Kalami- Corfu
Advantages: Amazing, relazing, beautiful.
Disadvantages: Some parts are very chavvy and "english"
...I have been to Corfu twice, and have stayed in Kalami on the two occasions I visited with family.
My mum had always wanteds to go to Corfu after reading Gerald Durrells MY Family and Other Animals, which was set in the country of Corfu. But we had been told some bad things about the country, told that it was very "English-y" and not the nicest place to go. But when we looked into Drect Greece, we found this beautiful little town called Kalami, and when my mum found there was an apartement where Gerald Durrell had stayed when he was writing his book, she booked it straight away. And so off we went.
We flew from Manchester airport with MyTravel, the flight took around 3 hours and so we had a film on and got a meal on the flight so the time went very quickly. Upon arriving in Corfu, the heat hit us as soon as we stepped off...

Kassiopi - The Loveliest Resort on Corfu!
Advantages: Great Beaches, Friendly People, Fabulous Climate
Disadvantages: Negligible...
...heard of Kassiopi before? but having visited it once, am sure to return?
HISTORY: Kassiopi has had a long and extravagant history, predating Roman times, when the emperor Tiberius had a villa there. At one stage, Kassiopi grew into quite a powerful city, reaching its zenith in the 10th AD. Little physical evidence remains of this former glory, other than the ruins of an old Byzantine fort on the hill above the town, a massive edifice which was in turn built upon the ruins of a Roman fortress, constructed when Corfu was an outpost of Nero's empire. Kassiopi was virtually destroyed during the Turkish conquests and completely abandoned after the invasion of 1537. The Venetians began to resettle the area again from 1590 onwards, and in 1604 the Epirus priests established a church, of the Blessed Virgin Kassopitras, at the site of its destroyed...

Dassia, Corfu
Advantages: Nice Quiet Resort, Very Friendly Locals
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of Kids Attractions.
...amazed at the downturn in the weather, so perhaps if you decide to holiday here you will have better luck with the weather than we did.
Getting About
There is a taxi rank and the southern end of the resort. Most of the taxis are black Mercedes and the fare into Corfu Town from Dassia was 5 Euros. Although it is advisable to agree a price before getting in.
There are several car and moped hire shops. Drivers beware the Corfiots drive like complete lunatics and will quite happily try to run you off the road. Dotted all down the roads are little shrines where people have met their maker.
We did however hire a car for three days and visited the entire island. Due to the island being so small this is easily done and the scenery between towns and villages is absolutely breathtaking.

FROLICS ON CORFU
Advantages: see opinion
Disadvantages: see opinion
...Bulgaria from the Wombles, only in a long black dress.
Corfu Town is busy, busy, busy, and a nightmare in the Magical Shitheap. Apparently it was just a massive free-for-all, no need to understand the traffic laws as no one takes any notice of them anyway. We didn't find too much to enthrall us there, but we did find a cricket pitch with a concrete batting strip in the middle of a large square. I was quite scared for any drivers who were trying to negotiate the town and dodge the flying cricket balls at the same time. Loads of nice looking buildings, but I didn't fancy getting out for a stroll so off we dawdled through the jams instead.
Cassiopi was a charming small fishing village just to the north of Barbati, full of traditional and brightly coloured boats and crafts. We had a nice look round here, and ate some excellent food in...

Corel Hotel, Roda Corfu
Advantages: Cheap, good atmosphere
Disadvantages: Old and in need of a tidy up
...Coral Hotel, Roda Corfu
INTRO
Not knowing where to go for hols this year we decided to convert our Tesco vouchers and go for a free holiday. The one place that always seemed to come up was the Corel Hotel in Corfu.
All the pictures and info on the net pointed to a good family run hotel in a nice area of Corfu.
LOCATION
The hotel is situated on the outskirts of RODA which itself is about an hour and a half from Corfu Town and the airport.
The hotel itself is literally a small stones throw from the beach. Alas that's a pebble beach but its still right on the sea. When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised at the location. There's about a 10 mile stretch of water between Corfu and the mountains of Albania. Stick all of this together and you have nothing short of a fantastic location.
THE HOTEL
The hotel is divided up in to...

