If you want a fast portable laptop then this is great, it will cost around £600 though which is quite expensive for a laptop that only has 80gb of hard drive and just 1gb of ram. The advantage to buy new laptop at this time, is that you'll be able to upgrade to new Windows Vista which will be available broadly January 30, 2007. So if you get a new laptop between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007 you will be able to uprade for free to Windows Vista. I have already order it from HP site. It's really easy to do and the only fees you have to pay are packaging and delivery (which is around 12£). General & Extras The laptop itself is great. Compact, light enough to carry around and powerfull too. A 14.1 inch widescreen display that is HD ready and features HP BrightView technology makes watching films thrilling. ...thing i noticed when i opened the box was the size of the laptop it is quite and quite heavy, It came preloaded with windows vista basic edition all i needed to do was enter what username i wanted. The main things th HP have done wrong is they have only put 512 DDR2 in to this laptop and i think that this is not enough for windows vista to run smoothly,would be ok for Windows Xp .After a few days i upgraded the memory of the laptop to 2gb ddr2 this is very easy and was cheap only £30. After i did this the laptop was perfect. The touch pad is made from the same plastic the case and i think it is very good.The Graphics are Intel GMA 950 with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 will handles videos ok but will not be enough for games.The wireless on the laptop works about 80metres away from my router which is excellent range i would say... ...Here we have the compaq Presario 2143. At a first glance it is quite an attractive laptop, it isn't over fancy or ugly. It is simple and the colour scheme is easy on the eys. I do find that it is quite bulky though, it isn't the slimist of laptops as it measures: After frequent use the latch that holds the screen dwon becomes abit loose whcih isn't ideal but doesn't effect the screen. Mine has a 15" screen which is a good size, especially when watching movies or playing games. However, the compaq will struggle with high powered games. This could be due to the 64mb graphics card. Basic Spec: Processor: Celeron 2.6 GHz Operating System: Windows XP Home edition Hard drive cap. 40Gb RAM: 256 DDR. USB Ports: 3 No floppy drive (but in this day and age thats not that important!) ...anything standing next to it. The combination of the P4 processor and a very average battery means you only have about 2hrs 30mins before you require mains power. All in all its an attractive laptop and pretty decent for everyday use. I wanted to network it to my home PC but whatever I did, I couldn't get it work. Having a look around the internet I found a few people with similar problems. Other than that it is a lovely machine. Nice sized screen (15inches), I don't think you should go below 15inches for a laptop screen. It's not the lightest but normally any travelling it does is in my car so I'm not too fussed. Now I know that ill never need more than 160 gb and iv never even really needed more than 100gb’s before, so I doubt that anyone will really need more storage space than this. Its screen is average size too, it’s a 15.4 inch TFT screen which is about the average size. However most business laptops have smaller screens that this so that they are more portable because they would be smaller, and also they would be lighter and have more battery life. This laptop actually weighs 2.7 kg though, which isn’t really heavy, but is a lot heavier than most business laptops are. that’s why this laptops probably best to be used as a replacement desktop and is just as fast as one too.
