Kona Cowan Frame Review. Light, strong and lovely to ride.
Advantages: Excellent lightweight and bomb-proof frame. Strong durable components.
Disadvantages: Slightly pricey with mid-range components.
...In 2006 I purchased a 2005 Kona cowan frame that i could custom build. This review is based on my experience on using the frame rather than the full bike supplied by Kona. Despite this I can comment on the specification and value for money of the full bike. The best feature of this bike is certainly the frame, retailing at around £499 alone. The components on this bike are chosen based on there performance as jump bike components. Taking into account what this bike will be used for, all the components are strong and durable. The more you pay for bike components, the lighter and more efficient they become without sacrificing any strength. The components on this bike are fairly average when compared to the quality of the frame. Therefore I think the bike is a touch over priced at £1000 rrp, but certainly worth the money. The frame itself...

Salty tears
Advantages: Heart-rending tale of grief
Disadvantages: Sometimes to technical for real life.
...Opening with the description of a car journey, Andrew Cowan captures the entire ethos of his latest novel in the opening chapter. “Crustaceans” is the journey of a man’s (Paul) life, from his beginning to this point in time.
Paul’s story is a constant stream of thought, the plot weaving between his childhood, his collage years, his adulthood, and his current journey. Each chapter tells a gives us a puzzle piece from one era and takes away one from an other; it seems that while the reader is trying to piece together Paul’s life, so to is Paul. Something as happened to Paul to destroy him, and he is not quite sure of how or why.
He begins by telling us how he met his wife Ruth, the time he spent with her as a student, and the birth of thier child. Although these are happy times for him, the man he is...

Transforming and spiritual
Advantages: Great insights, good travel story
Disadvantages: -
...'Desert Father' by James Cowan is a both a book about transformation, and can itself cause a transformation. Cowan recounts in engaging prose the story of his journey in search of the spirit of Anthony, the patriarch of monks, and the first anchorite and hermit in the desert in Christian history. Anthony gave up the splendours of life in Egypt (which was, at his time, one of the most splendid places on earth to live), forsaking the Nile for the desert, and forsaking the customs and comforts of society for the solitary, mud-brick and cave existence of an ascetic.
Cowan traveled to the still-extant Monastery of St. Anthony, near Mount Colzim (for those looking on maps, it might also be spelled Kolzim or Al-Qalzam), where Anthony's later years were spent. There Cowan found several things, including a library of the early church fathers...

Live tennis on tv - surely not!
Advantages: lots of live tennis from the atp and wta
Disadvantages: poor commentary
...As many tennis fans will know apart from Wimbledon, tennis very rarely is shown on the bbc channels. I was flicking through the sports channels a few weeks ago and came across live atp tennis from the estoril open in portugal on british eurosport - fantastic. Since then I have checked the channel whenever there is an atp or wta tournament on and 9/10 times they will have some live coverage or at the very least highlights.
The only real problem is the pundits they employ, not many famous faces and lots of waffle at times, although recently they have introduced virginia wade, barry cowan and greg rusedski - regulars from the bbc's coverage of wimbledon and this has improved things.
The commentary isn't great though, with the commentators seeming to change their mind about who is going to win the match depending upon who won...

They Could Do Well
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...After Burnley were promoted last season what they really needed was some cash to sign more players to strengthen their squad but the only new signing is J. Boardman from Liverpool a 19 year old defender and Lee Briscoe from Sheffield Wednesday. Briscoe could do well, espceially if he scores goals like the one he did against Man.Utd(I think) last season. Fortunately they haven't lost many players, Ian Wright retired and Tom Cowan was released along with E. Kelly? I could be a tough season ahead for Burnley but they should finish around mid-table or they could get relegated....

Daily Record
Advantages: Frankie Boyle, Tam Cowan
Disadvantages: Jim McLean
...The Daily record is the only paper that I regularly read all the way through. The paper basically just prints daily news on what's happening mainly in the Britain, but also some news from the US and elsewhere.
I focus mainly on the back sport pages, then go back to the front and work my way through the more amusing stories.
The sports section is pretty good. Most of the information printed is generally correct, unlike the it's main rival...
Hotline is included within the sports section. This can be frustrating to read as it is people who have phoned in who's often opinions are printed. Most of which are from people who don't really watch sport it seems.
The Daily Record is home to my two favourite columnists - Tam Cowan and the recently recruited Frankie Boyle.
My least favourite columnist being Jim McLean who I generally...

Underperformance of Essex bowlers
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The performance of the Essex bowlers this season has worried me greatly. In Mark Illot we have a bowler who can swing the ball both ways and causes serious problems for batsmen of county level. However, he spends the whole time injured. Ashley 'Wallace' Cowan also causes concern since, after bursting on to the England scene a couple of years ago he's done nothing. Ricky Anderson shows promise, but is again inconsistent, and although Ronnie Irani regularly produces the goods, it is concerning that they have not gelled, especially considering Peter Such's age, and the fact he cannot go on for much longer. I feel much of our success next season will rest on the shoulders of Ronnie Irani and Stuart Law....

Film Noir - A Defining Moment In Cinema History
Advantages: Cast,directing, gripping plot
Disadvantages: Very little...
...I don't know if the term film noir had been invented before The Maltese Falcon was released in 1941, but if it hadn't, it would have been necessary to create it just for this film. (If you don't know what film noir means, watch this film to find out!)
Humphrey Bogart is one of my all-time favourite actors and his portrayal of unemotional but honourable Private Detective Sam Spade is perfect. When a damsel in distress (Mary Astor) comes in with a case for Spade and his detective partner Miles Archer (Jerome Cowan), it seems like a routine case of a woman with a secret, but when Archer is murdered and a set of criminal characters (well, three to be exact - Joe Cario [Peter Lorre], Wilmer Cook [Elisha Cook Jr.], and "The Fat Man" [Sydney Greenstreet]) turn up and show an interest in Spade and his newly acquired female companion, and in...
