Benalmadena the Costa del Sol
Advantages: Friendly town with lots to do, a lovely holiday.
Disadvantages: If you steer clear of the 'English Bars' there are none
...COSTA DEL SOL
Benalmadea Costa,
I'm afraid I was always a bit of a 'travel snob' regarding the Costa del Sol. I envisaged the types of scene in TV's Benadorm, a type of Blackpool with sun.
As members of a vacation club ( it was then Sunterra now Diamon Resorts) we had the opportunity for a weeks break for relatively few points at the Sahara Sunset in Benalmadea Costa, as we could get Easy Jet airfairs to Malaga for a very low price we decided to try it.
We have been three times more since then - so needless to say I was not disappointed.
Benalmadena is only 15 kilometers from Malaga Airport, car hire is easily obtainable but it is only 25 euros for a taxi from the airport and there are plenty of excursions and good public transport available in the resort. It is set on the Costa del Sol between...

hotel sol principe is fit for a king.
Advantages: everything about the place is an advantage.
Disadvantages: the non smoking policy (for some)
...There is also a coach available from right outside the hotel which will take you on the coastal tour along the very impressive Costa del Sol front. Most of the attractions and coach tours can be booked from within the hotel but you can also just go to the bus stop spur of the moment and catch the coach and pay at the doors of all these attractions.
Back to the hotel itself and on to the cost. Obviously I booked this as most people would as a package holiday; it was booked through Thomas cook and cost £725 all inclusive per adult for a fortnight. That was the cost the last time I visited which was just over 2 years ago now, whilst not the cheapest holiday available it was no where near the most expensive and was worth every penny in my view.
Torremolinos is a beautiful place but I have heard many a nightmare story of accommodations...

Costa Del Sol
Advantages: Cheap loads of sun
Disadvantages: Too much english
...I have lived in Costa Del Sol for about a year and half and just returned home to the uk four weeks ago.One thing good about southern Spain is that there's plenty of sun all year round even in the winter its nothing like the UK it's sill quite warm.
There are plenty and plenty of English, Irish and Welsh bars out there which to me it was a bit too much and that's one thing that I didn't like in southern Spain due to its very English.
Shopping
I was situated just outside Torremolinos it's about half an hour from Fungerola which has Marks and Spencer and a very big shopping mall there.
Malaga is just half an hour way as well, in the central train station there is a shopping mall with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Night Life
Benelemedena has a 24hour even thou the pubs and clubs are not open 24h most of the clubs are...

Holiday Village-Benalmadena, Costa Del Sol
Advantages: Good for Children
Disadvantages: Too far from resorts
...Holiday Village,Benalmadena-Costa del sol,
stayed 2 weeks from 14 july 2007
Flight
2 and a half hours with First Choice was short and on time so really good as I hate flying!!
Transfer
From Malaga airport it takes about half an hour to transfer to the hotel, it is on the outskirts of Benalmadena.
Check-in
If you fill out the registration form on your transfer it is quick and easy. The staff were curtious and pleasant at all times.
Hotel set half way between Benalmadena and Fuengirola and not good for a stroll into either, its too far from both ,catch a bus!
The Living Room
Well this was my first let-down, as before we went away we had heard there was building work going on at the back of the hotel and also at the beach club where most of the pools are located. Hearing this I called into to my First Choice shop to...

Benalmadena - Costa Del Sol
Advantages: Plenty to do
Disadvantages: Noisy traffic
...I?ve just returned from a one-week holiday in Benalmadena in Costa Del Sol (June 2004) and would like to provide some information about Benalmadena Resort & Benalmadena Palace Apartments where we stayed.
****Benalmadena Palace Apartments****
Newly opened in February 2004, this Apart-Hotel has 4-Star rating.
The coach transfer from Malaga Airport to the Hotel was only about 30 minutes and that included a drop off a one other hotel first. Facilities include Outdoors Pool & Children?s pool, Indoor Pool and Jacuzzi, Sauna, Games Rooms, Table Tennis, Gym (Which was well equipped) Pool Table. Bar. Children?s play area, Mini-Golf (although there were only 5 holes!) Cyber café.
Some facilities were still being implemented, I don?t think the mini-golf was properly finished, and also Tennis Courts & 5-a-side football pitch were still under...

