...I have read most of Maeve Binchy's books and feel that The Copper Beech is one of her better ones. The book is based, as usual, in Ireland, and focuses on a small town called Shancarrig. The town has a small stone school that stands in the shadow of a large Copper Beech tree. The tree and the school are the central focus of the tale, which covers the lives of people that come into contact with both; the teacher, children, parents and priests alike. Whilst the town may appear sleepy on the surface, you don't have to scratch very deep to uncover surprising secrets. The book is written almost as a series of short stories, telling individual tales of the characters. He Kills Coppers by Jake Arnott

Advantages: It's a compelling story for those who enjoy bleak themes.
Disadvantages: The multiple voices could be a tad confusing.

Palmers copper ale. A good session ale?

Advantages: You have to drink alot to get a hangover, cheaper then the other palmers beers.
Disadvantages: Its a bit weak, and not very exciting.

...Palmers Copper Ale: Alcohol content: 3.7% Brewed using English malted barley and golding hops. Palmers brewery is in Bridport, in Dorset. They brew a selection of traditional beers, and in my opinion the copper ale is the worst one. Palmers copper ale is the boys beer. The beer which wont really get you drunk unless you drink lots and lots of it. You are highly unlikely to ever get a hangover after drinking it, unless you are a bit of a lightweight. Prices range from about £2 a pint, to £2.50 a pint depending on where you go to drink it. If you go to one of the palmers pubs you are looking at £2.30/£2.40 a pint. The ale is a copper colour (suprise suprise), and if kept and the correct temperture and poured well, should have a slight head on it, and it should be clear. The taste is not really that exciting to be honest...

...of collagen and elastin, to help make my hands look younger. The best news for me however was that this cream skin lightening Lemon and Bearberry to help fade sun brown spots. In addition the cream contains Linden flowers and Aloe Vera to help moisturise and myrrh to help strengthen your cuticles and nails. With such ambitious claims I decided to do a bit of research, as I had never heard of some of the ingredients. Bearberry has antibacterial qualities and was used as an anti-septic before antibiotics were discovered. Lemon too acts as an anti septic as does myrrh. Linden flowers can help with itchy skin, often associated with chapped hands. I knew that aloe Vera was good for moisturising. I was intrigued to read that malachite is also known as copper carbonate, a green coloured mineral. I have not been able to find any useful information...

Mauviel Cookware - Do they suit you?

Advantages: Fast heating, even heat distribution, classic look

...Copper really is the most fantastic element to cook with but it comes at a cost! Traditionally, copper pans were lined with a layer of tin to avoid them from reacting with acidic foods. However since stainless steel has become a widely used material for cooking, copper pans have been lined with this. Mauviel make more than just copper cookware and you should strongly consider whether copper is the material in which you a) need and b) want to cook with. The company are a very small French one who have over 100 years experience - they really know their stuff. Each pan comes with a label with a note to say which of the 5 people checked your pan before it was sent out - a lovely touch. Now, copper has distinct advantages when it comes to cooking: - Excellent conductivity which means - even heat distribution - fast heating...

Maeve's Marvellous Beech Book

Advantages: Beautifully written, thought provoking & keeps your train of thought
Disadvantages: Like all Binchy books, it comes to an end.

...I freely admit to loving Maeve Binchy books, I have been a huge fan of her books since I was a teenager and special occassions (holidays usually) call for me buying one of her books. The Cooper Beech was one book I had had difficulty in obtaining for a while and was please to find it in a second hand book stall in Bath, the book itself told a tale, the spine was well work and loved, a testiment to Binchy's writing. The book is set in Ireland as usual, in the late forties and early fifties & the focus being on the village of 'Shancarrig' and the lives and and affairs of it's residents, both young and old. The Copper Beech is a tree that stands at the heart of Shancarrig, in the school grounds. ...fruit but its definitely fruity. Best served chilled, I like my white wines chilled at least over night, but I would imagine you would need to chill for a least a couple of hours. This wine isn't too strong as it is only 11.5% vol. So I shouldn't have much of a headache tomorrow. The wine is produced by Suhindol and other wines in this range include Copper crossing red and copper crossing dry white, amongst others and it was these that I chose between as Bottoms up had all three. I would buy this again and at £3 a bottle its not a bad wine for the price, so there for is definitely recommended. The really good thing with shopping for wine in Bottoms up is that they sort them in countries and having done France and now Bulgaria I am off to someplace else next! What a nice way to experience the world! Thanks for reading...
