Benalmadena the Costa del Sol

Advantages: Friendly town with lots to do, a lovely holiday.
Disadvantages: If you steer clear of the 'English Bars' there are none

...COSTA DEL SOL Benalmadea Costa, I'm afraid I was always a bit of a 'travel snob' regarding the Costa del Sol. I envisaged the types of scene in TV's Benadorm, a type of Blackpool with sun. As members of a vacation club ( it was then Sunterra now Diamon Resorts) we had the opportunity for a weeks break for relatively few points at the Sahara Sunset in Benalmadea Costa, as we could get Easy Jet airfairs to Malaga for a very low price we decided to try it. We have been three times more since then - so needless to say I was not disappointed. Benalmadena is only 15 kilometers from Malaga Airport, car hire is easily obtainable but it is only 25 euros for a taxi from the airport and there are plenty of excursions and good public transport available in the resort. It is set on the Costa del Sol between...

Benalmadena - Costa Del Sol

Advantages: Plenty to do
Disadvantages: Noisy traffic

...I?ve just returned from a one-week holiday in Benalmadena in Costa Del Sol (June 2004) and would like to provide some information about Benalmadena Resort & Benalmadena Palace Apartments where we stayed. ****Benalmadena Palace Apartments**** Newly opened in February 2004, this Apart-Hotel has 4-Star rating. The coach transfer from Malaga Airport to the Hotel was only about 30 minutes and that included a drop off a one other hotel first. Facilities include Outdoors Pool & Children?s pool, Indoor Pool and Jacuzzi, Sauna, Games Rooms, Table Tennis, Gym (Which was well equipped) Pool Table. Bar. Children?s play area, Mini-Golf (although there were only 5 holes!) Cyber café. Some facilities were still being implemented, I don?t think the mini-golf was properly finished, and also Tennis Courts & 5-a-side football pitch were still under...

Costa Del Sol

Advantages: Cheap loads of sun
Disadvantages: Too much english

...I have lived in Costa Del Sol for about a year and half and just returned home to the uk four weeks ago.One thing good about southern Spain is that there's plenty of sun all year round even in the winter its nothing like the UK it's sill quite warm. There are plenty and plenty of English, Irish and Welsh bars out there which to me it was a bit too much and that's one thing that I didn't like in southern Spain due to its very English. Shopping I was situated just outside Torremolinos it's about half an hour from Fungerola which has Marks and Spencer and a very big shopping mall there. Malaga is just half an hour way as well, in the central train station there is a shopping mall with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. Night Life Benelemedena has a 24hour even thou the pubs and clubs are not open 24h most of the clubs are...

Holiday Village-Benalmadena, Costa Del Sol

Advantages: Good for Children
Disadvantages: Too far from resorts

...Holiday Village,Benalmadena-Costa del sol, stayed 2 weeks from 14 july 2007 Flight 2 and a half hours with First Choice was short and on time so really good as I hate flying!! Transfer From Malaga airport it takes about half an hour to transfer to the hotel, it is on the outskirts of Benalmadena. Check-in If you fill out the registration form on your transfer it is quick and easy. The staff were curtious and pleasant at all times. Hotel set half way between Benalmadena and Fuengirola and not good for a stroll into either, its too far from both ,catch a bus! The Living Room Well this was my first let-down, as before we went away we had heard there was building work going on at the back of the hotel and also at the beach club where most of the pools are located. Hearing this I called into to my First Choice shop to...

Review of Holiday Village Benalmadena, Costa Del Sol

How to get the best from the Costa del Sol

Advantages: lots to see and do, cheap flights
Disadvantages: many tacky bits

...The Costa del Sol probably has the worst reputation of any major European holiday destination. I live here and, well yes, that reputation is justified to an extent(see Bravo TV's Costa del Dosh for some examples). It is possible to have a great holiday here though even if you're not a lager lout/sex tourist/criminal and even if you don't like lying on the beach (as I don't) so here are a few ideas. 1. Places to avoid Well I'll start with the worst bits shall I? There are one or two large towns on the Costa del Sol that are ugly and generally characterless. In particular I'd avoid Fuengirola and Benalmadena for these reasons, but even then they have their good points. It's possible to walk for over a mile in Benalmadena without seeing a Spanish person (but I think that, sadly, may be the point for some British tourists), but it...

