Prince Edward County - A slice of Tranquility
Review of Prince Edward County, Ontario by
ally2kc
Advantages: Peaceful, ecclectic, plenty to do, good weather, nice people, beautiful...
Disadvantages: It isn't close enough to pop back for the weekend
...Prince Edward County is a small County in Ontario, which has managed to remain relatively unscathed by development and urban society, although it is quickly climbing up the property ladder and being seen as a haven away from the day-to-day hustle of big cities like Toronto.
The County is an island on Lake Ontario and consists of 10 small towns:
Dereronto
Picton
Ameliasburgh
Cherry Valley
Milford
Bloomfield
Wellignton
Wapoos
Northport
Condecon
I consider myself to be very fortunate in that my family (parents and brother and his family) have set up home in the County since I moved to Britain and as such, each trip home brings me to this fabulous slice of beauty and tranquility tucked away quietly in a nest of back roads and kind neighbours.
What has Prince Edward County got to offer...

County Reflex - It'll Do I suppose.
Review of County Reflex by
beevorm
Advantages: Nice Pick-Up, Decent Middle, Good Value
Disadvantages: Soft-Wearing, Only Lasted 2 Seasons
..., although you can just as easily opt for a perfectly round handle. The thickness again is personal choice. I bat with a grip and a half (Which sounds odd, but really means the under grip only comes half way up the handle and there is a full grip over the top of it).
The handle on the Relfex is spliced nicely into the blade, but again this is down to the bat maker, rather than the bat itself, and the job that they have done. Be very wary of any bat where there is obvious twist in the handle and also and gaps or excess glue around the splice.
Stickers and aesthetic appearance on the Reflex are personal choices. By rights, the bat comes with a large county sticker on the reverse showing the stag logo, the name of the bat model and another smaller sticker on the front at the top of the blade. I always choose to have the name of the bat...

Stockport County AFC
Review of Stockport County by
ianbowl
Advantages: Football is the greatest game in the world ever, we're not Manchester United
Disadvantages: We lose more often than we win
...I am a season ticket holder at Stockport County, and the 2000/2001 season has just finished, with County in 19th place. The fact that relegation fears were only averted one weekend before the end of the season might not sound all that good to all you Manchester United fans down there in Taunton and Exeter. In fact, Edgeley Park (home of the County) is only seven miles from your Old Trafford ground. But you didn't know that, did you???
Anyway, to support such a team in the shadow of the two Manchester clubs takes real dedication, and the fact that our average crowd for last season was around 7,000 shows that the majority of the population of Stockport just don't turn out to watch the team. Fair play to them, sometimes County can be quite dire.
Manager Andy Kilner's tactics can be beyond belief, four defenders out of five...

Readers County Supreme
Review of Reader County Supreme by
KPN7
Advantages: Nice for Bowlers
Disadvantages: Terrible for Batters
...For people who dont play or follow cricket, then every cricket ball seems the same. However the truth is that cricket balls are all different which can make a large difference. I personally play at club level and have for many years. We used to be sponsored by a local sports club who manufactured their own cricket balls. Now we are being sponsored by readers and have had a couple hundred of these balls delievered. Firstly these balls are prime A quility leather stained red with gold writing.
As the name of the product suggests these are county sized balls, however I arent sure of the exact measurements and weights of them. The leather is extremely tight and has being ironed out to ensure that it doesnt easily crack or deplete. I personally find these balls helpful for swing bowlers due to the leather composition and the soft cotton...

Derby County, Branko Strupar's team
Review of Derby County by
tsjolder
Advantages: good extra striker: ravanelli
Disadvantages: still maybe not enough quality
...was player of the year.
You see that Branko won in Belgium everything he could win. After several Genk players were sold, also Branko wanted to leave the club, looking for a new adventure, but in the beginning of the season 1999/2000 Genk didn't let hom go. In december 1999 Branko Strupar finally got his transfer to Derby County.
In the mean while Branko received the Belgian nationality. As the Croatian coach never selected him and he felt really at home in Belgium, Branko Strupar got the Belgian nationality in 1999. Almost immedeately Strupar was an international. Probably his best match ever he played in the friendly match against the Netherlands (5-5) in which he scored 2 wonderful goals.
Last season Branko Strupar started very well and scored in every game. Unfortunately he got injured and hardly played a match last year. Now...

