...and the multiport on the lid surface contributes to its square and awkward shaped attributes. Saying that the battery life is very good at around 3 hours but I have noticed it diminish over the recent months. If I had paid over the £2000 RRP I would have been disappointed but picking it up cheap it has a very good specification which is actually aimed at a business professional. USB 2.0 was new at the time that this computer was released and the three shortcut buttons are also very useful just below the screen. I have never had any problems with this computer and the Radeon Graphics card is excellent combined with the 15" XGA screen. If you don't mind sacrificing weight for features and reliability then this is a great computer for you!... Read review

...HP's piano lacquer Pavilion design with subtle wave pattern, provides the laptop with a nice appearance and the silver keyboard deck looks sharp and sleek. The glossy black exterior however, is a fingerprint magnet, but HP provide a cleaning cloth to compensate for this. The only downside is that the mouse buttons are soft and squishy, not giving a firm 'click'. The 15.4-inch glossy widescreen is of the new, brighter variety, with better colour reproduction. The screen's 1280 x 800 pixel resolution makes for comfortable viewing on an LCD this size, however higher resolution would be preferred. Above the screen you'll find an integrated webcam, which at 640 x 480 pixels has a lower resolution than other models however does not work with Vista and HP have acknowledged this!!! ...After having used this laptop recently, I was impressed by the speed of the system with the 1GB Ram in Windows. The onboard (shared) video card is the Radeon Xpress 200M which is quite good for windows applications, and even modest gaming with share size set to 128Mb. The 100Gb Hard Disk drive is spacious, and well paired with the DVD-RW Drive. This Compaq has several USB 2.0 Ports, Firewire, Ethernet, Modem, Wireless and an inbuilt Multi-Card Reader. It comes preloaded with Windows XP Home, and is Vista Capable, meaning it will upgrade seamlessly to Vista when it is released. The 15.4 Inch Widescreen TFT is crisp and clear, and has a max resolution of 1200x800 enabling great widescreen DVD Playback. ...card is good enough to play games such as hl2, CS and WoW. Although I set the graphics to lowest for optimum performance. The computer also synced perfectly with my wireless router first time (Belkin high speed) with talktalk as my isp. One tip though, delete all the hp help crap that comes pre-installed on the computer, its all pretty useless.... Read review

...Yet anoter fantastic product from HP Hp is a global company that has been running for over 6 decades, so you know that when you buy a hp, you know what you are getting for your money. I have owned many HPs and been happy with many hp's and this is no exeption. The price is fantastic and it has very good specifications to match. The 15" screen is a perfect comprimise bettween view-ability and portability, the procsessor clocks at a quick 1.9 while having the advantage of being dual core. dual core meas it can handle multiple tasks quicker, ultimately speeding up the processing time of your pc. it has an acceptable 1gb of ram which means multiple programs will run fluently. It also has windows xp proffesional, many people thnk windows proffesional is still the best buisness o.s as it is often more simple than its Vista counterparts... Read review

...The HP nc 4000 notebook is highly mobile and has a very good battery life, with the battery lasting over 3 hours on one train journey. The notebook runs xp and office applications with easy and can cope with PowerPoint presentations, but lacks the speed for anyone who may want to play games on it. There are 2 USB ports on the nc 4000 which is not really enough when one is taken up by a flash drive, the there is only one left. so if you wish to use an external keyboard and mouse both of these usb ports will be used as there is no PS2 port to plug them in. The lack of a optical drive can sometimes be a problem as not all programs install easily over a network. There is only one speaker on the notebook which does not produce the best sound, and can only be disabled if the sound is muted, as the headphone port is a line out... Read review

Advantages: Fast for a Compaq laptop, not bad price, nice size hd
Disadvantages: bit ugly, not very light for carrying around, quite large

...Compaq may not make the most desirable looking laptops, and this most certainly isn't going to make you fall in love with it, but I do like this laptop which I got a while ago for only £700! with 1.4Ghz P4-M, quite fast for a Compaq laptop, and a nice graphics card (mine came with a 128mb radeon gfx card) games and applications run nice and fast on this laptop What drew me to this was the 30 gig hard drive also, a definate bonus for my work, especially at this price. The main problem I have found though is the bulk of the laptop. It is very wide and heavy, not the idea for carrying around. I would probably have not bought the laptop if I had known I was going to carry it around a lot. The laptop comes with the usual software packages, windows XP home ed., MS Office applications, Windows Media player etc. There were not many extras... Read review
