Great as pie
Review of Grandia (PSX) by
neophreaks
Advantages: loads
Disadvantages: none
...At heart this is a minimalistic role playing game that follows intervals of
relative tranquillity with moments of extreme danger. If you’re not a RPG loving
person then this isn’t your thing! Basically you run around talking to the wacky
inhabitants, buying items and exploring in the hazardous regions then you fight
something and explore some more! If you are a rpg lover like me you may not
enjoy this either the graphics look like there from 10 years ago, the game play
is poor, but you do have quite a good life span probably the only good bit of
the game. But in Grandia they have dispensed with the random combat from final
fantasy so now groups of monsters wander around the map seeking combat and if
your really skilful you can go around them avoiding combat this I think has been
a grate let down to the rpg family!!!...

Ace Combat 2 reviewed
Review of Ace Combat 2 (PSX) by
MikeScoates
Advantages: Intense full on action from start to finish
Disadvantages: Way to easy to complete in one sitting
...Love it or hate it, Ace Combat 2 is a flight shoot 'em up that offers intense action from start to finish. The only draw back is that you can reach the finish at the end of day one, so longevity is a serious fault with this game.
However, if you like the kind of game that has you gripping your controller till your knuckles turn white and sweat breaks out on your forehead as you try to get the HUD crosshairs to lock on to the AI controlled plane in front of you, this game has that kind of intensity to it that makes up for it's short game life.
Flight sim officionados and budding RAF members should by it, anyone else should really stay well clear....

Close Combat
Review of Close Combat (PC) by
dennissh
Advantages: Graphics
Disadvantages: None
...The great thing is doubtless, game of a genre WarGame in a real time! They use huge demand, in spite of the fact that the computer market is step-by-step saturated with similar toys. So, on the one hand Close Combat - wargame in a real time, with other - absolutely not similar to the customary game of this genre.
As contrasted to Iron Cross, battle units notably "have grown up", and from a not clear dump of pixels have turn intoed beautifully drawn, large enough units. In general, schedule in the game at the altitude. A nice enough landscape, miscellaneous terrains qualitatively drawn units. The note too is not bad, but is a little uniform - too the incessant notes of outrigger booms and screen of explosions are monotone.
Control in the game not so simple, but friend enough and laconic. Main, that all is balanced...

Best one so far
Review of Close Combat 3 (PC) by
Waz
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Command a fire brigade of soldiers on the Russian Front in this real-time strategy game set in World War II featuring unequalled detail, realism, and scope. Play as either the Soviets or Germans as you orchestrate your squads' attack, defense, and survival over four grueling years. Close Combat is a real time game that portrays platoon level tactical combat. The striking realistic setting only enhances the game play for players with a love for history. Once you've mastered the campaigns, try your luck against other players on the MSN Gaming Zone."If you want WWII real-time strategy,go with this. It has only a few errors (the casual gamer probably won't even notice, much less care), but it does a very good job overall. If you can get the Close Combat Trilogy bundle (CC1-3), BUY IT!! I found it cheaper than CC3 by itself."...

Tachyon - The Fringe
Review of Tachyon : The Fringe (PC) by
stantz
Advantages: Graphics
Disadvantages: Hard to find any
...Tachyon: The Fringe is fundamentally similar to other space-combat simulations, and as such it isn't well suited to anyone who won't accept it for capitalizing on the popular imagery of deep-space dogfights. However, fans of space sims will find that there's actually a lot to like about the game. It's not a sweeping space opera or a hard-core simulation of what it might be like to be an outer-space pilot - instead, Tachyon is a fast-paced, colorful, action-packed space combat game with a branching campaign and an enjoyable story, as well as a solid multiplayer mode....

