Tender Loving care from Coventry BS - TLC
Advantages: small, friendly yet efficient staff and service, competitive interest rates, easy to contact own branch directly!!
Disadvantages: not many branches (though anyone in Uk can open accounts via post, phone or website you do NOT need to visit the branch)
...Yes, that’s right TLC not PLC is Coventry Building society’s motto, and they’re right! Even though I’ve only had the pleasure of being with Coventry BS for a year now I am happy to admit they really are one of the more friendlier building societies left! Throughout this opinion I will refer to Coventry TLC as they do treat their customers with the up most respect and tender loving care (TLC!)
This is an opinion submitted under "customer/general service-Building societies" based on my experience as a member there for 1 year. I will not discuss the range of financial products in great detail here as these would be best found under "accounts" sub-category)
With the financial year coming to a close (well, it’s hard not to miss all reminders from banks/building societies) I decided it was time to...

Coventry Building Society
Advantages: Local, convenient, some accounts pay really good rates of interest
Disadvantages: Direct debits can bounce even when the money is in the account, low funds charges
...I have had a Coventry Building Society account of one sort or another for 30 years (now that ages me!). Yes, I too had one of those little blue plastic house-shaped moneyboxes . They broke easily when you 'accidentally' dropped them. (Who needs keys?)
I've currently got 3 accounts with the Coventry; two MoneyMaker accounts (minimum opening amount is £100) and an Investment Account (which is one of those old discontinued accounts with a naff rate of interest.) I have ATM cards for one of the MoneyMaker accounts and the Investment Account.
I like the Coventry; it's local, convenient, open on Saturday mornings and because it's part of the Link network, I can get money out of my Coventry accounts almost anywhere.
My parents had their mortgage with the Coventry and never had a bad word to say about it. Mind you, my mother is the most...

Ideal for Coventry City fans (allegedly)
Advantages: Decent room, friendly service
Disadvantages: A bit out from the centre of the city
...INTRODUCTION
Travelling to Coventry to one of my company's offices for the first time, I picked the Novotel thanks to our booking system which immediately pointed me to the cheapest option available. Some way out of town, I wasn't expecting it to be anything memorable, but I was at least hopeful of it giving me a decent nights rest. Here is what I found.
LOCATION
Apparently it's 10 minutes from the centre of Coventry, Birmingham Airport and the NEC and a walking distance from the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry Town Football Club. It doesn't say whether this is 10 minutes is walking or driving. We were told there was a curry house about a 15 minute walk away, right from the hotel, under the railway bridge and straight on down Longford Road, Nashaa. We went there and I have to say it was excellent and I'd highly...

Build a Friend!
Advantages: Good choices, nice assistants, good for kids
Disadvantages: Bit boring for young children, expensive
...When Harry turned 3 in March, we didn't want to spoil him with too many gifts, but we also wanted to get something a little bit special for him. He has 2 Hamley's bears that he has in bed with him every night, and he loves them to bits and they are what gave me the idea for his birthday present. We decided that after taking him to the local soft play, we would go to the Build-a-Bear workshop and let him build his very own bear, completely of his own choosing. We didn't tell him about it, so when we turned up outside the shop, he was shocked and amazed that he was going in, let alone buying his own bear!
I wasn't really aware the Build-a-Bear franchise until recently as I have no need to go into one of their stores! I knew of the idea of making something as when my fiance and I went to New York in 2005, we each went to a doll...

Build a Bear Workshop
Advantages: The game is so user friendly and perfect for children
Disadvantages: The eggs not cracking in the one game
...My review is for the game Build a bear workshop for the Nintendo Ds Console.
What is Build a bear?
------------------------------
Well this is basically a company which sells you bears which you need to make and create yourself. They are located across the country and they are teddy bears without the fillings inside and you get to choose which sort of bear you want. This could be an animal design or a basic teddy. You get to stuff the bear yourself and buy the bear clothes and treat it like a real companion.
They are definitely worthwhile visiting if you are someone with a little daughter as they seem more interested than the boys would be.
The Game
--------------
I got this game for my niece who plays the Nintendo Ds console and because I am a huge softy I decided to play on it as well and was actually impressed...

