Cotswold On The Cheap!
Advantages: Loads of animals, cheap, they are involved in conservation projects
Disadvantages: Dosg are not allowed in all section
...I recently had a week away in Gloucestershire with my best friend and our dogs. We stayed in a little cottage and planned to see as many attractions as we could in a week. While looking though a brochure of all the local attractions, I spotted one called Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens and was really pleased to see that we were allowed to take the dogs with us for a day out.
History
In 1923 the Manor House and Estate (that is now the park) were purchased by Colonel Heyworth-Savage and when he died in 1948, the estate was passed to his grandson John Heyworth who is the current owner. In 1969, he decided to open the gardens to the public. The Victorian Manor House that dominates the park is a listed building.
Cotswold Wildlife Park is set in 160 acres of gardens and houses an amazing collection of birds, reptiles and mammals...

Conferencing in the Cotswolds
Advantages: Modern, new, good condition, large rooms, excellent conference organisation
Disadvantages: It does not have the character of some Cotswolds properties.
...Last month I decided that it would be a good idea to take some training courses in order to demonstrate that I was being a good accountant and keeping up with my "Continuing Professional Development". Something we accountants have to do. A few hours later I was booked on a two and a half day residential course which was to be held in the Cotswold Water Park Hotel, part of the Four Pillars Hotel chain.
Booking
My hotel accommodation was booked by the course organisers and included in the course fee paid. However I decided to arrive the day before in order to avoid a very early start on the first morning of the course. The hotel website was offering rooms for £80 a night but before booking I called to see if there was a better delegate rate available. I was surprised to find that delegates were being offered additional nights...

Go wild in the Cotswolds
Advantages: Saving Endangered Animals
Disadvantages: No Local Transport
...During that last half term I took my children to the Cotswold Wildlife park and Gardens, I have been there on quiet a few occasions and thoroughly enjoy the experience every time.
A little bit of history about the park
It first opened in 1970 by John Heyworth, which has now been taken over by his son Reggie Heyworth.
The Manor House was built in1804.
Parts of the house are now open to visitors.
The park does not receive money from any where else but from their visitors.
The prices are £9.50 for adults
£7.00 for children between the ages of 3 to 16 years
£7.00 for senior citizens aged 65 and over
Children under 3 go for free.
Upon arriving at the park you drive up a long drive to the kiosk, then you are directed round to the left to park on grass, coaches and disabled people are directed to the right where it is nearer...

The Glorious Cotswolds
Advantages: Sheer beauty. Mellow stone buildings. Rustic nature
Disadvantages: High prices, Can get crowded
...The Cotswolds are truly one of the glories of England. The area which straddles part of Oxfordshire,Gloucester and Wiltshire,is an absolute delight for the eye. The rolling countryside is a joy,the architecture little short of stunning, and the Cotswolds a traditional part of the country that native Englishmen, exiles and foreign visitors end up usually adoring.
Some of England's most beautiful villages are in the Cotswolds. They include the delightful Bibury,Upper and Lower Slaughter, then there are the small towns such as the gorgeous Bourton-on-the-Water,Stow-on-the-Wold and Cirencester,a historic place that some observors consider is the "Capital of the Cotswolds"
It is a rural, bucolic, region, and the main man made attractions ,apart from the towns and villages, tend to be rural in nature such as wild life sanctuaries...

The Cotswold Company (not recommended)
Advantages: Lovely furniture
Disadvantages: Worst customer service I've ever experienced
...I have experienced horrendous service levels from The Cotswold Company and would NEVER recommend them to anyone, or indeed use them myself again.
On 1st December I ordered two drawer units, two bedside cabinets (both on a 14 day delivery date) and a storage box (in stock). I have now received several letters putting the delivery back, and back again. It is now the end of February and three months since my order and I cannot get a coherent answer from any of the staff.
Delivery was finally scheduled for last Friday and I took the day off work. Two days before, I phoned to double-check delivery as my past experience did make me question the reliability of the communication, however I was assured that all was on track and would definitely be delivered on Friday.
Needless to say... Friday came and no delivery! When I phoned at the end...

