Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz - 17" TFT
Advantages: nice screen, good battery life, fast specs
Disadvantages: large size (price?)
...Apple mac-books, where to start...
ok, so to start,
it is an apple, that means you get a solid quality product and on the whole very good customer are.
this particualar apple is deffinatly more suited to being a media center than other laptops. At first glance you realise that it is a fairly large laptop, this allows for a big screen, which being an apple ffers clear vivid displays, unfortunatly the big screen increases the overal size and also uses more battery, however, the 4.5 hour yattery is still very good for an entertainment laptop.
The laptops technical specs include a very fast 2.5 ghz dual core proccesor which is very fast, the dual core allows it to tackle multiple tasks quicly as well as increasing the overall speed of the laptop.
The price is quite steep however, but i believe, if given the money, it is...

The Apple of my eye (iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz - 20")
Advantages: Reliable, fast processing, stylish, easy to use
Disadvantages: Could do with a couple more USB ports
...and fast. I upgraded to 2GB of RAM, and I understand that the boxed product comes with 1GB, I would definitely recommend increasing the RAM capacity, just to give it that edge.
There is plenty of storage space; and being in the middle of my third year of studying, I haven't as yet ran out of room, even with all my graphics and film work being stored on there. The Firewire Port is also another really useful feature, particularly for designers; it enables the quick download of video and film from a DV Camera or External Hard drive.
I find that the iMac is very quiet, and when it is in 'sleep' mode, you can't even hear that it is still on.
In my opinion, the audio on the iMac is brilliant. I am a music lover, and at the moment I don't have any external speakers attached, but even without them the audio quality is great.
I think the iMac is...

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.26 GHz - 13.3" TFT - excellent!
Advantages: portable, runs very fast, large storage with TimeMachine application for backing up your work
Disadvantages: some problems with using Safari, though this may be due to the wireless network I am using, costs!
...In my opinion, the Apple Macbook Pro is an ideal laptop. As a student, I find that it meets all my needs - I can store plenty of music, photos etc even though I bought the cheapest one with the smallest memory.
The system operates very fast and comes with both Firefox and Safari.
My only criticism is that it only comes with textedit and so you have to buy iWorks for around £65. However, despite this it is good value for money and I don't regret spending my 2 years worth of part-time earnings on it!
It has everything I want from a laptop and is ideally portable and good for watching films despite the smaller screen size. Another feature I particularly liked was that it has a light up keyboard for when you are in darker rooms - you can adjust the brightness of the keyboard the same as you can for the screen. Looks very impressive!
It is...

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz - 15.4" TFT
Advantages: ''
Disadvantages: ''
..." (OS10.5) disk since the display model I had bought had the old "Tiger" 10.4.10. Since I work with multimedia and am very impressed with the software delivered with iLife (disk included with the Apple products) I was disappointed to see that most of the items which are of use, do not work using Leopard. So I returned to the older Tiger and this is the system that I am presently testing. With only 1GB of memory I believed that the applications may be a little slow but actually everything seems to be operating as usual. My old Titanium runs at 400MHz and so with the present speed of 2.16GHz I expected an increase in speed but should have known that there would be no change. Software takes just as long to start up, close down and granted I can run several enormous programs parallel, nothing actually is any faster. Points of comment 1...

Apple iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 20" TFT
Advantages: speed, sound, generous size monitor, Leopard OS
Disadvantages: Power/Sleep light missing
...Duration of ownership:2 Weeks
Strengths: Sleek and beautiful design, simple and elegant operating system, wireless keyboard and mouse
Weaknesses: Power/Sleep light missing
Overall Evaluation:I have used Macs (5th one) since mid-90s and have always appreciated their design and OS strengths. Overall, this is an great computer. Everything worked perfectly right out of the box without checking the manual. Considering what is included on this iMac, it is an impressive array of features. About the only peripheral you need to add is a printer! You sure get a lot of features for the money.Price is always a concern, especially compared to PCs. With this model, they have added more "bells and whistles" and not raising the price.Apple has finally gotten its act together by redesigning the popular iMac....

