Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz - 17" TFT
Advantages: nice screen, good battery life, fast specs
Disadvantages: large size (price?)
...Apple mac-books, where to start...
ok, so to start,
it is an apple, that means you get a solid quality product and on the whole very good customer are.
this particualar apple is deffinatly more suited to being a media center than other laptops. At first glance you realise that it is a fairly large laptop, this allows for a big screen, which being an apple ffers clear vivid displays, unfortunatly the big screen increases the overal size and also uses more battery, however, the 4.5 hour yattery is still very good for an entertainment laptop.
The laptops technical specs include a very fast 2.5 ghz dual core proccesor which is very fast, the dual core allows it to tackle multiple tasks quicly as well as increasing the overall speed of the laptop.
The price is quite steep however, but i believe, if given the money, it is...

Apple iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 20" TFT
Advantages: speed, sound, generous size monitor, Leopard OS
Disadvantages: Power/Sleep light missing
...Duration of ownership:2 Weeks
Strengths: Sleek and beautiful design, simple and elegant operating system, wireless keyboard and mouse
Weaknesses: Power/Sleep light missing
Overall Evaluation:I have used Macs (5th one) since mid-90s and have always appreciated their design and OS strengths. Overall, this is an great computer. Everything worked perfectly right out of the box without checking the manual. Considering what is included on this iMac, it is an impressive array of features. About the only peripheral you need to add is a printer! You sure get a lot of features for the money.Price is always a concern, especially compared to PCs. With this model, they have added more "bells and whistles" and not raising the price.Apple has finally gotten its act together by redesigning the popular iMac....

..." (OS10.5) disk since the display model I had bought had the old "Tiger" 10.4.10. Since I work with multimedia and am very impressed with the software delivered with iLife (disk included with the Apple products) I was disappointed to see that most of the items which are of use, do not work using Leopard. So I returned to the older Tiger and this is the system that I am presently testing. With only 1GB of memory I believed that the applications may be a little slow but actually everything seems to be operating as usual. My old Titanium runs at 400MHz and so with the present speed of 2.16GHz I expected an increase in speed but should have known that there would be no change. Software takes just as long to start up, close down and granted I can run several enormous programs parallel, nothing actually is any faster. Points of comment 1...

The Apple of my eye (iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz - 20")
Advantages: Reliable, fast processing, stylish, easy to use
Disadvantages: Could do with a couple more USB ports
...and fast. I upgraded to 2GB of RAM, and I understand that the boxed product comes with 1GB, I would definitely recommend increasing the RAM capacity, just to give it that edge.
There is plenty of storage space; and being in the middle of my third year of studying, I haven't as yet ran out of room, even with all my graphics and film work being stored on there. The Firewire Port is also another really useful feature, particularly for designers; it enables the quick download of video and film from a DV Camera or External Hard drive.
I find that the iMac is very quiet, and when it is in 'sleep' mode, you can't even hear that it is still on.
In my opinion, the audio on the iMac is brilliant. I am a music lover, and at the moment I don't have any external speakers attached, but even without them the audio quality is great.
I think the iMac is...

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.26 GHz - 13.3" TFT - excellent!
Advantages: portable, runs very fast, large storage with TimeMachine application for backing up your work
Disadvantages: some problems with using Safari, though this may be due to the wireless network I am using, costs!
...In my opinion, the Apple Macbook Pro is an ideal laptop. As a student, I find that it meets all my needs - I can store plenty of music, photos etc even though I bought the cheapest one with the smallest memory.
The system operates very fast and comes with both Firefox and Safari.
My only criticism is that it only comes with textedit and so you have to buy iWorks for around £65. However, despite this it is good value for money and I don't regret spending my 2 years worth of part-time earnings on it!
It has everything I want from a laptop and is ideally portable and good for watching films despite the smaller screen size. Another feature I particularly liked was that it has a light up keyboard for when you are in darker rooms - you can adjust the brightness of the keyboard the same as you can for the screen. Looks very impressive!
It is...

The Happy Maccy Chappy
Advantages: High speed, gorgeous, and easy to use
Disadvantages: Price, operating temperature
...sections that will help you make an informed decision before buying, to illustrate the various aspects of the laptop which you might like.
The Specifications
The model I have has a 15.4" screen with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 200GB hard drive. They're lovely numbers aren't they? Manufacturers use these numbers in an attempt to impress you, to make you part with more money than necessary. I tell you this because Apple try to "screw you over" somewhat, as they offer three different models of the MBP. Let me explain.
There are two versions of the 15.4" model, the second one having a 2.5GHz processor and a 250GB hard drive. The other difference you might notice if you look closely is that the processor cache size is 6MB not 3MB. Six is a bigger number than three, so the smaller one must be rubbish! This...

Ideal for photographers!
Advantages: Fantastic screen for working on images. Love the aluminum case.
Disadvantages: Gets hot. Lacks a slot for memory cards.
...plastic, is that I have dropped mine several times resulting only in dents. Had this laptop been plastic, I would have had to throw it away by now.
I have 2GB ram in mine, and it very confidently runs as many apps as I wish to have open at one time, including Photoshop CS2, with absolutely no problems.
Another quick thing to mention, is that my PC used to crash several times a day. My MacBook Pro has only crashed a few times in it's entire two year lifetime.
I'm so happy with my first apple computer product that it has persuaded me to drop several thousand pounds on a desktop machine - they must be getting something right!
The only thing it is really missing, is a built in slot for memory cards into the case, or even space to insert a card to allow this functionality. If it had this, it would be an absolutely perfect machine....

Late 2008 Macbook Pro
Advantages: Large screen, backlit keyboard, aluminium casing, unibody
Disadvantages: Expensive!
...This review is being written by my son as this particular mac 'baby' is his new toy. ( I have his old one!).
I bought this macbook as a replacement for my 6 month old Black Macbook. Initially i was very impressed with the purchase. There is a marked improvement in functionailty over the standard macbook. The screen is a very nice size making it far more usable at a desk rather than on your lap. The battery life is very good when using the on board graphics adaptor (changeable via logout with the discrete graphics card), with about 4.5 hours with minimal usage. The basic underlying hardware is much improved meaning that it will run windows (vista ultimate in my case) via bootcamp much faster than previous generations with superior graphics and gaming. The backlit keyboard is a must have if you have ever had to work with minimal...

And well yes, VIRUS free!!
Mac is a must, and if you can afford, then I'd have to say that you won't regret having this amazing laptop! and the best thing in the end... if Apple launches a new model, or a new generation laptop, you can still sell your old notebook, for an excellent price!
