The Sound Blaster Audigy LS
Advantages: Brilliant clarity. Excellent with all types of music, especially rock. Simple set up & Instructions.
Disadvantages: None at all.
...When it comes to sound, most motherboards these days have integrated electronics to support all manner of devices. Soundcards, while no longer a necessity, have retained their popularity on the market due to the fact that they often improve the sound quality heard through ones speakers or headphones profoundly. Such is the case with the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy LS.
Introduction
I purchased this card a few months ago, to compliment my cheap and cheerful Pc Chips board, the sound from my motherboard was quite good but didn't really do some genres of music justice (in particular classical music). So off I went to my local computer fair in search of a sound card to give the audio a much needed boost.
It didn't take long to locate a stall which seemed to specialize in sound and video cards, after browsing for awhile a box...

Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE
Advantages: Loads of featured software, price
Disadvantages: none
...This is being used as the primary sound card inside my computer. Sound card aren't really much needed these days as computers onboard (motherboard) sound are just as good.
It came in a package with an installation CD-Rom. Installing was easy (considering you know how to plug in something to PCI/PCI-Express etc...) It requires no cables to be attached to it but has an area for one which I think is for making a direct connection to your CD drive which isn't at all necessary.
Sound quality on this is excellent none-the-less. It is clear as you could possibly want it in 7.1 mode. It has ports for microphone, speakers and? well I don't know what the other two are to tell the truth but the green and pink normal ones are there. It can be run in 2, 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 modes.
The software included is very useful. It comes with the drivers...

Creative Sound Blaster Connect
Advantages: Good sound, optical connections, complete bundle
Disadvantages: A bit light, stereo only via analogue
...It?s not always easy or convenient to open your PC to install a new soundcard. You may just not like the idea of physically opening the machine. It may be you are a laptop owner and plagued by their notoriously poor audio capabilities. In either case, if you need to upgrade your machine?s sound capabilities, the Creative SoundBlaster Connect is just what the doctor ordered
Installation
Being a USB device, you simply need to install the drivers, plug it in to a USB socket and away you go. The Sound Blaster Connect takes its power from the USB connection so no external power pack is needed which is a major plus point. My system has Windows XP and an existing onboard sound card but it's a bit average. After installation both the original sound card and the new external one worked fine but I decided to disable the onboard sound via...

Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook - a phenomenon
Advantages: Great Sound
Disadvantages: Limited software, little expensive
.... I have tried it with my 7.1 Creative set and the quality was very good but not quite up to my living room 5.1 system (made by Tannoy and costing £900!). It is comparable, obviosuly the bass is diffferent. It is very deep but a bit boomy with the creative set and mid range sounds (e.g. Voices) are not as well defined. However, it is a cheap and very listenable solution. I took the test a little further by using the digital optical Input on the Audigy 2 ZS and plugged into my PS3. The 7.1 set sounded even better with a BLuray disc in however my girlfriend could not tell the difference so it might not be as big a gap as expected.
My main use for the card is to produce dance music. It is so clear in stereo mode. I love using this card and run it through an external Cambridge audio amplifier to my Tannoy Mercury F1 Customs. this gives...

NX 2 USB Soundcard
Advantages: Good price, fanastic card, a real boost over onboard sound !
Disadvantages: Sound recording problems with 3rd party software ..ill explain later...
...Audigy NX 2 USB Soundcard.
Specs:
USB Plug and play (with correct drivers installed. comes on cd with product and also updates from the manufacturers website)
For use with 5.1 or 7.1 surround speakers
Comes with own IR ( infa red ) hand control!! (How sweet is that???) Very good as well, you can access and change a lot of the settings right in your own hand, as well as exploring your computer for music files to play! And selecting them from your media list (not windows media, but the included media program that comes with the card.)
With USB 2.0 it will work with sample rates up to 96 KHz, where normally only 44.1 or 48.0 KHz are used. (The standard on this card is 48.0 KHz and it doesn?t really cater for 44.1 KHz although I have not had any problems with this. NOTE USB 1.1 only allows upto 48.0 KHz! )
It also allows...

Sound without blasting a hole in your wallet
Advantages: Cheap, 5.1-channel sound available. Good quality sound
Disadvantages: Not for hardcore gamers,
...Having put up with mediocre sound delivered with one of these in fashion on-board motherboard sound devices, I decided it was time to harp back to the good old days of computing and purchase a sound card.
Now back in the day, Creative were the only brand of note in the sound card market. Although others have now joined in, the market for sound cards is nowhere near as competitive as other components. As a result, Creative still hold supremacy as a result of their previous reputation as much as anything else.
I didn't really want to spend mega bucks on this new sound card either, especially after recently paying to upgrade other aspects of my computer, so when I saw the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy in my local PC World on sale for £39.99 I thought this is the one for me!!! I will say it is also available in other computer hardware...

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Advantages: Voters stunning
Disadvantages: none
...I am always very confident that the product with the word "extreme" in their names. By using a computer, a product that is in line with the performance, reliability and well-supported. That is, either by the driver, easy installation, or other features that I need to use this product. All have a strange obsession with the name Xi-Fi Xtreme, Xtreme Sound.
I wonder, why change something that has been stable since 2001, the last time I think about the sound card? With names like "X-Fi Xtreme Gamer" is what really apart from a previous Sound Blaster sound card in 2001, because the voice I had never complained or irritated and great sound for all games, music, Internet chat.
I tried a lot for this computer so that the volume of a sound card is not a problem for me. For those who are interested in the plant, I am pleased to say that this...

Audigy 2 Platinum Ex
Advantages: External box, good quality output
Disadvantages: Remote pretty useless, bulky drivers/software
...There are some better cards out there in the a similar range, but as far as i know, few, if any feature an external box.
The card was easy to insert into e free PCI slot. The PCB is not overly large, and doesn't take up to much space in the case. The rear of the card has your three standard audio jacks, as well as the two ports to connect to the external box. The box features a master volume control, input volume control, 2 input jacks and a headphone jack. Also has optical ports and i firewire port. Also has a CMSS button (enables surround sound i think). The rear of the box also has several ports such as midi inputswhich i dont use. There is another firewire port on the rear also. The box build quality is fairly good, but slightly flimsy.
I decided to buy this card because of the ability to connect my guitar via the input jack...
