Sleek computer with small footprint
Review of Compaq iPAQ Legacy-Light - PIII 733 MHz by
Uncle_Tippet
Advantages: Sleek, very light (10 lbs) machine. Customer Service good. Snap to install
Disadvantages: Few pre-installed applications. Only one drive bay. Caters to businesses
...COMPAQ Armada notebooks. But only one Multibay slot available.
- NO internal expansion slots available.
The computer
I bought the desktop direct from Compaq because they were offering the IPAQ running Win2000/NT4.0 with 128 meg RAM, Intel III 700 mHz chip with 20 gig hard drive, a 24X CD ROM drive, Ethernet card and a Flat Panel Display monitor for $799. With tax and S&H, the total cost came up to $830.
Given that the street price of the flat panel monitor is $400, the IPAQ deal I got was very compelling. Unfortunately, the offer is no longer available and the regular IPAQ price of $850 comes only with a standard 15 inch monitor.
The computer comes with legacy free and legacy versions. The legacy free desktop comes with 6 USB ports but no parallel or serial ports)while the legacy version comes with the traditional ports...

HP iPAQ 114 - A fine 'basic' PDA
Review of HP iPAQ 114 Classic Handheld by
apestyler
Advantages: Value for money, fast processor, stylus
Disadvantages: Weight (too light!), lots of pressure needed to use touch screen
...HP iPaq 114 Classic
Background
HP's iPAQ 114 Classic is amongst one of the newest models released by HP in its completely overhauled range. I am reviewing a model which sits in the 100 series.
What's in the box
The list below shows the contents of a HP iPAQ 114 Classic box as bought in the UK;
- HP iPAQ 114 PDA

The Compaq iPAQ H3850 - Not just a pretty face
Review of Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3850 by
ajmer
Advantages: Excellent colour screen and MS Windows compatibility
Disadvantages: Convergence of mobile phones and PDAs may render it obsolete. Need to back it up frequently.
...**Update made on 08/08/02 at end**
There’s no doubt that when it comes to looks the iPAQ H3850 is the classiest PDA available. Combine that with 64MB RAM and 32MB ROM, an excellent 65,536 colour screen (offering a resolution of 240 x 320), a headphone socket and microphone and an infra-red port and you soon realise that its beauty is not just skin deep (a full specifications listing can be found at http://www.compaq.co.uk/products/ipaq/pocketpc/h3850/specs.stm).
The 3800 series is the latest incarnation of Compaq’s iPAQ series of PDAs. The other model in the series is the H3870 - the only difference between the two is that the H3870 is Bluetooth enabled - which is great except that Bluetooth devices won’t be widespread for a while yet so the extra cost (about £60 on average) is hard to justify.
I picked one up a couple of weeks...

Must read - HP iPAQ Pocket PC Rz1710 explained
Review of HP iPAQ Pocket PC Rz1710 by
Flammable_Eye
Advantages: Cheap, small, productive and capabilities
Disadvantages: Lacks intergrated bluetooth and wi-fi
...This award-winning PDA or Palm top computer has a solid combination of productivity and small form factor. Hosting a SDIO slot, it is capable supporting SD/MMC standard type memory cards meaning you can use the memory card to hold up to 2GB of data, more then enough for hundreds of documents. You will always be on top of scheldule with the handy and well designed 'to-do' list and ensuring that the device is not just for work purposes, the device quite cleverly stores and plays music, videos and photos. For the more chatty amongst us, the HP iPAQ also comes with MSN Messanger.
At 70 x 13.4 x 114 mm and weighing only 120 grams, its thin and light enough to slip into the inside of a suit pocket quite comfortably. It features IrDA so if you have PC or Laptop which features IR, which a lot of laptops do, then transferring files suddenly...

Compaq ipaq 3870
Review of Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3870 by
swindellsk
Advantages: Great build quality. good range of accesories
Disadvantages: Battery life not great and battery built into unit
...as other small but useful utilities.
You can buy and download software from the internet including games, utilities and most other type of software that you may need.
You transfer the data between the ipaq and the pda via a usb or serial cable conection on the pc. The activesync software provided is easy to use and will transfer data between outlook and other programs automaticaly.
The good thing that HP/Compaq have done with their pda's is to make accesories that will work with their older pda's as well as the new models. This means there is plenty of goodies out there and if you upgrade in a year or two you don't need to replace all the accesories you bought for the old device.
I use a external keyboard and a sd slot jacket with my ipaq, this also includes another battery to extend the time between charges. I use a 1gb Ibm...