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (Performance Computing For The Masses)
Advantages: Speed, Reliability, Overclockability and Price!
Disadvantages: None!
...The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz CPU is a triumph of computing technology, It combines cool running temperatures, Good clock speeds and Great performance for a low affordable price.
These CPU's are well suited to Gaming applications due to their calculation proccess and their Overclockability, This CPU will run all modern games and future games with ease! providing great FPS Rates and great gaming enjoyment, speeds of 3.6Ghz + can be achieved easily on stock cooling.
With after-market cooling much higher clock speeds can be achieved. This CPU is very stable and reliable even when overclocked.
I was originally hooked on AMD CPU's and was adament that they provided better gaming performance, However after i finaly took the leap to see what all the fuss was about with the Intel C2D CPU's i have never looked back, These CPU's far out...

Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 13.3" - I'm a convert
Advantages: Stylish, flexible, super fast startup
Disadvantages: Pricey compared to a PC
...the choices below; they're all open source/freeware. My budget for toys is dry following the arrival of the MacBook, so it's cheapies or freebies for me for a while.
So here goes:
1. Browser (Firefox)
With the advent of Firefox V3.0 (FF3), I was finally teased away from Internet Explorer (IE) on the PC. The time taken to develop css sites and make them work cross-platform was hugely reduced, I was a convert. I'm sure Safari is truly great, but I'll be sticking to FF for dev for the foreseeable future.
2. Messaging client (MSN Messenger for Mac)
A no brainer really, need to retain the continuity with my previous MSN contacts. That said, I've hardly used it since I installed it.
3. Twitter client (TweetDeck)|
If you're into Twitter, you need a client. This one fits the bill nicely, lets you group your followees and has a nice user interface. It...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750/ 2.66ghz
Advantages: Fast clock speed / Good amount of lvl2 cache
Disadvantages: Could balance out workload onto both cores a bit more
...This processor is a fairly mid-high spec for core 2 duo range it delivers some great performance for a good price.
This cpu can handle a lot of multi-tasking along with playing powerful games. Usually i can run a defragmentation and notice it hardly at all i can play games and play music with no problem it just makes desktop computing so easy.
As you may know this is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 / 2.66ghz cpu, It has 2 cores on the one chip. it runs with 64-bit architecture which then opens up a whole new world of 64-bit operating systems for tommorows technolodgy...this along with the fact it has 4mb lvl2 cache makes superfast repsonse rates to programs and files i have also noticed that their are not so many "cache misses" to which i expected so this pleases me the most :D
The only downside is that i have noticed that core...

Core 2 Duo E8500
Advantages: Very Fast, good overclocker
Disadvantages: Possible Temperature problem, E8400 is worth a look at
...The Core 2 Duo E8500 is an extremely fast processor for the LGA 775 socket. At a stock speed of 3.16 Ghz, it is already fast enough to accomedate most user's need, but if people want to push it further, then thats not a problem for this.
I bought the processor at the beginning of last year, and what a great purchase it was. After updating my Bios on the motherboard to support the 45nm processor, it was set and ready to go. After a while though I decided to try and overclock it, and was amazed at how well it did it. I managed to get it 4Ghz + stable with just a simple after market cooler. Overclocking is no problem for this, aslong as you have to motherboard and cooling to match.
When I bought this there was a big debate between the E8400 and E8500, and all it comes down to is .5 of a multiplyer. E8400 is...

Old design hides great new features
Advantages: Huge, High res display. Very quick, great processor, ram, high capacity HDD
Disadvantages: No unibody design, some features only available on SMALLER model, Still no Blu-Ray
...unibody machines).
It is, as it's name implies, designed around the large, 17" display. The whole machine is only slightly larger than the display itself, approximately 1/4 of an inch larger on the left and right side, and 1/2 of an inch larger on the top and bottom. The computer is a shade less than an inch thick when closed, and around about 3 KG. It is a large laptop, but is about the thinest and lightest large screen laptop available.
It's specs are impressive, what you expect from a top end mac, a dual core 2.5GHz processor, large 320GB hard disc, 4GB ram as standard and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory make this a powerful road warrior laptop.
It includes most of the additional features you find on high end computers too. 802.11 B/G/N wireless networking, gigabit ethernet, bluetooth 2.1 EDR...
