...I've been using Paint Shop Pro since around 1998/9, when PSP5 was out. Since then, it's been through many different upgrades, and I've learnt much about photo and image editing along the way. Until version 10, or Paint Shop Pro X to give it its proper title, the software was developed and sold by Jasc. From version 10 onwards, however, it has been part of the Corel family of software, alongside the likes of Corel Draw and, of late, Winzip. From version 11 onwards, the software gained the word 'Photo' in its title, becoming Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. It's impossible to give a review that covers absolutely everything about a product like Paint Shop Pro. Corel - Linux with the brains taken out

Advantages: Easy, graphical installation
Disadvantages: Not many programs bundled, lack of configuration tools

...Corel Linux has received some fairly good reviews, and was marketed as 'Linux for beginners'. Not being much of an expert myself, I tried installing it. The install went OK, with an impressive-looking graphical installation program. But once I actually got into using it, I was rather unimpressed. Although the supplied KDE window manager was easy to use, I was underwhelmed at the amount and scope of programs provided. It was the basics, and certainly nothing more. It also seemed to be missing most of the useful configuration tools you usually get, both graphical and command-line based. This is a bit of a blow to any user, especially a beginner like me. I don't want to be forced to edit configuration files manually in order to get my soundcard and modem to work, just because Corel can't be bothered to install a program that...

Corel Hotel, Roda Corfu

Advantages: Cheap, good atmosphere

The one place that always seemed to come up was the Corel Hotel in Corfu. All the pictures and info on the net pointed to a good family run hotel in a nice area of Corfu. LOCATION The hotel is situated on the outskirts of RODA which itself is about an hour and a half from Corfu Town and the airport. The hotel itself is literally a small stones throw from the beach. Alas that's a pebble beach but its still right on the sea. When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised at the location. If a serious hobby photographer this is for you

Advantages: loads of features,professional feel
Disadvantages: not for the casual user or the professional, suits the serious hobbiest

...Ive used the paint shop pro series for many years and,for my use, much prefer it to the top rated 'photoshop' . Photoshop is professional standard and has every feature you can imagine but for my use, (a lot of fun photography and a little professional work) paint shop is much better suited to my needs. Like many photo and WP packages you will never use all the features, the trick is finding the ones you need and becomming familier with them. This is made easy with the quickly mastered interface used by paintshop pro. This system was developed by Jasic and only recently sold to Corel and with their large buget and expanding outlook I was expecting big things from PPXI over previous versions and there are some good ones but on the whole I actually prefer version 7 for ease of use . Advantages: Great price compared to others, vast amount of tools, seemless editing

I didn't know much about photo editing at the time but our computer came with a demo of X1, which was nearly 2 years ago. I liked the demo so I thought I would go buy Corel Paint Shop Pro X2. I paid about £25 for it in total to be shipped from america on ebay. Not bad, considering that other places and shops were selling it for anything up to £40. I was expecting the CD to come in a plastic DVD case meaning there would be room for an instruction manual. Performance gives way to ease of use

Advantages: Cool interface, good for newbies
Disadvantages: slow, no way to change X window manager, can't mount HDs easily

...of the things running and being a Linux novice, I didn't want to muck up my system. I have now uninstalled Corel Linux and I'm not thinking of installing it again. The interface has pushed aside the need for performance resulting in pratically no usability...

Windows isn't the only one honest - Linux

Advantages: Fantastic - the best thing you could have on a hard drive (apart from maybe half-life!)
Disadvantages: software not always compatible

...Linux is, in my opinion, windows superior competetor. First of all, and one of the greatest aspects, it is free. I don't mean signing up is free, I mean it is FREE, totally. No cost to you. Being this, it has to be one of the greatest downloads you can ever make. It has open source (this means that anyone can change it to however they want so companies make their own vervios - Corel, Redhat...etc.) so you can pick the one that will suit your needs. And the fact that it's free isn't what makes it better, I mean, if it cost the exact same as windows, they would still have users. It comes with a few free games (mostly everything for it is free) like snake, smiletis...etc. And loads of screensavers and backgrounds and whatnot. This will have you playing at it, after installed, for ages. It also usually comes with a word processor similar...

Graphics heaven

Advantages: good software package,
Disadvantages: takes time to get used to it

...I got this for a bargain price of £18 why because it was from a friend who I personally think is hooked on Graphics software, being a Graphics student he’s always updating regardless of how fast they come out, and with version 10 out very quickly, I got myself a true bargain which I am very pleased with. It is very easy to install, just follow the wizard and it will be installed within minutes. It has a good manual book if you require help, they even have UK based phone number which you can ring if you have trouble, but I doubt you will have any problems. The range of features which Corel Draw 9 version is more than enough to keep you busy. With so many different tools to ‘experiment’ with, and I still after having this software for a month now haven’t used them all. They have so many templates...
