...Corsica is a beautiful island of the Mediterranean coast of France. The island offers sandy beaches, rugged coasts, mountains, wild countryside, fascinating towns and villages. Package tours have hardly touched the place, but it is a favourite destination for the French, Italians and Germans and it's easy to see why. The climate is similar to southern France; if you want cooler times try spring or autumn. Main towns are Ajaccio (birthplace of Napoleon), Calvi (reputed birthplace of Columbus) and Bastia. Each has an international airport and ferry harbours linking to France and Italy. Prettiest area, in my opinion, is around Calvi, itself a picturesque harbour, but wherever you go the scenery is superb. Food is excellent, part French, part Italian but clearly Corsican. THE Best Rally Game Ever

Advantages: Good Graphics + Sound. Realistic Co-Driver. Out on Budget
Disadvantages: Driving school is a lot worse than it could have been

...Colin McRae Rally is one of the best racing games I have ever played, and now particularly it is on budget at a very reasonable price I would urge anyone who is slightly interested in motor sport or any racing related computer games to get out and buy it! Before you feel like trying to mix with the big boys for real in the rally championship why not try a course at Colin's Rally school? This could have been done better, but you can get the basics like hand break turns done to perfection. Still nothing beats racing for real and the school if truth were told is pretty lame. There are a total of 56 tracks spread through actual countries in the world rally championship, including Australian, Monte Carlo, New Zealand, Greece, Corsica, UK, Indonesia and Sweden. TROPICAL ISLE IN THE MED by Joanne Jo Fox

Advantages: Amazing turquoise blue ocean, wonderful food, history, architecture GELATO!
Disadvantages: Drivers have it in for pedestrians! Construction on the seafront

...We needed sunshine and Ryan Air had VERY cheap airfares from the UK to Sardinia. Good question: where IS Sardinia (Answer: 10 miles from Corsica. And where is that? Answer: to the Left of Italy!) When we arrived, we first tried to find the bus that was to take us to the city centre (reminds me of John Lennon's nearsightedness: "What Bus?"). This is when we KNEW we had not studied the Italian language CD's enough! But everyone understood the word "taxi", so got in a queue/lined up for the next one... and waited... and waited. Finally a rather small cab turned up and we squished ourselves and luggage inside. (I had been warned that you can end up waiting ages for your luggage when you return to England on Ryan air, so opted for carry-ons only). So off we went - zoom! ZOOM! - beware the way they drive! Cruising On The Cheap

Advantages: Doesn't cost the earth, varied itinerary. Plenty to eat.
Disadvantages: Feels a bit like an up-market & mobile Butlins

...Like "JONYEE" who has also written about a similar cruise, I feel that at least one cruise is something you need to get out of your system. I would recommend an Airtours Cruise to anyone who isn't sure whether cruising is for them - that way they don't spend a king's ransom on something that turns out to be not to their taste. The Airtours Med cruises are centred around Palma in Mallorca. They can either be combined with a stay on the island, or taken alone. We opted for the former, since it cost hardly any more. The ship itself was a refurbished ex-Caribbean liner, hence the lower prices. The itinerary was demanding, with a full day somewhere different almost every day. However, in our case, the first leg involved 36 hours at sea to get to Ajaccio in Corsica. The journey was very boring, since I didn't want to sun-bathe, gamble...

Advantages: Easy to get to, cheap flights from Stansted and Dublin
Disadvantages: Very limited facilities

.... Ryanair is not the only airline serving this airport, as Corsica Tours provide a weekly service to this Mediterranean island from May to September. Various tour operators also offer charter flights to a range of beach destinations from Tours throughout the summer months. The airport itself is extremely easy to reach by road, as it is located just 10 minutes' drive from exit 20 on the A10 motorway, just to the north of the city. It is very well signposted from the motorway and also if driving from the city centre or the surrounding area. There is no railways station at the airport itself but there is a reasonably-priced shuttle bus service that is timed to coincide with the Ryanair arrivals and departures. This bus runs from the central bus station to the airport, leaving the centre of town two hours before the scheduled departure time...