Marbella Corfu Hotel
Advantages: Can get a good price on good quality
Disadvantages: probably not a five star hotel
.... Corfu town is also worth a visit and is about 25mins by car and bus or 3/4hour by quad bike. For a 10 day last minute deal we got flights, superior double room with garden view and half board accommodation for £600 each which I think represented good value.
All in all a great place to relax or to use as a base for exploring the island. The rooms are functioning rather than amazing but the rest of the hotel compensates for this nicely....

Messonghi Village Corfu
Advantages: Ferry available to Greece
Disadvantages: Too many Tourists
...I was sorry to read the one review you have on Messonghi Village Corfu. I went there way back in 1986 with a friend and had a very good time, although I wasn't very keen on the place we stayed in.
We stayed in an apartment block and had a bedroom with en-suite, which consisted of just a shower, sink and toilet.
The room was basic, containing the usual, a double bed, side cabinets, wardrobe, dressing table and a kitchen bar which consisted of just a kettle, cups and saucers and a couple of glasses (oh, not forgetting a couple of plates and cutlery, of course). There was no fridge.
We used to get our breakfast each morning. It was left hanging outside on the door handle. A bag, containing a few bread rolls, butter, sugar, tea bags, milk and a couple of sachets of coffee.
That wasn't too bad though, as Messonghi Village is full...

Corfu Chandris Hotel, Dassia Corfu
Advantages: wonderful hotel
Disadvantages: drinks cheaper at pubs over the road.
...complimentary smellies and hairdryer.
Most rooms had excellent views and ours overlooked the pool and had seaview. entertainment in the evening was a bit hit and miss, but not bad.
Food in the restaurant was excellent and varied every day.
Hotel had free bus into corfu town.
The lobby in the hotel is very impressive with restaurant overlooking the sea.
They also had at this hotel along with the pool an out-door whirl pool and splash pool for children.
Loungers and umbrellas are limited but you can go on the beach, but you are charged I think 5 euros a day for both items, this is where we spent most of our time.
There is also a bar and restaurant down on the beach, you must try the doughnuts from the beach they are too die-for and massive (enough for 2, if you're generous!!)
Corfu Chandris as a gym, steam room and jaccuzi...

The island of Corfu
Advantages: Nice island
Disadvantages: not in Swptember
...I visited the little Island of Corfu in September 1998 and was left with mixed feelings.
I have visited several Greek Islands and This ranks lowest on my list.
I stayed in the resort village of Kassiopi which is about an hour on a coach from the Airport at Corfu Town.
Its a coastal fishing village by trade and sits near the north East Tip of the Island.
You can see Albania just across the water only 6 miles away.
To the North Coast are the quiet beach resorts of Sidari and Roda.
This is for the easy going beach holiday types that want nothing more than to Lie on a beach all week.
If you expect anything else you will be dissapointed as there is very little else.
If its fun and excitement you want, You need to be in the south part of the Island.
The party capital of the island is Kavos.
Kavos holds all of the bars...

Corfu Brilliant
Advantages: Warm to Hot Great People Beautiful place
Disadvantages: none that i could find
...Ah Corfu, I love the place, but then i must do i got married there! You can not beat Greece for the welcoming locals can you.
We've been many times and have seen some of the small places change of over the years. We first went to Sidari in 2003, then it was much quiter than it is now. You had a good mix of ages and the most perfect beach, unless you were by canal d'amour. It is a good base to travel out from. We liked it so much we went back there in 2004 with my two lads, so they could help us celebrate out marriage in Corfu Town Hall. It was a wonderful day and the locals treated us like we were king and queen, fabulous memories.
We then returned in 2006 for a weeks break and stayed in Roda, which is much quieter, but none the less great for the week, again the locals were very welcoming and helpful. We travelled up to...