COSTA del CRANE
Advantages: Sunshine
Disadvantages: Feels like England
...When I was offered a week of Spain I jumped at the chance! Club La Costa was offering a week at California Beach, near Finguerola for only 29 pounds plus airfare to Malaga. We knew that it was early in the season but figured we would take the chance and beat the crowds.
Club La Costa is a large development about 30 mins from Malaga airport. You can take a Tiny Train between the Two main parts of the resort: Marina del Sol and California Beach (or as we learned, smile sweetly at any of the porters and they will drive you there!).
In this part of Spain it is low season until June 1.
So the restaurants and bars at the resort closed promptly at midnight - not at all like the Spain I had heard of where you eat late.
Eventhough you have the main pool to yourself, this is for a VERY good reason... it is NOT HEATED. There is...

Costa del Sol
Advantages: Friendly people, beautiful scenery, caters for all
Disadvantages: Driving in towns if you are not used to driving abroad
...Only a 2 hour plane journey from London to Malaga, and you are in a different world. A great place to start out, if you have never been abroad before, and still a great place if you have. Catering for all tastes from the up-market Peurto Banus, a great place for seeing how the other half live, with yachts that cost 3 times as much as an average house.Definately a place to browse the shops and day dream. Along the coast to Torremolinos and Feungirola with their mish mash of British, Spanish and multi cultural bars and restaurants. All are reasonably priced
with a fried breakfast from £3 to a full 3 course meal from £5 per person.
Drinks are also reasonably priced, however there are no legal measures so if you ask for a short you will get 3 times as much as you do in the Uk.
If you fancy seeing a more traditional town, try Mijas about...

How to get the best from the Costa del Sol
Advantages: lots to see and do, cheap flights
Disadvantages: many tacky bits
...The Costa del Sol probably has the worst reputation of any major European holiday destination. I live here and, well yes, that reputation is justified to an extent(see Bravo TV's Costa del Dosh for some examples). It is possible to have a great holiday here though even if you're not a lager lout/sex tourist/criminal and even if you don't like lying on the beach (as I don't) so here are a few ideas.
1. Places to avoid
Well I'll start with the worst bits shall I? There are one or two large towns on the Costa del Sol that are ugly and generally characterless. In particular I'd avoid Fuengirola and Benalmadena for these reasons, but even then they have their good points. It's possible to walk for over a mile in Benalmadena without seeing a Spanish person (but I think that, sadly, may be the point for some British tourists), but it...

Nerja - The Jewel of the Costa del Sol
Advantages: Unspoiled with an authentic Spanish feel
Disadvantages: Some of the apartments are situated up steep hills
...with the place and I would recommend it heartily to anyone who wants a Costa holiday with much more charm than some of the brasher resorts. The locals say that Nerja is truly magical and draws people back there year after year. I can only speak from experience and that is certainly what has happened to me....

Sol Timor Hotel - Great Location and Great Value
Advantages: Location, Price, Staff
Disadvantages: Not the height of luxury
...I've been to this hotel countless times over the years, both with family and with my partner and would go back every time. The staff are great, the acommodation is great and the facilities are great. But the major selling point for me is the location - a stones throw away from the beach, a leisurely walk to the lively and picturesque Benalmadena Marina and a (sometimes slightly death-defying!) 15 minute journey from the airport.
-Booking It-
Originally, my parents took me and my sister here about ten years ago and they booked it through a package company, but with the vast number of low-cost airlines now regularly flying in to Malaga airport, it now makes more sense to book it independently. This couldn't be easier - simply log on to the Sol Melia (the international hotel chain) website - www.solmelia.com - and see how easy it is...