Mortal Combat - A great boxset
Review of Mortal Kombat (Box Set) by
scottishWARRIOR22
Advantages: Great film and very well written
Disadvantages: none
...Mortal Combat is a great action/adventure film. Many of you have probably heard of Mortal Combat, either the film or the video game (based on the film).
Starring
Christopher Lambert - Lord Rayden
Robin Shou - Liu Kang
Linden Ashby - Johnny Cage
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa - Shang Tsung
Bridgette Wilson - Sonya Blade
Talisa Soto - Princess Kitana
Trevor Goddard - Kano
Mortal Combat is about 3 unknown martial artists, who are the best at what they do. Johhn Cage - A martial arts movie star (kinda like brad pitt meets jackie chan). Sonya Blade - A head strong police officer. Lui Kang - A pizza delivery boy from the big apple.
These 3 martial artist...

You have to test it
Review of Dead or Alive 3 (Xbox) by
Kimea
Advantages: Read my op ;o)
Disadvantages: Read my op ;o)
...Remained a long time in the shade of Street Fighter and other Tekken, the series of Dead Or Alive benefits from a very particular lighting thanks to this third shutter dedicated exclusively to Xbox. Be prevented, the creators of Tecmo literally released themselves in order to offer to us a play of combat except standard!
True graphic jewel, Dead Or Alive 3 fact not badly of shade to competition. With the menu of the festivities: 18 characters (including 4 news) modelled with a remarkable care, an animation nervous and shouting of truth, but especially of the arenas of combat of a beauty absolutely striking! Mystical temple, icy cave, autumnal forest, gigantic building....... all these environments enjoy tens of seizing graphic details (effect of heat, sheets which falls per hundreds, snowflakes fluttering per thousands, fog...

Great game with one major flaw
Review of Gothic 3 (PC) by
Pigfacespeaks
Advantages: Beautiful game with much to see and do
Disadvantages: Horiffic combat system which most hate but some get and learn to live with
...itself offers as much freedom as games like oblivion and are easily comparable in size.
Upon release the game was hugely buggy and felt more like a beta version, however Jowood, the company behind the game, fixed these issues in patches pretty quickly.
The combat part of the game is its downfall and eventually caused me to stop playing this otherwise great game, it is a very poor system and seems to rely on mashing the mouse button to succeed rather than use the games tactical combat moves and intelligent gameplay.
It is slow and akward for each combat move and frankly looks like you are constipated as you fight, I really wanted to continue with the game but just could not get used to or even vaguely enjoy the combat side of things, which is needless to say 60 percent of gameplay.
If you can live with the terrible combat system...

A brilliant wargame
Review of Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord (PC) by
Marcus_Arac
Advantages: Deep, Complex, Accurate
Disadvantages: Poor Presentation
...First impressions of the WW2 strategy game Combat Mission are not brilliant, the style is simplistic, and something you might expect from a shareware game. On delving deeper, however, there is a complex and remarkably addictive wargame to be found - replete with tracer fire, heavy artillery explosions and sounds of battle, creating a visceral experience so sorely missing from most wargames.
The graphics, whilst functional, are very dated - not unsurprising considering the age of the game now. However, it is unlikely someone interested in this kind of game is too bothered by such things. What /does/ matter, however, is the depth of thought put into the combat calculations, which takes such things as cover, armor thickness and slope, and other such minutiae into account. The innovative turn-system, in which both players issue orders...

Awesome, fluid combat system
Review of The Matrix: Path of Neo (PS2) by
bnmnmmb
Advantages: Most slick combat system i have ever seen
Disadvantages: Very addictive
...Out of all of the combat based games out there this has to be one of the best. It seamlessly combines hand to hand combat with gun toting action as you follow the path of the one throughout the three films. The game follows the story of the films well, with all of the iconic fight scenes included, as well as several extra parts which are set between the films.
The graphics are pretty good and the sound effects work really well, but what really makes this game so amazing is the fantastically slick combat. It is reletively easy to set up great combos which both look and feel awesome. The ability to zip in and out of 'focus' as it is called in the game or 'bullet time' as most people know it is a truely inspired idea as you can slow down time at will.
Another good feature is the selection of different enemies, each of which...
