Advantages: Reliable, stylish, excellent connectivity
Disadvantages: More RAM would improve performance, as would a dedicated graphics card

...- best of both - beautiful. A major advantage is that all the ports are on the two sides of the computer - there are NO ports on the back which is makes life a lot easier actually. BATTERY LIFE: Really important if you are going to use it on the move - this computer has a reasonable battery life - I believe that 3hrs is stated - I know that I have had very close to this in the past. SUPPORT: HP (which is actually the producer of COMPAQ) has an excellent website which offers support via email and also upgrades of software - great. The NEGATIVES: (1) Processor is good for most things - but could be faster - if purchasing now - a dual core processor of the same speed would work significantly better. (2) It needs more RAM: 512MB is Ok, but 1GB + is ideal - especially if you plan to upgrade to windows vista in the near future...

Disadvantages: Surface smudgy - very hard to keep clean,

...The only downfall of a superb machine is the material used to form the main body. The body is made of a shiny plastic material. This is a poor decision made by Compaq as this material is easily dirtied and smudged. Although an annoying and persistent problem, it can be easily rectified by cleaning the whole body with spectacle lens cleaning wipes a few times a month. The battery can last for about 2 hours on full power and 5-10 on 'Power Saver' mode. Energy consumption can be regulated by the user and new power regulating plans can be created. The V6000 is truly one of the best laptops on the market - allowing the user to use just about any program in any location....

...The Compaq V55 is an ideal monitor; it was an important part of our receptionists life for a good 5 years but after recently replacing it with a TFT, I decided it was only fair we rewarded it by giving it a good write up on ciao. --------- PRICE --------- It was back in 1997, in which our comapany first purchased this monitor. We had a dell base unit which was perfect for the general office work of the receptionist; now all we needed was a nice monitor to go with it. At £129.99 it was not badly priced at all, in fact its probably worth that today. It seemed a bargain; despite it being compaqs lowest in their range, it would be all that was needed for the day to day chores of our receptionist. The prices of these monitors will have come down considerably since then, brand new your probably looking at under £60, a bargain...

...Compaq may not make the most desirable looking laptops, and this most certainly isn't going to make you fall in love with it, but I do like this laptop which I got a while ago for only £700! with 1.4Ghz P4-M, quite fast for a Compaq laptop, and a nice graphics card (mine came with a 128mb radeon gfx card) games and applications run nice and fast on this laptop What drew me to this was the 30 gig hard drive also, a definate bonus for my work, especially at this price. The main problem I have found though is the bulk of the laptop. It is very wide and heavy, not the idea for carrying around. I would probably have not bought the laptop if I had known I was going to carry it around a lot. Compaq Presario V4000 - not a beauty contest winner

Advantages: Good value for money (decent specs at a strong price) and good after-sales support
Disadvantages: Bad-looking, unreliable at times

...I guess it is safe to say the design will never win any awards. It looks chunky and the color combination (all silver inside and matt black on the outside) doesn't look very appealing. The buttons on the touch-pad feel rubbery and offer a good touch, but it attracts dirt, is nearly impossible to clean. Ditto for the silver finish too...starts to rub off after a few months and ends looking ancient. The specs are decent and well worth the price - but my personal experience with all hp/compaq products (I've had 3 hp/compaq laptops to date) is that they all have a problem with the motherboard. Not sure if this is a generic problem with all hp/compaq products...or maybe I'm just plain unlucky. Of course, their after-sales support is quite good, but it doesn't feel nice taking a barely-three-months-old laptop for repair. Better to spend...

...Compaq Presario 724EA I bought this Notebook when I lived in Belgium. It originally came in French but a quick telephone call to the Compaq customer services and they sent me the Rescue CDs in English. I paid about 1000 euros (which was about £700 at the time) for it 3 years ago. The speed of the Compaq Presario 724EA is 1.2 GHz and it's AMD Duron, which made it unbelievable fast 3 years ago and still is about the same as the PC I use now. The notebook is 31.5 cm x 26.9 cm x 4.2 cm in dimension and weighs about 3 kilograms. It's black with a silver edging and it has the emblem COMPAQ in the middle of the laptop case. It came with MS Windows XP Home edition (French and English) and Norton Anti Virus 2001 (French and English), which isn't really a big assortment but I didn't mind as I still had a lot of software from my dad...
