...I quite enjoy a bit of DIY and I enjoy doing outdoor jobs in the Summer months so I really wasn't too unhappy to realise that it was time to put a bit of wood preserver on my fence. Mind you although I enjoy a bit of DIY I do find painting can be a bit tedious so if I can find a way to make it easier I am always keen to do so. I had seen the advertisements for Cuprinol Sprayable Shed and Fence Preserver and it sounded like just the product I needed. Cuprinol have an excellent reputation and I have used their products many times and always been very satisfied so off I trotted to my local B&Q for a browse around. Currently B&Q have an offer of 3 for the price of 2 on the Cuprinol so, as it is £12.98 for a single container (enough for about 5 panels) you can get three for just £25.96 which isn't bad. The easy way to a great finish

Advantages: Makes the job so easy
Disadvantages: You do need to put a little effort into pumping up the pressure

...I love finding ways to make tedious jobs easier so I was delighted to find the Cuprinol Fence Sprayer in B&Q when I was looking for something to use to treat my fences. This gadget costs just under £20 and allows you to apply a suitable fence preserver with the minimum of fuss and far quicker that using a brush or roller. When I opened the box I discovered the large green container that you can see in the picture together with a few bits and pieces you need to put together to make the complete unit. It looked a little fiddly but in actual fact it was very easy to assemble and the instruction leaflet they provided in the box was very simple to follow. The machine is totally hand operated, it is not a powered unit which means once you have assembled it you can use it straight away, you don't need to wait for batteries to charge...

...are swatches on the Cuprinol website, the colours are also shown on the tin. The manufacturers claim that the product is touch dry in an hour and will resist showers in the first hour - it does dry if the product is put on thinly, back to that later. This was not given the opportunity to test. The following day I tipped a bucket of warter over it - and it does run off. As good as any product I've used- except the dreaded creosote. It seems to do the job at least initially. There are some claims on the tin that are very difficult to substantiate. 1. It keeps on mentioning 5 Year Ducks-Back. Reading the tin it says, "up to 5 years protection", this is a bit naughty as the implication is a sort of guarantee. 2. Rainproof in an hour. Not tested. Wilkinson fence sprayer - the cheaper alternative!

Advantages: Cheap, effective, quick, reliable, multi-purpose
Disadvantages: Needs a blank fence panel for best results.

...I bought the similar product from WILKINSONS - their own brand of fence sprayer, which, at £12.99 is considerably cheaper than the Cuprinol version! When I opened the box, I thought some pieces were missing, but they were all present - INSIDE the main body of the sprayer itself! Assembly is very straightforward and simply requires attaching the TWO filters to the ends of the plastic pipe and then attaching the spray head at one end and the sprayer body at the other - a matter of a minute's work at most. The sprayer head is non-adjustable, and produces a flat 'fan' of product and the trigger cannot be locked on - otherwise, it is identical to any other sprayer.
