Colonial themed dining on Breda's main square

Advantages: Good service, reasonable food and prices

...INTRODUCTION The main square of Breda, South Netherlands has a plethora of restaurants on it. Being here for a while means that I can try pretty much all of them if I fancy, and so in the interests of consumer research I have started to go to some of the places I have not been before, mainly because I have had low expectations of them. Only one way to find out I guess! THE RESTAURANT Paviljoen de Colonie is a chain of restaurants in The Netherlands, other locations other than Breda being Houten, Maarssen, Utrecht, 's Graveland, Amersfoort and Waardenburg. SPACE COLONY

Advantages: Its the Sims only cheaper
Disadvantages: The cover makes your eyes go funny

...WOW! I walked into a highstreet shop, and there it was SPACE COLONY! I was on my lunch break and only had a couple of pounds on me! This is currently selling at £1.99, and I felt it was worth the risk, even if its rubbish I havent wasted that much money! The cover is made to look 3D, so when you move it from side to side some of the pictures move. The manual inside is rather thick, but you will need to read it! I am not a believer in manuals, but I did have to refer to this one every now and then! There are three modes you can play in, the 1st is just to play, where you follow the main character Venus and her colleagues. The second is Galaxy mode, where you create your own path working on different contracts and the more you earn, the more options become available. I lost myself with the lost colony

Advantages: Simply couldn't put it down - a brilliant read!
Disadvantages: Ummmmm, errrrrr, none!

Not exactly colonial

Advantages: Central, inexpensive.
Disadvantages: Poor service, stark rooms, no English cable tv.

...The Hotel des Colonies is on a side street off of one of Brussells' main drags (not far from the Gare du Nord). It is right next to the huge Sheraton, and a few hundred yards from what seems to be the heart of the local sex trade (lots of places called 'Bar American'!). The brochure said it was recently refurbished. If 1970s is recent, then that is true. The rooms are functional, but the general hotel facilities are not. The bar is closed all weekend. the concierge had difficulty speaking the local language, let alone English. The street outside was rather grotty (not really their fault - road works). Booked a double (they do actually have double rooms) but got a twin. But... not too pricy, certainly compared with near neighbours....

...Set on Mars, Dark Colony is a strategy game in which you take control of either a group of space marines or aliens known as The Grays. As the leader of these marines or aliens it is your job to ensure various missions are fulfilled which contribute to the colonization and domination of Mars. These missions vary from simply destroying the opposition or their base, defending territory, building a base and defending it or capturing a position. Dark Colony is a Real Time Strategy game which is an obvious clone of Command and Conquer. This does not however, make it a bad game. The plot is interesting and can be approached from two angles. Advantages: Nice food, excellent service

Oh frot - Grant without Naylor

Advantages: A bit like Red Dwarf
Disadvantages: Not enough like Red Dwarf

...again. The last series of Red Dwarf was abysmal, but I stuck with it because I was a hopeless addict by then and was completely involved with the characters. So if Grant does a follow-up to Colony, I will probably read it, because I have started to get to know these new characters. The author has a good track record, so I'll give him another chance. 'The Island' A memorable insight into life in a Leper colony

Advantages: Well drawn charcters and an interesting plot
Disadvantages: none in my opinion!

People suffering from leprosy would be removed from their homes and families and forced to live on the island until they died. The island was called Spinalonga and it was a completely self ruled and almost self sufficient community.
