Perched on a hillside high above the historic fishing port of Palamos, El Mirador (which translates as 'the Lookout' in Spanish) commands spectacular, panoramic vistas along the coastline and across the fringes of the beautiful Costa Brava. We had driven southwards from Girona, towards Palamos, then Calonge. At this point, the crumpled, supplied directions from the owner were tugged out, and we had pressed on. El Mirador, it seemed, was up there on the hill, at the very edge of Calonge. The road wound its way through a fairly modern development, a slightly confused melange of poorly signposted streets, each street lined with new, look-a-like villas, and each villa as attractively bland and featureless as the next. L'Estartit, Costa Brava

Advantages: Wonderful beach, small town which hasn't been overdeveloped and still retains it's fishing village charm
Disadvantages: Only one road into resort which gets extremely busy during high season, town centre can be noisy late at night in high season

...L'Estartit started out as a small fishing village, located on the Costa Brava in the Gerona region of Catalunya. Today it is a great resort for the tourist, offering a wide range of accomodation, bars, restaurants and a wonderful beach, without ruining the atmosphere of a small seaside town. The town is located at the foot of a small mountain, known as the Rocamaura, and this gives the town a great deal of natural beauty from wherever in town you happen to be. The side of the mountain is covered in trees, with a rock peak: and there are villas located on it. You can walk up and have a stroll around the inhabited part of the mountain either by a huge flight of steps, or via a couple of roads just off the Santa Ana street, or by the road near Castell Montgri campsite. It's a good walk for a morning stroll if you're feeling energetic...

Costa Brava

Advantages: Not too crowded, good accommodation, good weather, Spanish culture
Disadvantages: Barcelona's traffic, lack of genuine sandy beaches

...In July 2000, I spent two weeks in the resort of Tamariu, about 100km north of Barcelona on the Costa Brava. After an early start - 3.30 in the morning, we flew British Airways from Heathrow to Barcelona. When we arrived at Barcelona, the car hire process was long and having to stand in a queue for an hour was frustating. The problems outside were worse however, Barcelona being one of the most confusing cities i've ever been to, but still, i liked the place. When we finally arrived in Tamariu, I was fairly impressed with the apartments, after being used to 1 bedroom apartments, this was a new experience, the apartments Sol Pin, used by The Travel Club of Upminster in Britain each had 2 bedrooms, a 2 toilets and a seperate living area. Costa Brava costs less

Advantages: Cheap and cheerfull, with loadsa sunshine

...Well what can i say, its so good i'm already booked and waiting to go back again soon. I found the Costa Brava a very friendly and welcoming place to visit. I stayed at Calella, but along the coast line you will find, Tossa del mar,Llorett de mar,Malgrat de Mar,Santa Sussanah and Pineda, all these towns are within a few minutes train ride away, they are even linked by a small land train service, which only costs a couple of Euro's for the return tickets, this way also enables you to take an extensive tour of the towns and discover what each has on offer. There is an outside market every day in the towns, your Hotel etc will happily supply you with the information on which market, day and town.These markets are full of all the usual knock of versions of top named brand goods, for example Doulcie and Gabbana belts for 10 euro's, come...

Girona Airport- still another hour to Barcelona!

Advantages: Could get cheap flights here, clean and well-run
Disadvantages: Not really Barcelona as it is billed, lack of seating

...Cheeky Ryanair! Although they do fly to the city of Barcelona, they bill their flights to Girona as "Girona (Barcelona)" even though it is more than an hour's drive down the motorway to the larger city. Just as well my flights were cheap as the return coach fare to Barcelona costs Euro12 per adult single and Euro21 return. Girona Airport is situated 103 Kilometres north of Barcelona (approximately 64 miles). In fact, the airport bills itself as "Girona - Costa Brava" and, indeed, many of the passengers on our flight did not board the coach to Barcelona but appeared to be picking up hire cars to head for resorts on the coast. Against my expectations - a great holiday!

Advantages: Great nightlife, many young people from other countries, loved the beach & the sea
Disadvantages: Beach can be overcrowded, obtrusive sales people

...Lloret de Mar is a town with 36.000 inhabitants, located in the region of Catalonia at the Costa Brava, about 80 km away from Barcelona. I just came back from Lloret de Mar last week. I went there with around 20 people from my former class (we just finished school this year) and we really enjoyed our stay a lot. I was surprised to see a lot of families there, as Lloret is known to be a party location for young people all over the world. Hotel We stayed at the Hotel Sunrise, which is located up a hill at the north of Lloret. We had booked all inclusive, which I would definitely recommend to anybody, you get alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for free all day from 11 o'clock in the morning until 11 o'clock in the evening and you can also get snacks from 12 until 2 o'clock. Review of Lloret De Mar, Costa Brava

Coastline Holiday Resort

Advantages: Plenty to see and do. Lots of nighlife. Some good walks. Nice clean beach. Good selection of restaurants.
Disadvantages: Can get a little noisy. Beach can become over-crowded. Too many street sellers that wont take no for an answer.
