Compaq SR2125UK

Advantages: Very Upgradable, Cheaply Priced, Very Reliable.
Disadvantages: The nVidia 7500LE is by no means an efficent card, No front case fan.

...I have found the Compaq SR2125UK a very powerful machine, I bought it as a secondary machine from PCWorld back in May 2007. When I first bought it I didn't realise it's full potential of what it's very upgradable motherboard can have. It's processor which comes shipped with it is an Intel Pentium D 915 which is around one of the first Dual Core processors around and is now starting to age a little, but this machine will happily take any Intel Core 2 Duo's. It'll also take up to 4GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM and any PCIe x16 graphic card (with a PSU upgrade). Powerful Media PC great value

Advantages: very powerful entertainment PC with great media experience
Disadvantages: doesnt include with tv card

...The 'Compaq Presario Media Center SR2019UK' PC is a great buy. It is powerful enough to display all the media you could want and with XP media centre, you can access your music, video, radio and tv while laying back. The 7.1 surround sound has great quality and the software offers many options to tweak your sound. The DVD Writer drive allows you to burn your media quikly from either the media centre user interface, or from various other included softwares. If you use other devices that use memory cards, theres no need to use cables, just slot the cards into the memory card readeer in the front panel. The only critisism is that the power of 2,2 Ghz is by far not the most powerful available today, and sometimes when using many programmes the pc can be slightly slugish but aslong as programmes aren't left running while not in use...

My good old Compaq Presario 2200

...I am the proud owner of a Presario 2200. I purchased it six years ago for a price of PDS600.00. Mine is totally black in colour including the monitor and keyboard and equipped with a Cyrix 166 Processor, 16 MB RAM and 1.2 GB Hard Drive. About a year ago I increased the RAM to 32 MB and the Hard Drive to 2 GB. Many a time I thought of changing this machine for a new one with more specicifications and higher performance levels. However one of my friends is a computer technician and he advised me then that these older models are by far better than the ones out today. Not in specs but in durability. They don't make them now like they used to make them. All makers including Compaq are trying to cut corners with the stiff competition nowadays. Parts are being made more and more in China, Malaysia and other third world countries...

Media Center without an XBOX

Advantages: The media center interface, decent codec support, HD movies stream really well.
Disadvantages: The DVD player is terrible.

...Okay, the big pull of this DVD player is the built in Media Center Extender software, which once set up runs really well. You need to have vista installed on a PC (which needs to be on for it to work) and you also need a good network connection between the two. I have tried both a 200mbps powerline ethernet network and a wireless N network and for me the wireless network performed better for HD movies, but this will differ for most people so just make sure you arn't relying on a bog standard 54mbps wifi connection. The built in DVD play is poor to say the least, it doesn't scale DVD's out to widescreen it simply takes the DVD's basic resolution and outputs it to the middle of the screen. I tried watching an old cracker and had to stop as it was displayed as a 640x480 picture in the middle of my 720p HDTV, believe me this looks...
