Copenhagen
Advantages: Relaxed and lovely
Disadvantages: Expensive and not a huge amount to do
...Copenhagen
To celebrate a recent birthday (I forget the exact number) my wife treated me to a weekend away. I say treated me but we actually cashed in ten years worth of MY hard earned Airmiles and she paid the balance, but it's the thought that counts. We had intended to visit Vienna but upon realising that our visit would coincide with the semi finals of the Euro 2008 tournament - you know, the one we didn't qualify for - we decided that rather than share a romantic weekend away (sans children) with two hundred and fifty thousand tanked up footie fans (half of whom would be mightily annoyed by the end of the day) we would look elsewhere.
It didn't take a whole lot of thought to come up with our next choice: Copenhagen. To be honest I'd be hard pushed to think of things to see and do in Copenhagen off the top of my head; Tivoli...

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Advantages: Lots to do, easy to navigate, friendly people
Disadvantages: Very Expensive
... COPENHAGEN
My family and I had a lovely midweek winter break in Copenhagen, although there were a couple of hiccups (none the fault of Copenhagen itself) that I will come to later.
Copenhagen is both the largest city and capital of Denmark, a small country of 5.2 million people.Greater Copenhagen has a population of about 1.5 million people. The city is located on the island of Sealand (Zeeland) just across the Oresund Straight from Malmo, Sweden. A new bridge/tunnel was = completed in July 2000 linking those two countries.
It is the largest city in Scandinavia and is also the seat of Denmark's 179 member parliament (the Folketing).
Before I went to Copenhagen all I really knew about it was through the fairy stories of Hans Christian Anderson, I was very much looking forward to finding out much more.
We booked our...

Christiania - Copenhagen
Advantages: Interesting history
Disadvantages: Struggling to find an identity in the 21st Century
...Christiania - Copenhagen
Set in the heart of Copenhagen, Christiania is a very interesting place. Perhaps more interesting to read about than visit it is still worth dropping by just to get a feel for the place.
Reading the guidebooks prior to our trip to Copenhagen I got the impression it was a small, free thinking, hippy part of town. The kind of place that is full of handicraft workshops, organic cafes and eclectic displays of body piercing. Quaintly declaring itself apart from the rest of the country I thought it might be something a bit like Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod perhaps. The truth is very different, however, and Christiania's short and bloody history makes for strange reading
History ~
Up until the late 1960's when it was decommissioned the site of Christiania was a military barracks. Having lain derelict...

Phoenix hotel, Copenhagen
Advantages: 4 star luxary, excellent breakfest, cheap deals if booked early
Disadvantages: smallish sized room
...So here we are traveling the globe and the Scandinavian is without doubt the most expensive for hostels and we were really struggling to find a hostel in central Copenhagen until my girlfriend stumbled upon this excellent hotel which worked out to be only a couple of pounds more expensive then the hostels in the area - but this one has of course a four star luxury status!
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the city centre and of course a local metro stop which connects directly to the local airport. We made the short journey and located the street that the hostel was on easily. The hotel stood out on this quiet street as we arrived at 9pm and there was no one walking the streets and only one building as lit up - this was the phoenix.
The hotel entrance is grand with a water feature in the middle of reception and its have...

The Marriott Experience (Copenhagen)
Advantages: A pleasant place to stay whilst visiting the beautiful
Disadvantages: Cost
...I was so excited about going to Copenhagen that I never really gave much thought to the hotel because that's my dad's department! He sorts out all our flights and accommodation when we go on holiday (and he always does a good job too!) So when he said we were going to stay in a Marriott hotel, I just trusted his judgement and focused all my excitement on what we were going to do once we got to Copenhagen.
The Copenhagen Marriott (has 5 stars)
********************************************
The hotel has 11 floors and over 300 rooms. (I think we were on the 3rd floor - not that it would matter as there are lifts!) It also has a number of suites. (Unfortunately we just stayed in a standard room with 2 double beds. But it was nice all the same!) It is situated on the riverfront (and we were lucky enough to have a water facing view...

