University - waste of time???

Advantages: Good reputation. Central for most of the UK, good road & rail links.
Disadvantages: Hard work? - wait 'til you get to the real world!

...I write this review as a parent of a student, who has been at this university for three years. During this time, I have visited Coventry many times, both to the university, and the city itself. I have gone in shops, museums, parks, fast food outlets, bars, libraries, and many more places. I have spent a long time in traffic, on the ring road, in & out of car parks, and all over the local area. I now feel qualified to comment. I have made up my own list of Specific Criteria, nothing wrong with the one below, just different. Location - Very good, near city centre, inside ring road. The shops, bars, fast food, buses, are just right. I believe that the location is very important, it has to be near enough to get home at night for one thing. There are a lot of large heavy pieces of course material to be transported, and most students don...

Ideal for Coventry City fans (allegedly)

Advantages: Decent room, friendly service
Disadvantages: A bit out from the centre of the city

...INTRODUCTION Travelling to Coventry to one of my company's offices for the first time, I picked the Novotel thanks to our booking system which immediately pointed me to the cheapest option available. Some way out of town, I wasn't expecting it to be anything memorable, but I was at least hopeful of it giving me a decent nights rest. Here is what I found. LOCATION Apparently it's 10 minutes from the centre of Coventry, Birmingham Airport and the NEC and a walking distance from the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry Town Football Club. It doesn't say whether this is 10 minutes is walking or driving. We were told there was a curry house about a 15 minute walk away, right from the hotel, under the railway bridge and straight on down Longford Road, Nashaa. We went there and I have to say it was excellent and I'd highly...

Coventry university. Sent there, loving it

Advantages: So many
Disadvantages: Lack of sleep

...When you think of Coventry university, you probably think of crap nightlife, "that hole in the midlands" and other demeaning terms. Well, thats what i used to think!!! but after a severe lack of effort and thus an obvious underachievement in my a-level results, i only just got in, but still....i was in....and the story unfolds. It seems that the rumours and ideas about Coventry are entirely unfounded, and more to the point un-true. Well this is my opinion, but i feel i speak for most of my fellow students and friends. We have a briliant time in our halls of 100, we go out at least 4 times a week, and dont really sleep that much!! We already realise that these are the best times of our lives and, although i hear that most people in most universities have similar opinions, i wouldn't rather be anywhere else! so if your thinking...

Review of Coventry University

Welcome to- umm- well, Coventry actually.

Advantages: Well equipped, organised and funded Uni in a great City
Disadvantages: You could proabaly find a more prestigious degree

...Coventry University is quite a large and well organised university, with something in the region of 15,000 students. A great many of these are from abroad, which generates a sizeable proportion of the uni's income. Student services at Cov are excellent - All first year students are guaranteed accomodation, be it in one of the many Halls of residence (some on campus, others further away) or in the university managed but privately owned houses. THese are of a varying standard - the freshers often get the scruffier places, especially if you apply late, but if you start looking early enough in the year you'll find some nice houses available, and once you're in one you have first refusal on it the following year. Rent is reasonable and since the places are managed by the uni you don't have to worry about disputes with the landlord...

Review of Coventry University

Coventry - depends what for

Advantages: Some subjects the best in the country
Disadvantages: Its not a picturesque place to be

...As with all Universities it really depends what it is you are looking at studying when you get there. I know league tables etc give some impressions but reading real reviews may also help. It is worth noting the only bad review of Coventry so far cannot actually be bothered to check what is written so probably reflects something of the general attitude of the reviewer. Coventry is not chic or stylish - its set in the centre of the city and you accept it on that basis. The advantages are accessible transport systems, lots of pubs/clubs in stumbling distance and the advantage of being able to get out to the shops between lectures. Some accomodation is excellent with full meals service if required and other accomodation is less good it depends on what you want to pay for. There are lots of sports and leisure opportunities in...

Coventry.We're Sky Blue!