Coventry.We're Sky Blue!
Advantages: Tons of history & cool places to visit!
Disadvantages: It's SERIOUSLY Urban!
...This might be a bit of a biased review because I actually live here ;-)
So what can Coventry offer you as a visitor?
History! Those devilish Huns air-conditioned Coventry during the 1940's (sorry, some of us are still a bit bitter about that) and you can still see the after effects of that in Coventry Cathedral. Our old Cathedral that is. Yep, we've got 2 Cathedrals! Well at the football we do sing "If you want a Cathedral, We've got one to spare" and we can actually mean it!
Actually we have 3 Cathedrals! At least according to Tony Robinson and Time Team we do, we're the ONLY place they ever visited and spent more than 3 days digging there. So thanks to Phil & Mick we now have another Cathedral, admittedly its a big pile of rubble but so is most of one of the other Cathedrals too.
You can see the City wall (or whats left...

Not a PLC and little TLC either
Advantages: A long-established major Building Society
Disadvantages: Not the best rates of interest and customer service is not first rate.
...paid by the Coventry Building Society was about as good as any and as it was a mutual I invested my money.
The Coventry was established in 1884 and describes itself as being one of the top five Building Societies. I suspect this means that they?re number five as I can?t imagine that they?d describe themselves in that way if they were number three. They?ve got almost a million members and are quite aggressive about what they see as the need to retain mutual status.
My initial investment was in a Fixed Rate Bond for three years. The application process was smooth and as uncluttered as is possible given the Society?s need to comply with the current legislation to counter money laundering and the account was opened, by post, within a matter of days. There is a branch network and this is primarily based in the Midlands, but frankly...

When All else failed Build-Up Helped.
Advantages: A good way to temp back a flagging appetite
Disadvantages: None
....
The District Nurse suggested that I try some Nestle Build-up, at that time I had heard of them but that was as much as I knew.
The chemist stocked them in strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and banana flavour, I chose the strawberry flavour knowing that Mum enjoyed that fresh taste.
I fully understood that as much as Mum wanted to be able to enjoy some `real food` at that point in time she just wasn't able to cope with it.
Nestle Build-Up was a good way forward, at least the fruity milk shakes were easy to drink and simple to digest and they made me feel secure in the knowledge that I was at least trying to help the situation along.
There are four separate sachets of Nestle Build-Up in each box and I paid somewhere in the region of £2.50 for the box at our local pharmacy.
The milk shake is easy to make, just pour the contents of the sachet into...

Coventry Hell Hotel
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Horrific Decor, terrible service
...I recently booked the above package for myself and my boyfriend, for 1 night?s stay in May. Not just any random 1 night's stay though - this was the night before we left a grey miserable UK for sunnier climes - Rome to be exact. We were flying from Coventry and as we had to be at the airport at the ungodly hour of 5am and parking at Coventry airport is non-existent, we decided to really push the boat our & book an overnight stay at an airport hotel with a fly/park package.
I booked using Brittannia's online booking facility (http://www.flightparks.com/Default.asp?Page=60) by following the ?Coventry Airport? link. The total cost of our stay, to include 1 night at the hotel, return transfers to Coventry Airport and parking at the hotel during our holiday, was £69.00. Unusually I didn't do too much research into the quality...

Hilton Coventry Hotel
Advantages: Close to main road network & NEC. Very helpful staff
Disadvantages: Not a great deal within walking distance
...An eventful recent (March 2008) visit in order to compile this review, but more about that aspect later.
This hotel is part of the international Hilton chain, and was chosen by my wife and I for a winter/spring weekend break for us along with our 16 month-old little boy. We have stayed at numerous Hilton group hotels previously in the UK and in other parts of the world and have usually been pleased with their standards.
This was a 'last minute' booking, so we had to take what was available, and on initially being offered 'Coventry' we weren't too keen - we had visions of not talking to one another whilst we were there !!
However I can say that we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel.
It was very easy to find, especially with a sat-nav! However without the aid of technology and relying on a good old-fashioned map then it...
