Scone Shoes
Advantages: comfortable, better fitting shoes at reasonable prices
Disadvantages: limited range, most of them are quite ugly
...First let me explain ?scone shoes.? When I first ordered shoes from the Shoe Tailor, experts in wider-fitting shoes, I measured my feet incorrectly and found that the only shoes in their catalogue that would fit me were their widest, ugliest, most orthopaedic, brown, granny shoes: the type you might wear to go out with your friends for a scone, in your later years. Hence my friends groaningly called them my ?scone shoes? and walked several yards behind me on the way to the pub every night.
They were very comfy! However, they fell apart after a couple of years of continuous wear, and once gone, same said friends took me shopping to some ?proper? shoe shops in Glasgow and I never once consulted my Shoe Tailor catalogue again.
That was about eight years ago, and although I?m not exactly old and doddery yet, I am finding shoes to be...

Dancing shoes on
Advantages: well thought out characters and a nice story
Disadvantages: likely to make you cry
...I first read Ballet Shoes when I was eight. It was the first of Noel Streatfield's books I'd read, and it remains my favourite. I put it away during my teenage years and forgot about it until Christmas 2007 when I watched the BBC adaptation with Emma Watson.
I went to Indonesia and got the film on knock-off DVD, and immediately after watching I rang home to get my parents to order me a copy. It was a great welcome home.
The book opens with 'Garnie' moving into a huge mansion, filled with fossils. She and her nurse (Nana) are moving in with her uncle. You don't really get any of their story until one day her uncle Matthew arrives home from a trip with a package, containing of all things... a baby! They agree to take the baby and name her Pauline.
Once Pauline is a bit older, and Great Uncle Matthew (GUM) is away again, another package...

Shoe in
Advantages: Comfortable
Disadvantages: Big, ugly, flamboyantly coloured
...As some of you may already be aware, the way to my heart is with handbags and shoes. Large cash deposits are also much appreciated but don?t come along all that often. As far as shoes are concerned, I like pretty shoes, generally with sparkly bits and, ideally, bows.
However, for the past couple of weeks I?ve been limping in the manner of a geriatric who has recently had a hip replaced. This could be due to the fact that I attempted to kick a 6 ton boat off a rock (that some other incompetent had wedged it on, I hasten to add) or it could be down to years of wearing shoes that are too tight, too cramped, too high, or just weighed down with too many bows. It had got to the stage that I was limping so badly that my knee had become quite sore as a result of walking awkwardly on my left foot, and I really thought that ropes and some...

Renaissance Chancery Court- Impressive or Overpriced??
Advantages: Exceptional service
Disadvantages: Tired rooms
...INTRODUCTION
One day mid March an invitation to my boyfriends work ball arrived on our doormat. The ball was to held at the prestigious Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel, a world renowned luxurious Marriot hotel in the heart of London. Not far from Covent Garden, I was treating this beautiful hotel as a little weekend getaway. By means of an introduction I would say my feelings are mixed, and here are the reasons why.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
BOOKING
Through the boyfriend?s work we could get a special rate to stay at the hotel, which was hugely appreciated. I instantly went to the website to book a room. However, upon visiting www.renaissancechancerycourt.co.uk I found that the code for a room would not work. Therefore we decided to pay a visit to the hotel itself. When we entered...

Courtly.

Disadvantages: Possibly.
...honeymoon in Hampton Court Palace.
Local public houses and streets still honour Wolsey's name. (Unsurprisingly, there are few churches still remaining in the area that predate the Reformation - you can find one, St Georges, behind The Bear pub in Esher).
*The Palace:
There are a few entrances to Hampton Court palace, but the main one is the West Gate entrance (the Trophy Gate - added by William III 1689 - 1702), which leads visitors into the Outer Green Court (or Base Court as it also known) and then into the Clock Court: One is immediately struck by the grandeur of the palace, emphasised by the enormous Astronomical Clock (1540, Nicholas Oursian - Inventor of clocks for the King) that greets you - interestingly, the clock depicts the sun revolving around the earth, not a common place belief at the time of construction. On the right...