Review of Costa del Sol (Spain)

hotel sol principe is fit for a king.

Advantages: everything about the place is an advantage.
Disadvantages: the non smoking policy (for some)

...There is also a coach available from right outside the hotel which will take you on the coastal tour along the very impressive Costa del Sol front. Most of the attractions and coach tours can be booked from within the hotel but you can also just go to the bus stop spur of the moment and catch the coach and pay at the doors of all these attractions. Back to the hotel itself and on to the cost. Obviously I booked this as most people would as a package holiday; it was booked through Thomas cook and cost £725 all inclusive per adult for a fortnight. That was the cost the last time I visited which was just over 2 years ago now, whilst not the cheapest holiday available it was no where near the most expensive and was worth every penny in my view. Torremolinos is a beautiful place but I have heard many a nightmare story of accommodations...

COSTA del CRANE

Advantages: Sunshine
Disadvantages: Feels like England

...Morocco. I had not realized how close the Costa del Sol was to Gilbraltar and to Africa. Just a short, fast-ferry ride across the Straights and voila! The day we went was a holy day - the Prophet's birthday. Our Moroccan guide said he wasnt sure if the market would be open - which of course it was not. So we were taken to an empty road, with bits of rubbish left over. Then we went to Tetouan, to see the Medina, which were a series of narrow alley ways, with different stalls selling everything from tea kettles to strawberries and animal parts, and you had to watch where you stepped! The best thing about the trip was lunch in a converted Palace with musicians and dancers and couscous with mint tea. We walked past the local Palace and to the top of a building where had a great view of the town. And finally we were escorted into small...

Costa del Sol

Advantages: Friendly people, beautiful scenery, caters for all
Disadvantages: Driving in towns if you are not used to driving abroad

...15 minutes drive from Feungirola. Mijas has a bull ring and to cater for the more sensitive of us, perform with no blood sport. Also there are donkey and pony rides and above all the views are spectacular from the mountains down to the coast. Mijas has good shops, with the best buys being leather and lacework. One word of warning though, the paths are very hilly, and there are lots of steps and can be hard work. The Spanish are a lovely people and very patient, so waiting for a meal takes longer than here. However you will never feel rushed into leaving after your meal. The shops shut between 2pm and 5pm for siesta, and as the sun gets very hot during the summer months, it's a nice time to sit back and relax on the beach or in a bar. Driving in Spain can take some getting used to, especially in towns. Be aware of the traffic lights as...

Nerja - The Jewel of the Costa del Sol

Advantages: Unspoiled with an authentic Spanish feel
Disadvantages: Some of the apartments are situated up steep hills

.... Try the Andalucian chicken with Poor Man's Potatoes. Also on Burriana beach is an Internet Café, a first-aid post and if you are up early you may see the fishing boats coming in. The beach is again coarse sand. Here there are pedaloes available for hire and a couple of scuba diving centres for those who would like to try there hand at diving. In high summer, many watersports are available. The town of Nerja has everything you could ever wish for, there are even a few night bars and nightclubs for the insomniacs amongst you. Do be careful when walking in some of the narrower streets as they can be a little uneven and accidents can happen. I have stayed both in hotels and in self-catering accommodation and have never been disappointed. The general standard of accommodation is high. In case you haven't guessed, I am in love...

Review of Costa del Sol (Spain)

The best beaches in the world, ermmm, YEAH

Advantages: Hot and sunny, some interesting places
Disadvantages: average beaches, general lack of anything spanish

...At first sight, its very difficult to believe why the Costa del Sol has become Britain’s, and Europe’s favourite holiday destination. The beaches are terrible, grey, the sea is cold, quickly shelving and has a stony bed (at all the beaches we went to anyway), and the beaches are hardly clean at all. They were also almost completely empty! Despite this, this was one of the best holidays we’ve ever had. But starting off where it all began, we chose the Costa del Sol after last years disastrous holiday in the Alps. Now the French Alps are a very nice place, but it rained EVERY day. The Costa del Sol is almost exactly the opposite, and true to form, it was hot and sunny, EVERY day. We also chose a villa this time through Meon Villas, because we decided, if we’re going to go to Europe’s busiest tourist...