Ross County, conquest against all odds!
Review of Ross County by
f1mad_gareth
Advantages: They have true grit and determination in the face of all difficulties
Disadvantages: They are in a terrible location where finance just can not be found
...From the darkest depths of Scottish amateur highland league football, Ross County have moved on to be one of the most successful Scottish teams over the past few years.
First of all I was shocked that I had to go into the division 2 area to find Ross County now that they are well and truly in division 1.
Their route there is nothing short of amazing. Only three years ago they were in the unknown highlands league, the main amateur league in Scotland from which one team is promoted into the third division each year. After winning this league and moving into the professional football scene they could only be expected to languish in the lower regions of the Scottish leagues, but the tiny Ross County certainly had other ideas.
They won promotion convincingly in their first year in Scottish division three which was no mean feat...

Marriott County Hall, London
Review of London Marriott Hotel County Hall, London by
ged1967
Advantages: Central location, friendly attentive staff
Disadvantages: expensive drinks
...& parnips and
banoffee pie to follow. We found the per head price which included half a bottle of pinot grigio was very reasonable compared to prices here in Scotland.
Overall we had no complaints. the only downside was the price of drinks. Two glasses of wine cost almost £15.
I would recomend anyone to use this hotel as a base for a weekend away. It is a two minute walk from Westminster tube, right next door to the BA London Eye and central for everything.
If you are looking for a romantic weekend then the County Hall is the one for you. There is a spa on site to pamper you (payable directly)
Or if you would like a very special wedding or civil partnership then use this hotel. The events team & banqueting manager do everything they can to help and nothing is too much bother.
Whatever you do have a brilliant time at this hotel....

Keep an eye on County Hall
Review of Premier Travel Inn London - County Hall, London by
Tim_74
Advantages: Location and price
Disadvantages: Breakfast not included; views
...The Premier Travel Inn County Hall London is in an ideal location for tourists.
It's right next to the London Eye and the Thames as well as being close to the Houses of Parliament and many other attractions.
We only stayed one night, but the Premier Inn offered just what we were looking for - a cheap stay but in a clean and good quality room and hotel. Our room cost £86.95 for a Saturday night stay in early October.
As well as the bed, the ensuite rooms have a table and easy chairs, space to store your clothes, tea and coffee making facilities and a TV. There is also access to ironing facilities.
Check-in was easy and checking out was also quick and simple.
Although we couldn't get into our room until 2pm, there was no problem with leaving our luggage at the hotel.
Breakfast was not included, but was available at extra cost...

My day's at County Hall
Review of Premier Travel Inn London - County Hall, London by
scarfaceman
Advantages: Location, price for location
Disadvantages: No parking, poor views
...At the end of last year i needed to take a business trip to London with my boss, and the company has an account with premier travel inn. So we were booked in to County Hall for 2 nights.
First Impression
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On arriving at the Hotel, the location was great, less than 100 yards from the front entrance was the 'London Eye', and everything else the south bank has to offer. Inside the hotel the atmosphere and decor was pleasant, with a few armchairs in the reception area for the weary traveller. Checking in was easy, and we were given our room cards, which were also needed to be able to use the lifts. You couldn't call a lift without swiping your card. Once entering my room, i was happy enough with the room. It of course was 'No Frills', but it was more than comfortable for my purpose.
Room
As i have already...
The Harpies of Haycock County
Review of Stories with a twist in the tail by
Martinscholes
Advantages: A sleepy town
Disadvantages: With a hideous secet
...: “Bligh or Blight? A report into the genetically degenerative effects of the Zebulon Bligh ‘unique and important experiment in social living’ and the effects on subsequent generations of the family.”
Apparently the author of the study came back to Haycock County once too often. The people of the town believed that The Harpies of Haycock County dived down from the sky and had eaten him alive. But I didn’t believe that. Not for one moment. I suspected that if anyone had devoured him, it had been the Bligh family, and that his remains would have been buried somewhere up on the ridge of Bligh Farm.
The Harpies of Haycock County? A story that had been used since the early days of the settling of the area. Used to explain all sorts of mysterious events. And to frighten children into being good.
When my truck rattled and bumped up the track...
