were fast, furious and very detailed. The scenes in the gladiator ring were just as good as the battles and in places quite gory. The computer generated images in the film were very good and convincing, which some films don?t quite manage. ...Ridley Scott has done to Roman Epics what Steven Spielberg did for WW II movies: destroy all the traditional cliches and bring a more realistic approach to the subject. What most impressed me was the realistic portrayal of the fights making us realize that violence is not an entertainment. The high quality of the production is reflected in every single detail: from the shining face mask of the gladiator to the giant coliseum, passing by a bird's-eye view of Rome that the Romans themselves couldn't even see, to the splendid illustrations of the atrocities of the arenas and the battlefields. The plot is just like what one would expect from such movies. The message is simple: Loyalty and honor are worth fighting for. Everyone should see Gladiator and enjoy the wonderful acting and the marvelous special effects....

...What a city. It seems to have everything. If its culture you are after there is so much to see and the advantage is it is spread over a relatively small area. Even if you only spend a day in Rome you will have the opportunity to see the sights everyone else talks about. The Forum, St Peters, Vatican City, The Trevi fountains, the river Tiber, the coliseum and so much more. If you are in Rome you will be able to see these in a leisurley fashion but if you are staying elswhere and get the opportunity for a flying visit for the day do not despair, jump at the chance. You will be surprised at how much you will be able to see and, of course photograph. It will be an unforgetable experience....
