...I had been umming and aahing about buying a CD-RW for some time and I finally settled on the HP 9150i, mainly because of the very reasonable price, but also because it seemed a lot easier to fit and install than a SCSI model. HP really couldn't have made it easier. They provide a CD which not only plays you a video to follow, but also checks your computer to tell you what jumper settings and IDE cable to use for the best results. Whilst looking into different CD-RWs, I was told time and time again that the software for copying CDs was as important as the hardware itself. The HP 9150i's software is very intuitive to use with excellent results when both copying a whole CD and making a compilation fom many CDs. There is a update which is downloadable from the web (5MB, so do it at the weekend!) which adds a few more features... Read review

...would go far a Hewlett Packard Drive. Now this is another important decision, external drives require some kind of connection to the back of your PC. Now the 2 most common are, USB and SCSI. USB, (Universal Serial Bus) is new fairly new technology for connecting multiple devices to your PC, The theory is, that you plug in the device (can be anything from a keyboard, mouse to speakers, printers and even CD Writers!), and then your computer will set it up for, you, asking for any supplied disks, and then your ready to go, without restarting your PC. USB limits a speed of about 600 kb/sec. If you don’t understand, it basically means, that the fastest time you could write your CD is around 20 minutes, for a whole disk. Although some jobs may take you only a couple of minutes. Now SCSI is much faster, it can achieve speeds that match... Read review

...Have only been using this drive for 3-4 weeks but it has proved invaluable. The 12GB native capacity is more than adequate for most data backup needs. I, personally, backup data files rather than system files which uses much less storage. System backups are not the most reliable and inevitably need a re-install anyway. The drive is, generally, very quiet although it does occassionally make a nasty rattling, from the tape itself, when winding/rewinding halts. Speed of backup is acceptable I normally backup about 2GB is less than an hour. I have not had occasion to restore files yet but do not anticipate any problems. The HP SureStore is a well-established and well-respected brand. The 4mm DDS tapes are very compact and easy to store and label, allowing simple library organisation. ...I bought an HP 9150i CDRW drive last October, which is an 8x/4x/32x EIDE internal drive, having previously had a very reliable Yamaha 426e (4x/2x/6x external SCSI Drive). The installation was so easy you would hardly believe it. First of all the CD includes a step by step video to see how to do things so that makes it perfect for anyone, regardless of whether they have ever installed anything in their live. It produces a tailor made set-up and gives you a print out of what settings you require (i.e. Jumper switch setting, which cable to use etc...) making the whole process incredibly easy. The software package is very good, and has the latest version of DirectCD, a proprietary CDR Creation Wizard as well as a labelling program making it a complete solution. ...I bought this product second hand, and found it to be very satisfactory. The laptop had lasted very well, and was in excellent condition (i.e. the build quality was good). It is a very stable machine as well, and the hardware support from HP is excellent. My only gripe with this laptop is the connection for the external CD drive, which has a flimsy cover over its port. The double mouse is very good and the screen is excellent quality. I would definitely buy one of these again if not another HP laptop.... Read review

.... Either cartridge can be replaced individually, saving expense if for example you do a lot of B&W printing. It has an external power supply to keep the size down, it is a relatively compact printer for its age. PAPER Paper is stored in a 100 sheet feeder tray at the front, and output is also stored at the front. Paper can be plain copier, no special inkjet paper is required although photo images are only worthwhile on special papers. RESOLUTION Resolution is a measly 600dpi x 600dpi, but due to incorporation of HP / Kodak Photo Resolution Enhancement technology II (PhotoREt II) which delivers smaller ink drops and more colour shades photo quality is surprisingly good. Also assisting in raising photo quality are the software drivers, HP ColorSmart II, which ensures good colour reproduction by automatically adjusting colour settings... Read review
