Phoenix hotel, Copenhagen

Advantages: 4 star luxary, excellent breakfest, cheap deals if booked early
Disadvantages: smallish sized room

...So here we are traveling the globe and the Scandinavian is without doubt the most expensive for hostels and we were really struggling to find a hostel in central Copenhagen until my girlfriend stumbled upon this excellent hotel which worked out to be only a couple of pounds more expensive then the hostels in the area - but this one has of course a four star luxury status! The hotel is within easy walking distance of the city centre and of course a local metro stop which connects directly to the local airport. We made the short journey and located the street that the hostel was on easily. The hotel stood out on this quiet street as we arrived at 9pm and there was no one walking the streets and only one building as lit up - this was the phoenix. The hotel entrance is grand with a water feature in the middle of reception and its have...

The Marriott Experience (Copenhagen)

Advantages: A pleasant place to stay whilst visiting the beautiful
Disadvantages: Cost

...I was so excited about going to Copenhagen that I never really gave much thought to the hotel because that's my dad's department! He sorts out all our flights and accommodation when we go on holiday (and he always does a good job too!) So when he said we were going to stay in a Marriott hotel, I just trusted his judgement and focused all my excitement on what we were going to do once we got to Copenhagen. The Copenhagen Marriott (has 5 stars) ******************************************** The hotel has 11 floors and over 300 rooms. (I think we were on the 3rd floor - not that it would matter as there are lifts!) It also has a number of suites. (Unfortunately we just stayed in a standard room with 2 double beds. But it was nice all the same!) It is situated on the riverfront (and we were lucky enough to have a water facing view...

Perfect for a sightseeing trip to Copenhagen

Advantages: good location, very nice rooms, friendly staff
Disadvantages: nothing

...Last summer we went on a short trip to Denmark´s captial and so we needed also a hotel for the one night that we spent in Copenhagen. After we spent some time online to search for the "perfect hotel" we found this one, the Savoy Copenhagen. We paid for one night 105 Euro (88 GBP), not much compared to other hotels in Copenhagen. The Savoy Copenhagen is located in the Vesterbrogade 34 in 1620 Copenhagen. The hotel´s website can be found here: http://www.savoyhotel.dk/ . It has three stars. The hotel is just a short walk away from the railway station. So when we came from the airport, we just had to fetch a train to the railway station (took approximatly 15 minutes) and then we just had to walk around 300 meters to reach the Savoy hotel. Also all sights of Copenhagen can be reached by feet from the hotel, but the way to the Little...

Copenhagen

Advantages: Relaxed and lovely
Disadvantages: Expensive and not a huge amount to do

...and restaurants. The buildings were renovated and colourfully painted, traditional boats were given moorings and canal tours were started. The result is the centre of tourist Copenhagen but it still manages to easily stay the right side of tacky and is genuinely a nice place to hang around and have a beer or bite to eat. Hotels and eating out ~ It is possible to stay in a dormitory hostel in Copenhagen, with prices around 130DK a night. Hotels start at around 450DK on the outskirts or by the airport and rise to 3000DK nearer the centre of town. There's plenty of choice but you won't find many nice places in good locations for under £100 a night. There isn't an over whelming number of places to eat around the centre of town but there's still plenty of choice. You'll find the usual range of Italian, Spanish and Oriental places as well as a good...

Hilton Copenhagen, airport hotel

Advantages: comfortable, luxarious good value for money
Disadvantages: no other resturants near by

...We stayed in this hotel in May 2007. The overall experience was fantastic. The building, the room, the staffs and the service, everything was superb, as expected from the brand name. The hotel is adjacent to the main airport and connected to the airport. You do not need to step outside the airport to get into the hotel. Just follow the directions from the main arrival terminal and walk into the main lobby. It is a big multi storied building. The main lobby, breakfast area, lifts and corridors are or paneled with Scandinavian wood work. From one side, you can get a fantastic view of the bridge connecting Copenhagen to Sweden. We booked a double room and it was marvelous. The room was specious and well decorated in contemporary style. It was well equipped with lots of storage, ironing board, working desk, wi-fi connection, LCD...

