**Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3950**

Advantages: Great Transflective Screen and amazingly fast processor
Disadvantages: Over priced

...º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤ºHP iPAQ Pocket PC H3950 º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`° This is a great handheld pocket PC and what's more, you can carry it around with you wherever you go. Just think of all of the things you can do with a compact computer at the palm of your hands. Write documents and notes when you need to, particularly great when organising your life to put it simpler. I mean, it's far better then a diary because if you're anything like me, you probably end up misplacing your diary and I wouldn't dare think of losing my pocket PC. You can easily access the internet from wherever you are, if you need to look up tube/train times at last minute, you can. If you perhaps want to just research something at a particular moment for example in a pub quiz - I'm not saying you should cheat at pub quizzes or anything - well they're easy anyway...

Compaq ipaq 3870

Advantages: Great build quality. good range of accesories
Disadvantages: Battery life not great and battery built into unit

...I have had my ipaq since early august. The pda has proved to be reliable and very useful. I use it on a daily basis and have yet to find any real problems. The ipaq has one of the best screens of any pda and has 64mb of memory. You get pocket pc versions of most of the usual microsoft programs. Beware that you know that these are not the same as the microsoft aplications on the pc. They are cut down versions and although you can exchange data between the pda and the pc don't expect that the documents will keep the same formating if you transfer one written in Microsoft office. This is due to the limitations of memory in the pda. (This is the same for all pda's not just the ipaqs) The aplications you get include: Outlook: email, address book, tasks ect. Word: word prescessing. Exel: spread sheet. Internet explorer. as well as...

My slim pocket mate

Advantages: Lots of features
Disadvantages: Cost

...My Compaq iPAQ (Model 3760) is slim line and robust and provides truly portable access to most of the features in Outlook, including diary information, contacts, task management and off-line e-mail facilities. You can also read, compose and edit Word and Excel documents when you ar out and about. When you return o your office or workstation you can makeadditions, deletions or amendments to any or all of the above as the iPAQ can automatically synchronise with your home or office desktop. Before deciding to purchase the iPAQ I looked at three main options:- 1)PDA's based upon PalmOS, the palm pilot operating system, 2) PDA's based upon the Microsoft Pocket PC operating system and 3) PDA's from Psion. I discounted the Psion option as the company has announced its withdrawal from the PDA market to concentrate on other core products. I...

The Compaq iPAQ H3850 - Not just a pretty face

Advantages: Excellent colour screen and MS Windows compatibility
Disadvantages: Convergence of mobile phones and PDAs may render it obsolete. Need to back it up frequently.

...**Update made on 08/08/02 at end** There?s no doubt that when it comes to looks the iPAQ H3850 is the classiest PDA available. Combine that with 64MB RAM and 32MB ROM, an excellent 65,536 colour screen (offering a resolution of 240 x 320), a headphone socket and microphone and an infra-red port and you soon realise that its beauty is not just skin deep (a full specifications listing can be found at http://www.compaq.co.uk/products/ipaq/pocketpc/h3850/specs.stm). The 3800 series is the latest incarnation of Compaq?s iPAQ series of PDAs. The other model in the series is the H3870 - the only difference between the two is that the H3870 is Bluetooth enabled - which is great except that Bluetooth devices won?t be widespread for a while yet so the extra cost (about £60 on average) is hard to justify. I picked one up a couple of weeks...

Must read - HP iPAQ Pocket PC Rz1710 explained

Advantages: Cheap, small, productive and capabilities
Disadvantages: Lacks intergrated bluetooth and wi-fi

...This award-winning PDA or Palm top computer has a solid combination of productivity and small form factor. Hosting a SDIO slot, it is capable supporting SD/MMC standard type memory cards meaning you can use the memory card to hold up to 2GB of data, more then enough for hundreds of documents. You will always be on top of scheldule with the handy and well designed 'to-do' list and ensuring that the device is not just for work purposes, the device quite cleverly stores and plays music, videos and photos. For the more chatty amongst us, the HP iPAQ also comes with MSN Messanger. At 70 x 13.4 x 114 mm and weighing only 120 grams, its thin and light enough to slip into the inside of a suit pocket quite comfortably. It features IrDA so if you have PC or Laptop which features IR, which a lot of laptops do, then transferring files suddenly...

