...The Compaq Presario 700 series is one of their biggest selling "home" laptops, how do I know this I here you ask, well I worked for Compaq on their Presario Technical Support line. The 700's are a good laptop, if your new to the PC scene, but don't expect great things from them. They have an average spec for the price, but the build quality is not the best in the world. The software bundled with the 700's is fine for the majority of users (XP Home, MS Word, MS Works) amongst others. Although I would recommend ditching Works and getting a full version of Office as it offers much more flexibility. As I said earlier the spec is average, and fine for most beginners, however the quality of the components leaves a lot to be desired. ...Portable Photo studio, and as such covers three M series cameras in the range, the 415, 417 (extra 1x digital zoom, burst mode and 1.8" screen), and the 517 (8x digital zoom, 2" LCD). It's very concise and easy to read, and there's a handy index at the back so you can find the information you need quickly. It's comprehensive too, the contents run to 4 pages. With HP being an American company, there's none of those annoying Chinese/Japanese translation errors you usually find with digicams. A 64 page manual accompanies the bundled printer, and there's also a quick start guide, to have you snapping and printing in no time at all. ...These PCs may not be lightning fast but then they're not meant to be. Not to say they're slow just not as fast as the fastest available. Where they excel is support and ease of maintenance. I have had occasion to log fault calls with Dell, HP and Compaq for fault calls and Compaq win. People take ownership of problems there and you're not passed from pillar to post. Logging warranty calls is straight forward - you don't spend half the morning trying to persuade them what the problem is when he is only half way through page nineteen of his diagnosis script - Compaq are a bit better than that and seem to be capable of independant thought. In terms of design the EN is first class- everything slides together and you don't have to take everything else out to fit a drive. Even the motherboard is on rails - handy if the MD is breathing... ...on cheap A4 paper. Now I'm gutted! I went out and bought an Epson 700 Photo about a year or so ago, and the comparision between the two, well the Epson has 2 extra ink colours, so the skin tones should be better. They are not. The Epson takes much longer to print, an A4 picture can take upto 25 mins, where as the HP 930C can do the same picture in around 7mins. So, if you're printing a few pictures the time saved is alot! The downside to this printer (HP930C) is that the cartridges are expensive. The colour cartridge can cost between £20 - £28 and the black can cost about the same. But to justify this, when you change the cartridge you get a new print head, so therefore the print quality is the same as the day you bought it! Unlike Epson where if the heads get blocked, you're looking at a hefty bill! You can get non genuine cartridges... Read review

...in the past and it actually works pretty well (particularly if the alternative is to buy an expensive wide printer). I've not tried this yet with this printer but it's nice to have it handled directly by the driver. You can set the print quality and media type from a very wide range of stock. HP will tell you, naturally, that the drivers are optimised for their own paper stock but I always prefer to operate on a suck it and see. When I come across a reasonably priced alternative I try it on the various setting then compare with HP's own papers. If it's OK then I use it, if not I don't. I have found that there is a big difference in performance between suppliers and price is not necessarily the best guide. A final feature of the driver (that was also in previous generations, for example the 890 series) is automatic handling of manual duplexing... Read review

...This toner is designed for use with the HP Laserjet 1100 series printers. We have a number of these printers at the company I work for and so make use of these toners quite a lot. The toner is quoted as having a page life of 2,500 pages and retails at a price of around £40. The cartridge comes packaged in a large box with the toner type clearly labelled on the front, which is handy. The toner is secured within the box by two large cardboard holders and comes in package that closely resembles bin bag material! In Use This toner cartridge has been sensibly designed so as to make it a fairly easy process when removing an old toner and replacing with a new one. The toner itself slots into the printer, and so this means the old toner just needs to be removed from the holding slots in the toner bay and the new one put in its place... Read review
