Advantages: small form factor, cheap, fast, reliable, good support
Disadvantages: lack of space to upgrade

...that the upgrade options are limited. This is partially true. Memory can be upgraded to 2Gb at 400DDR (plenty for most people) and it is very unlikely the processor will need an upgrade in the next couple of years. The CR Drive can be chanded for a DVD-ROM, or a DVD Writer, or even a CDR or DVD/CDR combo. so pleany of choice there. Unfortunately, there is limited space of the inclusion of extra hard drives, or additional PCI Cards. However, this machine is not aimed at the upgrade market. It is squarely aimed at the small form factor market, and the machine exceeds all expectations. Unlike so many manufacturers who seem to beleive that small form factor machines must be "feature crippled". Compaq (or HP if you prefer) have proved that this is not the case. With the sleek styling and quiet operation, this machine would not look too out of place... Read review

Advantages: Ease of use,
Disadvantages: Heavy and a bit bulky, touch pad

...Here we have the compaq Presario 2143. At a first glance it is quite an attractive laptop, it isn't over fancy or ugly. It is simple and the colour scheme is easy on the eys. I do find that it is quite bulky though, it isn't the slimist of laptops as it measures: After frequent use the latch that holds the screen dwon becomes abit loose whcih isn't ideal but doesn't effect the screen. Mine has a 15" screen which is a good size, especially when watching movies or playing games. However, the compaq will struggle with high powered games. This could be due to the 64mb graphics card. Basic Spec: Processor: Celeron 2.6 GHz Operating System: Windows XP Home edition Hard drive cap. 40Gb RAM: 256 DDR. USB Ports: 3 No floppy drive (but in this day and age thats not that important!) It has a 40 gb hard drive and I am running windows ME on it which I love. It does have a 56 k modem or did. I now have a cable modem so it whizzes along even faster. ...Compaq is a very good place to buy all of your computer software and hardware.I frequently visit because I have never visited and found that they do not have what I am searching for but if they ever did I know they would have it in just a couple of days.This place is good for people of any age because it has everything from computer games to hard drives.There are plenty of Compaq retailers around so where ever you live you shouldn't have to travel far to get to a store.It is also a lot cheaper than most places even though it sells all the same quality goods.... ...A value for money laptop. Good 17" widescreen, loads of memory 2GB, Good hard drive size and I have the AMD 64 AthlonX2 processor. All this combined gives reasonable speed for the cash paid. I use mainly for home use ie internet, word documents etc and it copes easily. The speakers are a little weak but this is to be expected. The laptop is also quite light and therefore confortable while sitting on your knees. As a previously mentioned the camera can be dodgy at times but if you dont use this facility like me its not of great concern. Its also good to keep the system updated with the with the HP updates and the Microsoft Vista updates. This will ensure stability and the most up to date security and drivers.... Read review

...One thing HP Compaq are good at is making great laptops for business people. This clearly shows in this laptop as it incorporates everything a business man would need in a laptop. This laptop clearly isn’t the best looking laptop iv ever seen, but its not ugly. Its all in one colour, black, which in this case doesn’t make it look so horrible due to its nice square shape structure. There are so many things wrong with this design, yet somehow I do really like it. The installed ram on this laptop is an average 1 gb. This is ok but could have been dramatically improved if it was a 2gb of ram. The ram can however be upgraded, and it can be upgraded to a maximum of 4 gb so if this is something you think you could do your self then you could easily buy cheap ram off eBay and install it yourself, however if you don’t know... ...come along this should do just fine. There's no floppy disk drive, although there is a memory card reader at the front that will handle all common card formats. The recordable DVD drive will write + and -R/RW discs as well as dual layer DVD+Rs, while there is also a second DVD drive. The case looks very neat and its good to have many of the features accessable from the front. Software includes Windows XP Home, WinDVD SE, WinDVD Creator and HP Image Zone. I've used this PC together with the HP pavilion f1723 monitor with great success, and would advise you to consider it if you are looking for a new PC.... Read review
