Why dentists hate Antrim

Advantages: An accessible and relaxed coast, with a winning combination of attractive towns and stunning scenery
Disadvantages: Inland, Antrim has less to offer the visitor

...We stayed in Portstewart, which is just in Co.Derry rather than Co.Antrim, but our holiday still turned out to be an Antrim experience. Three towns, Portstewart, Portrush and Coleraine, nestle in a convenient triangular arrangement on in the middle of the north coast of Northern Ireland, bisecting by the border between the two counties. It’s amazing how often a plebeian resort has a more genteel neighbour. That’s certainly the case with the two coastal resorts, sedate Portstewart and brash, bustling Portrush, a kind of junior Blackpool. Coleraine sits inland from the two towns and is less of a tourist attraction than a retail and commercial centre, complete with its own University. Portstewart or Portrush would make ideal places to stay, for car drivers and non-drivers alike. We made good use of the 218 bus, which...

Be Careful Not To Wake Finn MacCool

Advantages: Spectacular natural structure
Disadvantages: Cold, wet and windy iost of the time

...The Giant's Causeway is a must if you are sightseeing in Northern Island. It is an amazing natural stone walkway which stretches out into sea. It is world famous as County Antrim's 'wonder of the world' and although similar structures to this can be found off the coast of Scotland (Fingal's Cave) and in Iceland, this one is the most striking and awesome spectacle of them all. All around you is the wild and windy Atlantic Ocean, off the coastline of County Antrim. The Causeway itself looks like a stack of huge squared off blocks, all on top of each other. The fabulous colours of the rock range from bronze and red, to dark grey depending on the light and the weather. It is made up of more than 40,000 closely packed basalt columns. Some of these are as much as 90 feet thick. The highest columns reach about 40 feet...

Striding in the Steps of Giants

Advantages: Dramatic views clothed in the mysteries of both legend and science
Disadvantages: Access for the handicapped is necessarily restricted

...contest with another giant, the mighty Benandonner (whose name is also subject to variations in spelling), who lived across the Irish Sea in Scotland. The two giants challenged one another to a contest of strength, and Finn set about building a great causeway that would allow Benandonner to cross from his liar in Fingel's Cave to the beautiful shores of County Antrim without getting his feet wet. As this version of the legend maintains, late one evening the tired Finn, having nearly completed his work on the causeway, broke away from his labors and fell into a sound slumber--intending to finish his task the next morning. Meanwhile, Benandonner, a much larger giant with a longer stride, found the nearly completed path and strolled over to fulfill the challenge with his Irish neighbor. Oonagh, Finn's wife, was awakened from her own sleep by...

The Giant's Causeway. Giants v's Geology

Advantages: Stunning scenery; A phenomena you won't see anywhere else
Disadvantages: Er, very tiring.

...Many, many, many years ago (you get the idea), the warrior giant of Ulster, Finn McCool was challenged to a ‘scrap’ with the Scottish giant Benandonnor. In order for Benandonnor to get across, Finn built a highway from Antrim to the Isle of Staffa, Benandonner’s home. One day after the highway was built Benandonner came over to Antrim whilst Finn was asleep. Finn’s wife realised that he was much bigger and stronger than her husband so she cleverly (what else would you expect from a woman) covered Finn with a blanket and a baby’s bonnet. When Benandonner arrived and saw the baby he didn’t stay around to see Finn: if the baby was that big then how big would Finn be! When he went back across to his home on the Isle of Staffa he destroyed the highway in his wake, and today the Giant’s Causeway is...

Dorset County Hospital

Advantages: Friendly, Efficient, Very Clean
Disadvantages: None, apart from waiting time

...I am at present resting at home after an operation on my left shoulder, made necessary after a clumsy fall that compressed the shoulder joint. After a regimen of physiotherapy and steroids it was deemed that an operation called a subacromial decompression was arranged and took place at the orthopaedic unit of the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, Dorset. I was given a choice of three hospitals, in line with the government's policy of offering a choice and I feel that I made the correct decision. The choices on the list were The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital, Poole General Hospital and the Dorset county. Bournemouth was too far away, Poole is not a very nice hospital so I was left with Dorchester . First Impressions Once the appointment for surgery was made I was asked to attend a Anaesthesia Pre...