Cotswold morris
Advantages: Great fun, great company and good exercise too
Disadvantages: Sometimes they sing
..."Costwold Morris"
The stereotypical image of a morris dancer is a middle aged to elderly man, probably with a beer gut, dressed all in white, waving hankies and jingling to the tune of a concertina. If this is your view of morris men, stop! You need to be more specific. What you see before you is a cotswold morris dancer. Let us examine him more closely and, most importantly, more accurately.
Your cotswold dancer need not be old; the youngest one in the team which I "'follow', for want of a better word, is 11, and the team has eight or more members under the age of 35. They even have a following of teenage girls. So your dancer may be young or old; let's say for the moment that he is in his twenties. He probably drinks, this is almost universal, but there are exceptions. He may be tall or short, fat or thin, but if he's any good he...

Wonderful Woodchester
Advantages: Beautiful walks, cheap, well set out
Disadvantages: Can only visit Mansion on set days
...Last month, myself and my best friend spent a week in the Cotswold with our dogs. The main idea of the break was to just chill out and have lots of walks in the countryside with the dogs. On our first day there, we set up the sat nav and asked it to show us all the tourist attractions within 30 miles. Woodchester Park was one of the first attractions to come up and we were pleased to see that it was only 7 miles away from where we were staying.
Woodchester Park
Woodchester Park is situated in a stunning secluded valley near Stroud in the Cotswolds. In the valley are the remains of an 18th and 19th century Landscape Park, a mansion and a chain of five lakes surrounded by woodland and lots of green fields.
Much of Woodchester Park is owned by the National Trust since they bought it back in 1994 with the intention of protecting...

A real gem in the heart of the Cotswolds
Advantages: Delightful old hotel, friendly staff, reasonable prices, great food
Disadvantages: None at all
...In June, it was my girlfriends 21st birthday, and I decided there would be nothing nicer than taking her away for the weekend. The trouble was that by the time I had decided this, and checked with her whether she would be around that weekend, it was leaving it a bit late to book somewhere. The hardest thing was I didn't have a clue where to take her. I wanted somewhere romantic, quiet and in the countryside where we could do quite a bit of walking as this is something we both love. I had heard about the Cotswolds before and had understood that it was a nice area with lots of little villages, so I decided that it might be nice to try and arrange to go there for the weekend, as neither myself or my girlfriend had been there before.
I looked up a website all about the cotswolds and it had a massive list of all the villages that can be...

My Big Fat Cotswold Wedding
Advantages: Excellent food and accommodation, Beautiful setting, Good service
Disadvantages: Driving up the hill to reach it!
...facilities for the small wedding we wanted, or by charging very large fees to hire the venue. Our searches did reveal one small chain of hotels that looked promising, however: Cotswold Inns and Hotels, a group of seven individual country house hotels distributed around the Cotswolds that attempted to capture the charm of the area whilst being warm, relaxed, friendly and inviting. Each of the hotels has its own style and quirkiness, and from the photos we looked at online, more than one offered the romantic settings and small venues we had thus far struggled to find together ? and better still, each had a clear and well presented wedding brochure available online so we could see exactly what was on offer at each venue. This allowed to pick the two hotels in the chain that appeared to be best suited to our needs, and take it from me, both were...

The Captivating Cotswolds
Advantages: Good vlaue and fantastic location
Disadvantages: Room can be a long way from the facilities
...It was half term and my girlfriend and her sister's birthdays, so it was suggested that we went away for the weekend. A hotel in the Cotswolds was chosen, Tortworth Court www.four-pillars.co.uk/tortworth/
++++++++++Booking++++++++++
The stay was booked through the Four Pillars reservations line on 0800-374692 this was quite a painless process. All that was required was a credit or debit card to secure the reservation, a booking reference was issued. The price was very good value at £49 per person per night for a double room with dinner, and breakfast included.
The hotel is part of the a small chain called Four Pillars www.four-pillars.co.uk , the chain has all its hotels based in the Cotswolds. Booking can be made through their website but you are more likely to get a good deal by calling them on the above number. The deal...
