Beautiful little hotel

...I booked a standard double room in the Ca' Dei Conti hotel (on expedia) for 3 nights in early January 2008, as a romantic break for my boyfriend and I. We fell in love with the place!. The hotel is incredibly easy to find by public water bus, you just get off at the San Zaccaria stop and follow the directions given on the hotel website. It's situated only a few minutes walk from St. Marks Square, but is incredibly quiet and secluded, so there is no noise or disturbances. The hotel itself is incredibly beautiful, as you walk over the little private bridge and enter into the hotel lobby, you're struck by just how beautiful this little hotel is. Checking in is very easy and the staff are friendly and speak fluent English. You are also given a map of Venice on arrival and the receptionist will circle all the main points of interest...

Lock Up

Advantages: One of Stallone's "Better" Performances, The Score, Cast, Brutal Action
Disadvantages: Predictable, Unrealistic

...somewhere between Rambo III and Rocky V. Even hardcore Stallone fans rarely give the movie the light of day these days, even though it ranks considerably higher than turkeys such as Judge Dredd, or D-Tox. Lock Up is hardly impressive, but is perhaps Stallone's most liberal movie, and a test of his character's spirit. Of course, with it being Sly, the audience is always aware that he will prevail, but a sadistic fascination with brutality and an admiration for Stallone's own humaneness is what keeps us rooting for the character throughout. Other notable features of the movie include Bill Conti's brilliant score; the car shop montage; and the supporting cast made up of a young (and thin) Tom Sizemore, John Amos (Lisa's dad in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air), and Sonny Landham as Chink Weber (Billy from Predator). ...Alan Ayckbourn is probably one of the greatest comedic playwrights of his generation. His plays are extremely well-executed looks at the frailties and foibles of everyday life and of "ordinary" people. The Norman Conquests (staring Tom Conti as Norman) was made by Thames Television. It is a series of individual plays that cover the weekend of a weekend at a house in the country. The play are entitled Table Manners, Living Together, and Round and Round the Table. The audience is allowed to eavesdrop on a series of happenings and events that all involve the characters who are living at or staying at the house over the weekend. The events start at about 5.30 on the Saturday afternoon and continue through until a little after 9 on Monday morning. Each play is complete of itself, but you would miss the joy of watching everything...

Lightweight and exciting rides

...The conti Cross Country tire comes in a couple of sizes the 1.5 & 2.0 widths. The 1.5 with Kevlar bead is something a bit different than a more normal tire. It is very light weight - just under 400 grams. Compare this to the more usual 550 - 650 grams and it is a saving of over a pound. This is rotating weight as well which doubly increases the benefit. The width is narrower than anything else on the market and gives an interesting ride. In mud the tire is fantastic as it is so narrow it cuts through and gets grip on the harder surface below. Many times you can keep riding without wheelspin when a broader tire is slipping all over. On thicker mud or grass though it is a bit worse as the narrowness causes the tire to dig in too much & drag the bike back. On downhills or single track there can be a scary lack of grip! Review of A Prayer For The Dying (DVD)

Divine retribution?

Advantages: Well-paced thriller
Disadvantages: Some will find the twist a bit too obvious

...the rape are particularly good. Vincent Cassel gave a good performance as LaRoche - at least, I was impressed by the change from pleasant guy to psychopath. He did make a good villain, although it was nothing to get overly excited about. I also enjoyed seeing Tom Conti, who played Charles' boss - it was a shame he didn't have more of a chance to shine - it's been a while since I've seen him in anything. I have read a lot of criticism of this film - the main reason being that the twist in the tale is too obvious. Maybe I'm stupid, but I didn't see it coming (luckily none of the reviews I read gave the twist away!). In hindsight, I probably could have worked it out - certainly now I've seen it, it does seem obvious. Nevertheless, I liked the twist - it may not be original, but it certainly made me sit up and take note and without it...