Cedar Court left me wanting more!
Advantages: Close to M62. Wide range of facilities.
Disadvantages: Robotic staff, boring rooms. Testosterone fueled bar.
...Work can require me to visit the lovely world of West Yorkshire from time to time and the closest hotel to my office, happens to be the Cedar Court Huddersfield. I have stayed there once but wouldn?t rush back. The only thing going for it in my opinion is the closeness to the M62 and the cheap corporate rate!
Arrival
The hotel is situated just off the M62 at Ainley Top making it handy for the local road links. There is an abundance of on-site car parking which is free for residents and at night there is a security guard outside throughout the darker hours to help keep your car safe.
Check In
Check in was straightforward if a little robotic. We were processed through, credit cards swiped and then given the key to our rooms. This key was extremely retro and of a large size making it difficult to keep in your pocket and felt more like you...

Green Wellie Shoes
Advantages: Dry feet
Disadvantages: None I have found yet
...We have all heard of the drought conditions that have been experienced in England recently. Unfortunately, although my part of the country is reputed to be "drier than Egypt", this isn't apparent in my garden. Following weeks of rain, the old shoes I had been using outside, finally gave up the ghost and fell apart. My feet were just as wet as they would have been had I been outside with bare feet! This WAS an option - but having seen some of the wildlife that wanders around the garden, NOT something that I chose to do.
During a trip to the garden centre I happened to notice some garden shoes - in fact, just like a Wellington shoe. I have to say this as I can think of no better way to describe them. They are made by a company called Willowdale Products and there is quite a selection to choose from ranging from the usual...

Shoes, shoes, shoes....wahahaha!
Advantages: lots of cheap, high quality shoes!
Disadvantages: customer service not great!
...SHOE ZONE
-----------------
Shoe zone was founded in 1917 and was called Bensonshoe. In 1980 it was bought by the Smith family. A year later Wassall PLC was bought acquiring 43 stores and doubling the companies turnover. Another company, Tylers, was bought 5 years later in 1986 adding more branches. The store has continued to grow and is now known as the 'shoe giant' Shoe Zone.
THE STORE
-----------------
This review is based on the store in Plymouth although I have attended other Shoe Zone stores over the UK and they seem much of a likeness. The store in Plymouth is very eye catching. The sign outside uses 'clashing colours' orange and blue. It is a very basic but an attractive and effective sign.
Outside the store there are several baskets containing shoes that are on offer. At the moment Shoe Zone is selling a lot...

* In Who's Shoes ? *
Advantages: Good Acting , Ideal For A Sleepover
Disadvantages: Predictable At Times
...In Her Shoes had been on my to-buy DVD list for some time , and so while I was passing through Woolworths one day , I noticed it was on sale for £5. So I bought it.
In Her Shoes stars Cameron Diaz , Toni Collette and Shirley Maclaine. The dvd features a blonde Cameron Diaz in jeans and a revealing green top , sitting on a sofa and facing sideways , giving the camera a flirtatious pose. By her side is Toni Collette sitting with her legs cross on the same sofa , wearing a black suit , messy hair. There is a dog to her right , with a pair of shoes in it's mouth. Between the two women are the words " Friends. Rivals. Sisters ". Heat magazine has given this movie 5 stars.
In her Shoes was filmed in 2005 in America and directed by Curtis Hanson . The film is based on the novel "In Her Shoes" by Jennifer Weiner although the screen play...

Honiley Court
Advantages: peaceful location
Disadvantages: expensive drinks
...I recently visited Honiley Court for my works Christmas Party and was fairly impressed considering some of the things I had read about on other sites!
Most of the things I had read were all fairly negative stating things such as no heating in the rooms, damp patches, dirty bedding etc so to be honest I was a bit reluctant to go!
The hotel:
The hotel is set in the countryside with beautiful, peaceful veiws on a fairly quiet country lane. We arrived in the daytime and found the hotel quite easily (without the aid of Satnav!) but a few of my colleagues who arrived later in the evening had said they had found it hard to locate as the road isn't all that well lit.
In most hotels I have been in, the reception desk is usually visible as soon as you enter through the door but for some reason the reception desk was to the right so we...