Tivoli Gardens - the centre of Copenhagen
Advantages: Red noses, cold hands and wonder galore - a must do Christmas experience
Disadvantages: It gets might darned cold!!!
...I was lucky enough to have a short break in wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen in early December.
This was my first visit to Denmark and I really didn't know exactly to expect, all I knew of Copenhagen was Hans Christian Anderson and the Little Mermaid.
Out hotel was on the outskirts of the city ( due to a mix up with Expedia - the hotel we were supposed to be using hadn't been given out booking!!) but there was an excellent bus service which we found very easy to use.
This review is about the little gem that I didn't realise existed in the city. I had heard of Tivoli but didn't know just what it was.
Tivoli is in fact the oldest amusement park of the world . It is said that it was Tivoli that inspired Walt Disney to build Disneyland.
The park opened on August 15, 1843 and was designed by Georg Carstensen who said...

'Wonderful Copenhagen'
Advantages: A lovely, friendly, light and colourful place
Disadvantages: Not the greatest amount to see or do
...This is a bit of a hotchpotch review. I will admit that I haven't spent enough time in Copenhagen to write comprehensively about the place, only 5 days, but I'm hoping that what I have to say will complement other people's reviews on ciao. In particular, I can introduce the Copenhagen jazz festival, as this was the reason why I went to the city in the first place.
Copenhagen is a lovely city. To me, it's almost the exact opposite of London, which I have to admit is a city that I don't like at all. London, in four words: grey, dirty, claustrophobic, and unsafe. Whereas Copenhagen just seems much lighter, and clean, open, and harmless. The open-ness comes partly from the bicycle lanes (an inordinate amount of people cycle in Copenhagen, and there are bikes lying around all over the city), which substantially increase the width...

Perfect for a sightseeing trip to Copenhagen
Advantages: good location, very nice rooms, friendly staff
Disadvantages: nothing
...Last summer we went on a short trip to Denmark´s captial and so we needed also a hotel for the one night that we spent in Copenhagen. After we spent some time online to search for the "perfect hotel" we found this one, the Savoy Copenhagen. We paid for one night 105 Euro (88 GBP), not much compared to other hotels in Copenhagen.
The Savoy Copenhagen is located in the Vesterbrogade 34 in
1620 Copenhagen. The hotel´s website can be found here: http://www.savoyhotel.dk/ . It has three stars.
The hotel is just a short walk away from the railway station. So when we came from the airport, we just had to fetch a train to the railway station (took approximatly 15 minutes) and then we just had to walk around 300 meters to reach the Savoy hotel. Also all sights of Copenhagen can be reached by feet from the hotel, but the way to the Little...

New Year in Copenhagen.
Advantages: Not too many tourists.
Disadvantages: Everything is expensive, very cold in the winter months.
...Last New Year my partner and I fancied getting away and decided to book ourselves a last minute short City break over the New Year period. As we booked last minute there wasn't an excess of choice and that is how we ended up choosing Copenhagen as our eventual destination.
FIRST A BIT OF BACKGROUND.
***********************************
Copenhagen began as a small fishing village and rose to become the Capital City of Denmark, in Northern Europe. It is the largest City in Scandinavia with a population of about 1.7 million and is situated on the island of Zealand. The main language spoken is Danish although most of the Danes speak English. We didn't find communication much of an issue anywhere.
THE CITY.
***********
Copenhagen is a relaxed city, full of exceptional architecture and with a generally friendly atmosphere...

Hilton Copenhagen, airport hotel
Advantages: comfortable, luxarious good value for money
Disadvantages: no other resturants near by
...We stayed in this hotel in May 2007. The overall experience was fantastic.
The building, the room, the staffs and the service, everything was superb, as expected from the brand name.
The hotel is adjacent to the main airport and connected to the airport. You do not need to step outside the airport to get into the hotel. Just follow the directions from the main arrival terminal and walk into the main lobby.
It is a big multi storied building. The main lobby, breakfast area, lifts and corridors are or paneled with Scandinavian wood work. From one side, you can get a fantastic view of the bridge connecting Copenhagen to Sweden.
We booked a double room and it was marvelous. The room was specious and well decorated in contemporary style. It was well equipped with lots of storage, ironing board, working desk, wi-fi connection, LCD...
