THE COPPER BEECH - MAEVE BINCHY
Advantages: Easy to Read
Disadvantages: None
...I have read most of Maeve Binchy's books and feel that The Copper Beech is one of her better ones.
The book is based, as usual, in Ireland, and focuses on a small town called Shancarrig. The town has a small stone school that stands in the shadow of a large Copper Beech tree. The tree and the school are the central focus of the tale, which covers the lives of people that come into contact with both; the teacher, children, parents and priests alike. Whilst the town may appear sleepy on the surface, you don't have to scratch very deep to uncover surprising secrets.
The book is written almost as a series of short stories, telling individual tales of the characters. However, all of the characters come together at the end, with some parts of the plots being hinted at in other people's stories. The plots cover a vast range...

The Face of Evil
Advantages: A big read with lots of action
Disadvantages: A few minor niggles.
...My apologies to those that are fed up of Dean Koontz reviews but having read "The Face" I thought I'd add my review to those that have already been written. If I duplicate any of the thoughts or parts of the story then consider it as flattery as sometimes you just can't improve on what has already been written. I haven't been well lately so it's given me a lot of time for reading and Koontz is my type of escapism.
The Plot
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Picture a large mansion in acres of ground set in California, a mansion that was built for a film mogul in the years of the great depression but now home to the biggest star in Hollywood, one Channing Manhiem known as "The Face" for his popularity and good looks.
Now look at his only son a spindly lad of ten years old dubbed with the name of Aelfric by his mother who got out of the marriage...

He Kills Coppers by Jake Arnott
Advantages: It's a compelling story for those who enjoy bleak themes.
Disadvantages: The multiple voices could be a tad confusing.
...impulses and is able to identify all too easily with the crime figures he writes about; Billy Porter is an ex-army corporal, ex-convict, and small time crook who is about to become number one on the police hit parade because...He Kills Coppers.
Its England 1966 and the police force are trying to stamp out the corruption that's running rampant in the city streets. We meet Frank Taylor, a young plain clothes detective on the police force's fast-track promotion scheme. He has been drafted into the taskforce charged with cleaning up the streets of London, more specifically, the clip joints of Soho where tourists are being regularly fleeced. THE FACE OF EVIL ?
Advantages: Super film - action packed til the last.
Disadvantages: Under 18s should not view.
...I have just watched this movie for the third time, and it's an epic. Starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, the "good guy, bad guy" theme throughout the film is convincing, and what starts looking like any other shoot em up cop film actually turns into a very interesting twist of events, all improbable, although all only just beyond the realms of possibility with medical science advancing as it is, and altogether a roller coaster of emotions, impossible situations, and with a running theme of evil versus good.
The film opens with a carousel and FBI agent Sean Archer (played by John Travolta), holding his son, his passion as a father showing in his face, and the ever present threat of violence from Nicholas Cage, poised with his gun, who aims at Archer, and by fluke kills the child. This isn't very much of a giveaway, since all this...

bio-oil face cream
Advantages: helps cover scars etc
Disadvantages: none
...I have been using this face cream for quite a well now. I started to use it when i was in a car accident and i have quite a large scar in between my eyes. It's shaped like a backward L.
For a year or two i kept putting on loads of make up to cover the scar. But i noticed this face cream and started using it twice a day. The redness in my scar has started to fade. The scar is really not noticeable now.
I find the cream very reasonable. It's not too oily and goes on really easy. It has totally given me the confidence to not wear make-up and the scar has totally faded. The cream didn't irritate my skin, it made it feel soft and full of life again. The scar in between my eyes was quite sensitive but it ain't now thanks to Bio-oil.
The product is great value for money and you can get it from most stores....

Face/Off
Advantages: John Woo, character performances, action, supporting cast, intriguing story
Disadvantages: unbelievability
..."I'd like to take his face off."
--Sean Archer (the good guy)
The thing I love about (good) action movies is their sheer intensity in carrying viewers past plot absurdities, giving them little time to think "Could that really happen?" This, however, doesn't necessarily mean we're not supposed to take them seriously, as most critics like to point out; I'm very serious about the levels of insanity, which attempt to captivate my attention from the very beginning of a movie.
Face/Off is as brilliant an action spectacle as them come: it never once hesitates on playing it safe, and is masterful in blurring the distinctions between antagonist and protagonist, making it a rip-roaring emotional rollercoaster for the entirety of its two hr twenty mins running time. Indeed, more things get blown up in the first 15 mins of the film than...

** Lick My Face!! **
Advantages: Gorgeous smell, skin softening, bargain!
Disadvantages: Not Edible!!!!
...I am a nightmare when it comes to picking random things up in shops. You know the small things that tempt you at the tills. Whether it's a quick pack of chewing gum at the till or the extra special gift tag that HAS to go with the wrapping paper. That's why I'm terrible and really should get in the habit of taking a shopping list. On my last trip to Superdrug's, if I recall correctly I went in to get some emergency supplies, cotton buds and body spray! As I tried to find the right aisle I walked past this very tempting display of Superdrug's face masks. Hmmmmm I thought, should I? Shouldn't I? Well to be honest I didn't think for very long and at the tiny price of 89p it wasn't going to break the bank.
Not only am I a fan of bargains but a bargain that includes chocolate! Oh gosh someone save me right now from becoming faint! So what...

Face bothered? NO!!
Advantages: Audrey's dancing, family entertainment, pretty costumes
Disadvantages: Dull, poor plot, cheesy, poor songs
...I was a bit fed up last night. My thirteen-year-old daughter has been very challenging lately and I just needed to relax and unwind. I have shelves of DVDs, several of which I have bought, but never got round to watching. So I scanned my shelves looking for an upbeat, feel good movie to cheer me up.
A few months ago, I bought The Audrey Hepburn Collection box set. The only film I have seen Audrey in is the wonderful My Fair Lady, but I think she is beautiful and fascinating and I wanted to see more of her work. The one I chose to watch last night was Funny Face, a 1956 film starring Audrey with Fred Astaire.
I love films from this era and I love musicals, so I had high hopes for this one. It began reasonably well with setting the scene and a pleasant musical diversion featuring women in pretty pink dresses. By this point though, my...