Hp iPAQ 4150
Review of HP iPAQ Pocket PC H4150 by
Mehosky
Advantages: Fast Small Full of features Reliable Bright screen
Disadvantages: Small internal memory 64MB isn't impressive anymore
...First Impressions...
Glad that it was as thin and nice as believed in pictures.
The dimensions are 4.47 by 2.78 by 0.5 inches (length x width x height) = Nice
The HP iPAQ 4150, in my opinion is quite frankly great. Two years of this PDA and it has been I have yet had. Runs games and applications like a knife through butter. Smoother than anything i have very had (quite a few.)

HP iPAQ RX3118 Pocket PC
Review of HP IPAQ RX3115 by
almarsden
Advantages: Very small and compact, huge amount of software available
Disadvantages: Might be too small for people with big fingers
...My review is based on the HP Ipaq RX3118
Deciding to buy
A couple of years ago, I decided that I needed a PDA to help me organise things and also wanted to buy a satnav but at the time the "TomToms" were quite expensive.
I decided the rough specification that I wanted out of the PDA and that I needed WIFI and Bluetooth, as well as it being Windows based. After much searching through the internet I stumbled across the HP IPAQ RX3115 on the handtec website.
It had exactly what I wanted, WIFI, Bluetooth, Pocket Windows 2003, enough ram and a fairly quick processor, the unit also appeared quite compact and had decent battery life. So there it was £179.99, after a few moments of umming and arring I ordered it.
The unit arrives
Surprisingly it arrived the very next day, I couldn't wait to open it! I got the unit out...

HP iPAQ Pocket PC Hx4700
Review of HP iPAQ Pocket PC Hx4700 by
davwan
Advantages: Great screen, all the connectivity you could possible need
Disadvantages: Looks and size
...I have been a fan of the Ipaq since the days of the old Compaq 3600 (way back in the summer of 99!).
Since then I have had the Ipaq 5500 (the finger print reader) and now onto my third the new HX4700 (the one with the track pad!).
Being familiar with the Ipaq's of old, the first thing I noticed when I unpacked the box was how thin the new Ipaq was, very thin, when compared to my old 5500. The looks though may not be to everyone's tastes, but it does the job.
I have noticed though that HP seem to be getting more and more stingy on the "included" accessories. No more slip on case, spare pens nothing! With the 4700 all you get is the one stylus, a docking cradle and a plastic flap/cover for the screen.
Hmmmm not looking too good so far then.
Once charged - and this was quick about 3hrs! I powered up and immediately saq where...

HP iPAQ 2210 - 4 months old
Review of HP iPAQ Pocket PC H2210 by
AdrianRutter
Advantages: Flexibility and expansion
Disadvantages: Side grips are a nightmare if you squeeze the unit.
...I got this little beauty primarily to use for work, which it does superbly thanks to the multitude of connection options available with it. (Bluetooth, Infra red and USB.)
Originally I was trying to decide between the Dell Axim X5 and the 2210, but the flexible build on this unit, the slender lines and the fact that HP / Compaq have been making these much longer than Dell, eventually persuaded me to go iPAQ.
The display is bright in most conditions and the sound is good from the built in speaker and excellent through headphones.
The iPAQ 2210 comes with 64Mb RAM and 32Mb ROM, as opposed to the 64/48 configuration of the Dell Axim X5.
This means that if power is lost for any length of time, files saves to RAM are lost. Howeve ROM memory remains. The iPAQ 2210 gets a 4-5Mb ROM filestore, as the rest is given over to the operating...

HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2210
Review of HP iPAQ Pocket PC H2210 by
george.holder
Advantages: Does the job extremley well
Disadvantages: Memory not the best on the market
...The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 is perhaps on of the best pockect pc's on the market its fast reliable and does the job well, whether you want it for work or just for its movie and music playing capabilitys this is the one for you.
The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 is now reasnobly cheap for a PDA and has exellent programs for work purposes like pocket word and exel plus many more and others wich can be brought separately. The graphics are outstanding with just about no faults.
This is backed up by a processor speed of 400Mhz wich is fast compared to others on the market, but isnt fast enough to download music files or movies from the internet. this brings me on to my next point, the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 can conect to the internet via the normal method, dial up/ broad band or by certain mobile phones, im afraid i dont know how this works...