One of Irelands main attractions

Advantages: It will keep you fit
Disadvantages: You will be very tired at the end of it

...Giant?s causeway is situated on the outskirts of county Antrim just besides the bushmills distillery. A place for those people that like walking for pleasure. While I was over in Ireland we paid this place a visit. On arrival we came to the entrance that was a very nice attraction. Just inside the entrance were a gift shop and a coffee shop where you could get refreshments. Beyond the main entrance was the start of the walk As we were walking we admired this beautiful rocky place and the view was unbelievable too. It took us about six hours to get all a round giants causeway something that I will do again....

Prince Edward County - A slice of Tranquility

Advantages: Peaceful, ecclectic, plenty to do, good weather, nice people, beautiful...
Disadvantages: It isn't close enough to pop back for the weekend

...Prince Edward County is a small County in Ontario, which has managed to remain relatively unscathed by development and urban society, although it is quickly climbing up the property ladder and being seen as a haven away from the day-to-day hustle of big cities like Toronto. The County is an island on Lake Ontario and consists of 10 small towns: Dereronto Picton Ameliasburgh Cherry Valley Milford Bloomfield Wellignton Wapoos Northport Condecon I consider myself to be very fortunate in that my family (parents and brother and his family) have set up home in the County since I moved to Britain and as such, each trip home brings me to this fabulous slice of beauty and tranquility tucked away quietly in a nest of back roads and kind neighbours. What has Prince Edward County got to offer...

County Hall

Advantages: Good price, friendly staff, good location, good meals, quiet
Disadvantages: No wheelchair access at the front

...At the beginning of October 2008 I had to travel to Londn to attend a job interview. I wanted a reasonably priced hotel that was close to my interview location and also that offered good access to some of the London tourist attractions. The Premier Inn County Hall Hotel fit the bill and also delivered so much more. I caught a taxi from the train station and the first thing that I noticed when getting there was that the part of Belvedere Road in which the hotel is situated has barriers at either end so only traffic that has a reason for being there is allowed in...this makes the front of the hotel quieter than most places in London. The building also makes a rather striking impression as it is the listed building which used to hold the GLC. The only problem with this is that the entrance to the hotel is up a short flight of stairs...

County Reflex - It'll Do I suppose.

Advantages: Nice Pick-Up, Decent Middle, Good Value
Disadvantages: Soft-Wearing, Only Lasted 2 Seasons

...I think that it must be something to do with being back in Gloucester (Land of MY fathers) that draws me to writing reviews about things that I spent a vast amount of my childhood playing with or using. Cricket is something that, whilst mentioned on my personal homepage, I play one hell of a lot of. In the 17 years that I have played competitive cricket (Yes, I started when I was 8) I have missed a single season, after university because I couldn't find a team to play for in Rugby where I was living. I'm not a bad cricketer. I played for my county all through growing up, I played for the Leicester University First Team and have played a large amount of high level local cricket, both in Gloucester (1 league below the minor counties) and in Yorkshire (2 leagues below the minor counties). I am a wicketkeeper by trade, was coached...

My day's at County Hall

Advantages: Location, price for location
Disadvantages: No parking, poor views

...At the end of last year i needed to take a business trip to London with my boss, and the company has an account with premier travel inn. So we were booked in to County Hall for 2 nights. First Impression ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On arriving at the Hotel, the location was great, less than 100 yards from the front entrance was the 'London Eye', and everything else the south bank has to offer. Inside the hotel the atmosphere and decor was pleasant, with a few armchairs in the reception area for the weary traveller. Checking in was easy, and we were given our room cards, which were also needed to be able to use the lifts. You couldn't call a lift without swiping your card. Once entering my room, i was happy enough with the room. It of course was 'No Frills', but it was more than comfortable for my purpose. Room ~~~~~ As i have already...
