Diving in Mo'bay with Sandals

Advantages: Easy access
Disadvantages: Diving only average

...Whilst staying at Sandals Montego Bay ,three years ago, I did 12 dives with the Sandals Diveteam. They offered two dives a day as part of the all-inclusive package.The kit was all Cressi-Sub and well maintained. The morning dives were to a max of 30m, and most of the other divers (90% Americans) were PADI OW only. This mean't the Divemasters led everyone like children and the dives rarely exceeded 30 mins. The afternoons were worse as the "try divers" joined in, which mean't the diving was like a pool session. The outer reef was quite good diving, with a reasonable amount of life, but the inner was devoid of fish. The coral was pretty impressive though. This isn't the most impressive diving I've done and I wouldn't go to Montego Bay specifically to dive, although Sandals itself is excellent. If I was going there anyway I'd definitely...

Review of Jamaica (Dive Sites)

Superb second series by Schama

Advantages: The quality of the paintings which are reproduced and the photography are stunning.
Disadvantages: Slightly too gruesome.

...So far in the two programmes which have been broadcast from the second series of Simon Schama's History of Britain the interest has been kept high with his account of the revolution. The Civil War and the beheading of Charles Ist was followed by an assessment of Cromwell's contribution to the history of the British Isles. His role in Ireland was dealt with in a most telling manner. The brutality shown to the Cavalier soldiers at Drogheddon, after most of them had surrendered was graphically conveyed. The photography is gruesome but it emphasises the sufferings of people from the past. The Restoration of Charles IInd brought light relief for a few minutes as the fun and frolic was described. If you saw this programme and were interested in this period there is a little essay by David Cressy whhich decribes all the festivals...

Review of Simon Schama - History of Britain

Just about the best fins out there.

Advantages: Best fins i have ever used
Disadvantages: Very plain looking, everyone has them

...People in the diving world will know about the Oceanic split fin craze, for divers that have use the V12 fins they will know how good they are and all the other divers that haven't used them want too lol. The thing that makes these fins so good is the split in them; non divers might think how can you move yourself along underwater if you have a big split in your fins. Well the answer is better than you can if you don't have a split in your fins. The Oceanic Vortex V12 fins make moving through the water allot easier than with normal fins because for some reason you use less energy and travel faster too (I have no idea how this works it just does lol, take my word for it) I got my fins from my local dive shop for £80 because I was sick of my old Cressi fins Looks: The Vortex V12's come in one colour, black so they look pretty plain...

Review of Oceanic Vortex V12

SheDives in the Tropical pool?

Advantages: warm enough, comfy
Disadvantages: the colour scheme isnt to my taste

...No surprises here but I like to scuba dive, sadly for me a good 90% of my dives these days are working with students and of those over half are in the local pool when assisting on confined water dives or conducting the Discover Scuba program (try dives to the rest of the world). So for me a good quality wetsuit is essential as in the pool I would look slightly ridiculous in a dry suit and it doesnt look overly professional for me to be bimbling about cellulite on display in my bikini. My original shorty suit cost me less than £30 over 6 years ago and is currently developing holes in the shoulders so time to invest in a new one. I have to admit my choices of suit to walk in to my LDS to just pick up and walk away with were limited to the Mares range or Cressi, but after trying on several other suits at other shops I settled...
