Got a Floppy Disk?

Advantages: Quick, Easy, Reliable, Small, Fits into any pocket or bag
Disadvantages: Faded out use lately

...floppy's - No driver needed for Win ME/XP and MAC Specification: ***************** Capacity: 1.44MB Media Type: Floppy Disk 3.5 Interface: USB Conclusion ************** If you're looking for an external floppy drive then I would definitely recommend this one. Simple, easy, small and quick which all anyone could ask for. What else could you want from a product like this? I have found it very useful since I bought it however I have found there is not such a need for them lately since CD's and DVD's are used much more and floppy disks have faded out of the picture more and more. Thanks for reading :)...

3M 1.44Mb Floppy Disks. Yes thats another one.

Advantages: Small and compact
Disadvantages: Breakable and horrible colour

...Hiya sorry about the boredom about these floppy disks first the imation 3 1/2" floppu disks and now its those pesky 3M's. Right i am sorry to say that my other batch of imation floppy disks have run out. So i phoned my supplier and i was informed by the lovely lady called charlie that they had run out. So she did suggest i try the new 3M pack of 10 floppies. Right onto the product in hand: These are the worst floppy disks i have ever purchased, the colour black is the worst ever but i must agree that floppies are the same as any other floppies. These floppy disks are not pre-formatted so you would need to format them yourself which is really time consuming, especially if you have a really important report due in the next day for the bank as i did. These floppies are not as good as the Imation series as all of these disks are...

Whats a 3 1/2" floppy?

Advantages: Colourful
Disadvantages: Break too easily

...I would call these Imation 1.44Mb floppies. I recently brought these from my local Argos store in Hastings as my office equipment supplier said that i place my order too late for next day delivery. I came across these floppy disks in my catalouge near to the PC pages and said that all of the other packs of floppy disks have the same amount of space which is currently 1.44Mb of storage but these ones have colour co-ordination to them and the others have not. I asked the lady at the help desk and she said that the only thing about these ones is that colour coded ones are easier to identify so you wont need to bother about looking at the label ever again. OK i said i will take those please, Only to find out when i got back to the office there were 2 of each colour: Blue, Red, Yellow, Green and Lime. a 10 pack in all. So when i got...

The disk of the 1980's!

Advantages: Compact
Disadvantages: Small 1.44MB storage space

...*UPDATE TO GET MORE VIEWERS 25/10/2005* NOTE THIS IS ABOUT ALL FLOPPY DISKS - NOT JUST THESE ONES Floppy disks are compact Floppy disks were good in the 1980's However floppy disks are not very useful unless you want to transport very small files Most, if not all floppy disks have a 'massive' 1.44MB storage space (1.37MB formatted) The speed of writing on the disk is ridiculous - taking up to a minute or more to transfer 1.37MB of files onto the disk, and the write enable tab can easily be removed or broken, as well as the metal protection cover can also easily be broken off. Reading from the disk is also slow taking many seconds to read any file, even a 20KB word document, and the data on the disks are likely to get corrupted. Floppy disks are very easily damaged and become unusable, even after formatting the disk...

Anyone For MF2HD

Advantages: I Get Them For Free
Disadvantages: Low Storage, Easily Lost

...of the 1.44MB floppy is still a long way off. Even though the amount of data storage they can store is limited and the fact that most computers controling machines on factory floors are connected to local area networks. the reason the floppy is still surviving is reliability, and that people trust them as a storage media. I have never had any problems with loosing data on a Maxell MF2HD floppy disk and that is the most important factor in choosing them next to the fact that I can get them for free from stores....

A dead storage medium, you could think.

Advantages: You can need it several times
Disadvantages: only a few spaces

...not very recommendable, because black is on black not so mad. Handing = The disks are very simple to use. One pushes it into the drive assembly, presupposed one has one, and marks the data, which one wants to copy. Now there are several possibilities the data to bring on the disk. 1. you click with the right mouse button to a marked file and click on sending on and then on floppy disk drive. Then the data are overacted on the disk. 2. You mark the data and open a second window, and draw the files into the floppy disk drive. 3. You mark again the desired data and press at the same time "Strg" and "C". Then you go into the floppy disk drive and press "Strg" and "V". Then the files are copyed again on the disk. The data are overacted very fast. For 1,4 MT one needs at the most 25 seconds. There goes thus completely...

Panasonic Floppy disk drive

Advantages: Very reliable
Disadvantages: none

...One of the best floppy disk drive makers in the business. I have never had any problems with this make of floppy disk drive since I have been using them. Have fitted this make of floppy disk drive in every machine I have built for my self and for my customers for around the last four years and don’t think I have had one returned to me that is not working. Have tried all the other makes of floppy disk drives and have had problems in one way or another with them some. The key to all good floppy disk drives is that the heads are regularly cleaned to keep them in good condition.....

88 Floppy Disks in one!

Advantages: Fast USB 2.0 connection, accessories, Compact, Looks COOL
Disadvantages: Requires a driver for Win98, Need updated USB 2.0 driver to use advanced features or your computer crashes, not all computers have USB

...You're copying a bunch of documents from your computer onto a 3.5" floppy disk. All is well, you see the sheets of paper flying across and the progress bar moving along nicely but then suddenly *BEEP*. A small window pops up saying your disk is full! A standard floppy diskette these days can only store 1.44MegaBytes (or 1,044KiloBytes) of data. Sometimes, it's not even enough for a single document these days, especially if there are pictures inside. Now imagine a disk that gives you 128MB of data. That's the same as 88.89 floppy diskettes! Yes, you've guess it (if you bothered guessing that is). The product I'm reviewing is a flash disk. Also known as pen drives, USB drives, flash drives, memory sticks, travelling disks, jump drives, etc. These are basically disks that plug into your computer via USB and act like a drive. Kind...

Review of PQI 128MB USB 2.0 Cool Drive Traveling Disk

simple, effective; but limited storage

Advantages: Small, effective, easy storage
Disadvantages: small capacity of storage

...3 1/2" floppy discs have been around for a long time. These discs have provided us all with simple and easy storage for a wide range of files still around today. Despite this, they only hold small amounts of storage compared to the different types of storage devices around. Floppy discs have provided lots of information at quick disposal for all types of computer. This ranges from the desktop pc on the market today, all the way to early computing machines such as the amega systems. Amongst these discs, Imation has provided fast access to a wide range of different files of information. There isn't a lot to write about on a floppy disc, but Imation discs are branded, and do have their own pro's and cons. Like most floppy discs, they hold 1.44 mb of storage. Discs have been known to hold as low as 720 kb and up to 2...

Floppy Drive 120Mb???

Advantages: Faster, greater capacity
Disadvantages: Not quite as cheap as traditional drives

...After many years of dealing with computers I must say very loudly TRADITIONAL FLOPPY DRIVES ARE DEAD! I did a couple of months ago purchase all the parts for a new PC witch I assembled myself and I must say that the experience I have had with floppy drives is that they are slow, unreliable and the traditional floppy disks are about the most fragile media you can get. I purchased one of these traditional 1.44Mb drives to begin with not thinking too much about it. It was a MITSUMI drive costing about £10. I took it home and put it in my new super fast pc and amazingly the little monster thing didn't appear to work... so I took it back and whilst I was at the store I noticed one of those newfangled LS120 drives from Panasonic and it stores a huge 120Mb on each of the new type of media and it is backwards compatible. So for £70 I took...
