Olympic Whistler
Advantages: Spectacular scenery, something to suit everyones tastes
Disadvantages: It is a bit far to go from Shropshire
...~~WHISTLER~~
It has been thirty years since my hubby has seen his mom and I have never met her as we have only been together sixteen years. We speak every week on the phone but this year we have actually got the funds together and gone over to Canada for a week and met my mother in law of 93yrs young (she was fitter than me, lol). We visited in May 2009 and had a fantastic time with mom and seeing how beautiful Canada was, we stayed with mom in North Vancouver. As we were only there for a week we did a fair amount of family things and looked at a few local attractions; on a couple of days we went out to see some beautiful spots like Cypress Mountain, the Richmond Olympic Oval and Whistler. All these attractions will be hosting events during the winter Olympics of 2010; everywhere you went they were already selling Olympic...

Don't forget Whistler in the summertime.
Advantages: Excellent resturants, outdoor activities
Disadvantages: A bit busy in the village
...Summary
Whistler is a purpose built resort for having fun, lots of summer activities are avaliable in August and the hotels are of a good quality. Resturants are sparse, but the quality is very good. I highly recommend the 'Araxi', but if you are on a budget 'The Spaghetti factory' is the place for you. Just remmber to book either before you go.
General information
I had heard about Whistler as a ski resort, so when my wife and I where planning our honeymoon to Canada in the summer we missed out Whistler. However our travel agent said our journey from Clearwater to Vancouver would be a killer so we should stop off at Whistler. We agreed and I think we had the best two days of the hoilday here.
Whistler is situated about a two hour drive north of Vancouver, nestled into the mountains it is mainly a resort for skiing. The dude...

Whistler....Yeah
Advantages: You'll look good.
Disadvantages: It hurts
...OK, this is the next episode in my opinion fairy story. This op is split between the ski resort of Whistler, and snowboarding in general. Both of them are mint.
Whistler
Whistler is located in British Columbia, Canada. Thats on the West Coast, about 2 hours from Vancouver, along the spectacular 'Sea to Sky' Highway. It is a purpose built resort, split into two halves, Whistler and Blackcomb, which used to be separately owned and run but have since been amalgamated into a single world class resort. The skiing and snow is second to none - the range and quality of the runs is unsurpassed, from groomed blues to unpisted glacier runs, open snow at the top to winding tree runs lower down. The area is serviced by a fabulous lift system, so there are few queues. The town itself can only be described as quaint yet functional - it has...

The rider's guide to Whistler
Advantages: Fantastic terrain, beautiful scenery.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive and is a longway from the UK
...Whistler is one of the most famous ski resorts in North America and so it should be! It offers some of the most varied and high quality terrain in the world. I've spent a few months snowboarding there over the last couple of years and thought I'd share a bit of info about the place.
HOW TO GET THERE
Whistler is a two to three hour drive from Vancouver along the gorgeous Highway 99. This journey is a treat in itself - hugging the shoreline of Puget Sound (which looks like the Scottish Highlands in many places), before heading into the mountains and through small logging communities.
There are regular buses from Vancouver airport and from downtown Vancouver. The airport bus, the Perimeter Whistler Express is quite pricey - about £25 each way - but it does drop you off at your hotel. You should book this in advance by phone...

Best hotel in Whistler?
Advantages: Luxury hotel in Whistler
Disadvantages: I had to go home!
...I stayed at this Four Seasons Hotel during July 2005. Not quite the right season perhaps to go to Whistler, as it's associated with skiing and wintersports (hence the 2010 Winter Olympics) but it was a trip organised by my company so I didn't have much choice in the matter. I was there for four days and loved every minute!
Whistler itself is an outdoor community, in that if you're into sport and activity there's plenty to do. During the winter you can ski down the mountain, but when there's no snow, the Canadians just mountain bike down it instead.
The hotel is fantastic. It's not in the centre of Whistler, but Whistler is small enough to make it within easy walking distance of everything.
We arrived mid-afternoon and checked into our room easily. We were lucky enough to be given a suite and it was fantastic. We were...

Why Whistler is the Worlds Best (my best day ever)
Advantages: World beating conditions, terrain, and riders
Disadvantages: Expensive and crowded
...Before you hit me for going off-topic, I know this isn't a review as such, but It gives insight into the conditions and atmosphere which can be found in the resort and I hope these will effect peoples decision of where to ski - thus making it "on topic."
I had spent all of the previous season in Whistler, and had come back for three weeks (all I could spare) to visit friends and hit the slopes again. I got lucky with the snow, especially on the second weekend of my trip. It started snowing on the Saturday, and snowed all Saturday night. Sunday was a good day, but with flat light and snow flurries we rode through the trees for most of the day. Sunday night it was snowing when we left the pubs and still snowing when we woke up early next morning. A quick ring round at 6am flushed 4 of us out to the lifts for an "early bird" start...

How to stop a killer!
Advantages: A great story and lead actor
Disadvantages: None
...?I am The Whistler, and I know many things, for I walk by night. I know many strange tales, hidden in the hearts of men and women who have stepped into the shadows. Yes? I know the nameless terrors of which they dare not speak?
So began every episode of The Whistler radio series that ran for 13 years between 1942-1955. The Whistler never actually appeared in the series but narrated every story and sometimes commented, omnisciently, at the criminals expense.
Every episode consisted of some criminal act, normally committed by a regular joe, and how he/she was eventually caught, often caught out by some small thing they forgot about. The series was so popular it only took two years to get to the cinema screens in a series of B-movies.
The series as a whole was a strange one. The Whistler barely appeared, only seen in shadows and heard...

Best Little Town in British Columbia
Advantages: Charming, the pace is unhurried.
Disadvantages: I don't know?
...the summer too. If you enjoy mountain biking this is the place for you. Did you know that they run a lift in the summer that you can put your bike on, so you only have to pedal down the mountain. (You can pedal up if you really want to!)The lift is a great way to start a hike up the mountain and the scenery is breath taking. Don't mountain bike? They offer clinic to teach you. Still don't fancy it? There is other things to do, horseback riding, river rafting, kayak trips, helicopter tours, summer kids camps, and tons more!
And all this is at your back door.
All the people I met during my year in Canada were so friendly. And as an employee at the Resort I met tons of the locals, and tons of travellers. Fernie is a popular destination, but its not as busy as Whistler or Banff. And it has a very relaxing atmosphere. I WOULD RECOMMEND...

Whistler - Best ski resort I've been to.
Advantages: Friendly, informative, good snow, excellent skiing, cheap meals, quick moving queues
Disadvantages: long journey and price of flight, we had to get a bus to the lifts
...I started going out with my boyfriend in Whistler, so I may be slightly biased!
I went to Whistler a group of friends, we stayed in a chalet with a hot tub. This was my first time skiing out of Europe.
I have been to several ski resorts in Europe and to Vail in Colorado but none of them compare with Whistler.
There was fantastic snow, lovely light fluffy power and excellent off-piste and gladed routes, as well as fun parks, adding much more variety to the skiing.
The people were fantastic, not like France where every one seems to want to push in lift queues. All the people were really laid back and friendly on the lifts. There were plenty of piste maps about on the slopes, so no need to worry when you have a bit of a fall and your map gets buried in a drift. The lifties went out of their way to help you if you asked them...
