Samsung NC10 Review

Advantages: Good battery life, nice screen, near enough a full size keyboard
Disadvantages: small-ish trackpad

...I recieved this netbook for christmas and all i can say is 'wow'! My background with computers is vast having built many and installed multiple operating systems on each, however i have never owned a laptop. Therefore i was a little dubious about some of the things such as keyboard size, processing power and battery life. I was looking for a laptop which is very small in physical size while packing a punch so it could still carry out multiple tasks. Buying a full size (15.4") laptop seemed a bit pointlesss as i have two tower pc's which are my main machines, so this was just to be about casual surfing/ reading emails/ browsing while on the move. Samsung NC10 Netbook

Advantages: Lots of connectivity - Big keyboard - excellent screen - Good spec
Disadvantages: bad sleeve to store netbook - battery life not that long - small touchpad

...I managed to pick up this netbook for £299 which is oustanding value - from play.com. The netbook is very light and can fit almost anywhere - it is very easy to carry around - you can set up anywhere and very easily connect to the internet where available. The netbook looks very stylish and everything is laid out well. The keyboard is the biggest i have ever seen on a netbook - its almost full size which is a bonus as I have a lot of typing to do. One disadvantage of this is that the mousepad has been made very small which is a nuisance - you do get used to it but it is not ideal. The specs for this netbook are impressive I mean a massive 160GB hard drive, a 10.2 inch screen. 1 GB of RAM and a 1.6GHZ intel atom processor. Samsung NC10 Black netbook a lightweight and excellent netbook

...I bought my NC10 to replace my laptop which was just too heavy to be carrying to and from work everyday. I purchased my NC10 on a promotion weekend from a high street store beating online prices significantly. I was trying to avoid big bulky items to carry as I was on crutches at the time. Not recommended but straight out of box into my rucksack in the shop from which it was purchased. Didn't notice much weight difference in my bag at all. The Samsung NC10 has served me dilligently now being used more and more instead of my normal laptop as battery life is excellent. I use the NC10 round the house for coursework, work and even during my work lunch. Sennheiser CX300 - a great upgrade earphone

Advantages: Great sound clarity, very comfortable
Disadvantages: Higher frequencies not as refined as other earphones

SAMSUNG NP-NC10 Blue Netbook 1.6ghz Atom Processor

Advantages: Robust, Large Keyboard, Large Screen, Good Support.
Disadvantages: 1 Memory Slot, No Mobile Broadband Sim Slot, Specific keyboard key in unusual place.

...This netbook has to be one of my favourites, boasting a solid case, 10' screen and a fast bootup to Windows XP. Having played around with a few netbooks recently all boasting similar specifications, I can honestly say that I was not disappointed with this offering from Samsung. There are some negatives that let this review down slightly, so I will get these out of the way first. 1. The "\" key is located on the right side of the keyboard next to the "/" key. This takes some getting used to when swapping from a normal keyboard and you tend to select this by accident instead of the shift key. 2. There is no mobile broadband sim socket, so you have to buy one of the mobile broadband usb sticks which is fine but it would have been neater to simply keep a sim permanently in the netbook. 3. The BIOS on my netbook was out of date...

Sennheiser CX 300

Advantages: Sound quality, bass, ability to block out background noise
Disadvantages: Very flimsy for the price and no case included

...I bought these roughly a year ago and they only lasted a few months. The sound quality is very, very good. Having been stuck using the basic iPod earphones prior to these, the CX 300 were a refreshing change. The bass on them is certainly more than adequate. Although some in-ear headphones don't block out background noise very well you won't have that problem with these. As long as you have the correct sized cover on the headphones the background noise will be blocked out completely meaning you can have your mp3 player on below half max volume and hear the music very clearly. Prior to these I'd never used in-ear headphones before and was somewhat concerned as to whether they'd be to hard and rough on my ear. The Sennheiser however are very soft, not too large and quite easy to use. So, why didn't they last me very long? The wire...

...Our large, four bedroom house is over 200 years old and therefore has no cavity walls to insulate. After a cold and damp 2008 summer we were suffering from condensation and mould problems in spite of extractor fans in both kitchen and bathroom. Time to dehumidify! We bought our DEM 10 at Curry's for £99.99. It is compact, easily moved with a fold-out top carry handle and absolutely idiot proof in use. The level of humidity that the unit will pull down to can be controlled via a knob on top of the housing and there is a full tank warning light. The water tank is transparent so that the water level can be seen at a glance and the tank is so easy to remove for emptying - and, more importantly, to replace. Try some of the competition! A length of polythene hose is supplied to enable continuous draining should you want to leave the unit...

...and again, this doesn't seem to be a problem this year. The sound quality still isn't very good though. All of your stats are still saved within your 'Player HUB' and online leaderboards are there as always. The leaderboards at the moment appear to rank the top 10,000 in the world and top 10,000 in each country. At the moment I'm ranked around 7000 in GB, but don't have a ranking spot in the world rankings. 10v10 Team Play is still here. You can now play friends more easily. Previously when I wanted to play with just my friends I had to create a room then start as quick as possible without anyone else joining (there may have been an easier way), but now you can invite your friends to a private game. Nothing could really have been improved here unless they included the goalkeeper or substitutes, so when you're fed up with your real friends...

CX machine (NOT)

Advantages: Cheap, ultra reliable, comfortable, easy to maintain
Disadvantages: bit slow, bit ugly, no good for posers

...Picture the scene.... you pull into the pub car park after a summer Sunday ride, the girls sitting at the tables outside look over at the sound of the deep rumble of your V-twin motorcycle, you think you look pretty good in your leathers... 'hello girls' thinking kicks in... and then... horror of horrors... you look down between your legs... and there it is. Your CX machine. Grasping at the last hope of attracting one of the girls you quickly glance over to check for guide dogs or white sticks. No. Damn. Oh well, you only wanted a quick pint anyway. The CX is to pulling power what Norah Batty is to the porn industry. Not so much irrelevant as just not at all connected, despite ostensibly having the same basic features as something that is.