Review of Hilton Copenhagen, Copenhagen

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen

Advantages: Lots to do, easy to navigate, friendly people
Disadvantages: Very Expensive

...nearly two hours, and we were found another hotel - this one though was near to the airport, albeit a higher standard of hotel it wasn't the type or location we wanted, but we were desperate and so a taxi was called to take us to our new hotel. Anyway, sorry, I digress, this review is not about Expedia but about the lovely city of Copenhagen. (Go on admit, it you're tempted to sing 'Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen' aren't you!!) Copenhagen certainly is a great place to visit, is about as varied as it gets and offers the visitor a wonderful assortment of modern architecture, Renaissance buildings, incredible houses dating back to the city's mid-12th century origin, interesting and colourful Viking history, Hans Christian Andersen and a wonderful 160 year old amusement park located right in the heart of town and you'll quickly realize that...

Christiania - Copenhagen

Advantages: Interesting history
Disadvantages: Struggling to find an identity in the 21st Century

...Christiania - Copenhagen Set in the heart of Copenhagen, Christiania is a very interesting place. Perhaps more interesting to read about than visit it is still worth dropping by just to get a feel for the place. Reading the guidebooks prior to our trip to Copenhagen I got the impression it was a small, free thinking, hippy part of town. The kind of place that is full of handicraft workshops, organic cafes and eclectic displays of body piercing. Quaintly declaring itself apart from the rest of the country I thought it might be something a bit like Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod perhaps. The truth is very different, however, and Christiania's short and bloody history makes for strange reading History ~ Up until the late 1960's when it was decommissioned the site of Christiania was a military barracks. Having lain derelict...

Tivoli Gardens - the centre of Copenhagen

Advantages: Red noses, cold hands and wonder galore - a must do Christmas experience
Disadvantages: It gets might darned cold!!!

...I was lucky enough to have a short break in wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen in early December. This was my first visit to Denmark and I really didn't know exactly to expect, all I knew of Copenhagen was Hans Christian Anderson and the Little Mermaid. Out hotel was on the outskirts of the city ( due to a mix up with Expedia - the hotel we were supposed to be using hadn't been given out booking!!) but there was an excellent bus service which we found very easy to use. This review is about the little gem that I didn't realise existed in the city. I had heard of Tivoli but didn't know just what it was. Tivoli is in fact the oldest amusement park of the world . It is said that it was Tivoli that inspired Walt Disney to build Disneyland. The park opened on August 15, 1843 and was designed by Georg Carstensen who said...

'Wonderful Copenhagen'

Advantages: A lovely, friendly, light and colourful place
Disadvantages: Not the greatest amount to see or do

...of at all if it hadn't of been for the jazz festival. Which I will come to shortly. But first, the matter of accommodation. I stayed with my friends for 5 days in the campsite Charlottenlund Fort. We chose to camp here because it seemed to be the cheapest place in Copenhagen - cheaper than all of the hostels, and hotels. The prices vary as to how big your tent is, or whether you've got a car, or whether you want electricity or not, and so on, but for us - we just had two small tents without electricity or car - it cost about £8 a night per person. And it was lovely. The campsite was situated on the waterfront, in Copenhagen but out of the centre, complete with its own little sandy beach, moat, and canons. I assume to defend the fort when there was one. The showers and toilets were surprisingly clean, there was a small cooking area, washing...

Review of Copenhagen (Denmark)

Simply Superb

Advantages: Friendly; nice rooms; breakfast; location
Disadvantages: Location (if you like being in the city centre)

...Possibly the strangest name for a hotel I've come across; the Kong Arthur, we read before arriving, was a knights-of-the-round-table-themed hotel ('Kong' being Danish for 'King' which naturally got me wondering if King Kong was released in Denamrk as Kong Kong). I have to say right from the start that this wasn't the reason for our staying - I hadn't planned to don any armour and have Mel play the maiden in distress, and from the photos on the website the theme didn't seem to be one that was particularly evident. Anyway, situated around 10 minutes walk from the Norreport metro station, which itself is reached in about 15 minutes from the airport, the location could hardly be better. Copenhagen is compact, and walking to the centre is a pleasure. Cycling there even more so. Tivoli is a 20 minute wander; the end of the Stroget the same...