Advantages: Tons of history & cool places to visit!
Disadvantages: It's SERIOUSLY Urban!

...This might be a bit of a biased review because I actually live here ;-) So what can Coventry offer you as a visitor? History! Those devilish Huns air-conditioned Coventry during the 1940's (sorry, some of us are still a bit bitter about that) and you can still see the after effects of that in Coventry Cathedral. Our old Cathedral that is. Yep, we've got 2 Cathedrals! Well at the football we do sing "If you want a Cathedral, We've got one to spare" and we can actually mean it! Actually we have 3 Cathedrals! At least according to Tony Robinson and Time Team we do, we're the ONLY place they ever visited and spent more than 3 days digging there. So thanks to Phil & Mick we now have another Cathedral, admittedly its a big pile of rubble but so is most of one of the other Cathedrals too. You can see the City wall (or whats left...

Coventry Hell Hotel

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Horrific Decor, terrible service

...I recently booked the above package for myself and my boyfriend, for 1 night?s stay in May. Not just any random 1 night's stay though - this was the night before we left a grey miserable UK for sunnier climes - Rome to be exact. We were flying from Coventry and as we had to be at the airport at the ungodly hour of 5am and parking at Coventry airport is non-existent, we decided to really push the boat our & book an overnight stay at an airport hotel with a fly/park package. I booked using Brittannia's online booking facility (http://www.flightparks.com/Default.asp?Page=60) by following the ?Coventry Airport? link. The total cost of our stay, to include 1 night at the hotel, return transfers to Coventry Airport and parking at the hotel during our holiday, was £69.00. Unusually I didn't do too much research into the quality...

Tender Loving care from Coventry BS - TLC

Advantages: small, friendly yet efficient staff and service, competitive interest rates, easy to contact own branch directly!!
Disadvantages: not many branches (though anyone in Uk can open accounts via post, phone or website you do NOT need to visit the branch)

...Yes, that’s right TLC not PLC is Coventry Building society’s motto, and they’re right! Even though I’ve only had the pleasure of being with Coventry BS for a year now I am happy to admit they really are one of the more friendlier building societies left! Throughout this opinion I will refer to Coventry TLC as they do treat their customers with the up most respect and tender loving care (TLC!) This is an opinion submitted under "customer/general service-Building societies" based on my experience as a member there for 1 year. I will not discuss the range of financial products in great detail here as these would be best found under "accounts" sub-category) With the financial year coming to a close (well, it’s hard not to miss all reminders from banks/building societies) I decided it was time to...

Hilton Coventry Hotel

Advantages: Close to main road network & NEC. Very helpful staff
Disadvantages: Not a great deal within walking distance

...An eventful recent (March 2008) visit in order to compile this review, but more about that aspect later. This hotel is part of the international Hilton chain, and was chosen by my wife and I for a winter/spring weekend break for us along with our 16 month-old little boy. We have stayed at numerous Hilton group hotels previously in the UK and in other parts of the world and have usually been pleased with their standards. This was a 'last minute' booking, so we had to take what was available, and on initially being offered 'Coventry' we weren't too keen - we had visions of not talking to one another whilst we were there !! However I can say that we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It was very easy to find, especially with a sat-nav! However without the aid of technology and relying on a good old-fashioned map then it...

Worcester University

Advantages: Accomodation, Student Union, Sports, Clubs, Library, IT, History
Disadvantages: Expense

...I've been here getting on for around a week now and I must say that I have had an excellent time so far. Before accepting the offer to go Worcester I travelled to it to investigate it and to see if it was for me. After travelling around some of the other universitys that I got into I came to the conclusion that this one was more for me conpared to any of the others. Size ********* I've found that its small which makes it quaint in my eyes and from my opinion however I find a city that is huge can be a little too big and can appear scary and overwhelming at times. Worcesters size is perfect offering up Night Clubs, Food, Shops and culture. The University was originally opened as an emergency teaching college until only recently in the last few years it has been granted the ability to become a university. This means it has being...