Ipaq, Pocket your Pocket PC

Advantages: small, light weight, cheap
Disadvantages: no bluetooth, small memory

...on your main computer, install it as if you were installing it for your desktop/laptop PC and your computer will do the rest provided your H1910 is connect via the data cable. I havent had any problems with this as yet, it's easy to use and very fast for what it is, i'd recommend this if you want a PDA to get started with if not a newer one would suit you better because of the more advanced features, BlueTooth and bigger memory. Hp ipaq points are a good plus....

IPAQ SchmIPAQ

Advantages: big enough too see off a serious mugger
Disadvantages: heavy enough to prevent escape from a serious mugger

...OK ? here goes... I have, arrayed in front of me, a Palm V and a Compaq IPAQ 3850. I am crying quietly. Why? Because having been quite content with my Palm V for several years I recently convinced myself that I needed an IPAQ. What a prat. To exacerbate matters, I didn't just settle for a basic unit. Oh no, I had to go the whole hog and get the SatNav jacket and all the full nine yards didn't I? After a brief (and I MEAN brief) honeymoon with the thing I have come to the conclusion that the IPAQ is twice the price, twice the size, twice the weight, twice as bug-ridden and has half the battery life of the Palm. As if that wasn't enough, it has an operating system which, like its big brother Windows, needs to have a lie down every now and again. To accuse it of being underdeveloped would be to do an injustice to underdeveloped...

HP iPAQ Pocket PC Hx4700

Advantages: Great screen, all the connectivity you could possible need
Disadvantages: Looks and size

...I have been a fan of the Ipaq since the days of the old Compaq 3600 (way back in the summer of 99!). Since then I have had the Ipaq 5500 (the finger print reader) and now onto my third the new HX4700 (the one with the track pad!). Being familiar with the Ipaq's of old, the first thing I noticed when I unpacked the box was how thin the new Ipaq was, very thin, when compared to my old 5500. The looks though may not be to everyone's tastes, but it does the job. I have noticed though that HP seem to be getting more and more stingy on the "included" accessories. No more slip on case, spare pens nothing! With the 4700 all you get is the one stylus, a docking cradle and a plastic flap/cover for the screen. Hmmmm not looking too good so far then. Once charged - and this was quick about 3hrs! I powered up and immediately saq where...

iPAQ PocketPC Now goes 2002

Advantages: Compact, Great Screen
Disadvantages: Not enough memory, No CF Slot

...I bought this about a month ago and it keeps me organised at home and work. Integration into outlook and the ability to read word documents helps me so I can catch up on emails when things get busy at work. A lot of additional software can also be downloaded from the Internet and installed onto the iPAQ via your PC. I use www.pocketgear.com to look for games etc. There are two areas that you need to get used to on this device. Firstly the handwriting recognition, take time to practice and make sure you read the instructions on where to write the characters as it makes a big difference. The screen is small so some documents that look great on your PC will be difficult to navigate on the iPAQ. If you buy an iPAQ PocketPC now you will get a free upgrade to the new super PocketPC 2002. It makes the iPAQ even better than it already...

The IPAQ Exposed - Updated

Advantages: Data Connection with Orange
Disadvantages: price tag

...for a keyboard with ease. the keyboard itself has many options and you can fine tune the way it works. - Great Peripherals ----------- Compaq do a good range of peripherals like memory expansion and modems but they are far too expensive so I have not trialed any. Overall ---------- The IPAQ steaals a march over the opposition with good looks and a very wide range of additonal features which are easy to use and work well in conjunction with the desktop PC. I would say that the IPAQ is for the person who requires easy to use diary/organisation applications and remote access. If you are looking just for the Organiser features without remote access then any of the Palm products would be better and cheaper....
