FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included,new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

For Cyril and Lily...the best grandparents.
Advantages: They are like your parents, only nicer and more lenient!
Disadvantages: They have to get old and frail:o(
...This is my offering in response to CheekyGrannys challenge to me. Thanks Paula, it was a great idea and I have enjoyed writing it! I look forward to reading others!
For Cyril Claude (Aka Grandad Bodie!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My paternal Grandfather, Cyril, died in the 70?s. I remember the night, well. He had been ill for sometime and we were staying at my maternal grandmothers house to be near the hospital should we be needed. We weren?t, he went very quickly at then end...and left a gaping hole in my life. I didn?t know that at the time. I do now.
He spoiled my brother and I rotten, not always with material things but with fun and laughter, and the cheeky things that you can only do with your grandchildren. When Ian and me stayed with him; it was like an indulgent holiday. In the summer he was an almost permanent...
FREE DVDS
Advantages: up to date dvds, four weeks free hire with 3 dvds at a time,
Disadvantages: see review
...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so.
My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk.
Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. With Blockbuster?s things are different slightly ? which add a great deal of benefit to us the customer. Firstly, you get FOUR whole weeks free rental, which equates to at double the length of time most...
DVDs, DIVX, and looks fantastic.
Advantages: DVDs, DIVX, and looks fantastic.
Disadvantages: none
...Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs.
I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player.
In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place.
The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was so I could play divx format DVDs on it. The DVD player in a ps2 doesn’t recognise this format and scene as I have several divx movies already on disk and on my laptop to put onto disk then I wanted a DVD player that would recognise and play this format.
Another plus to this format is that it saves space on disks as it compresses movies into smaller file sizes without compromising...
DVDs for a fixed monthly fee...
Advantages: Simple, easy to use, quick delivery, good customer service
Disadvantages: May not have all the titles you are after
...I was using one of those sites that offer you points or a few cents for trying out free offers (don't recall which one exactly, may have been 'IPoints'...) and it had Lovefilm's FREE two week trial.
I signed up free for the minimal membership which allows you to keep one DVD at a time for as long as you want (with no late fees!) and although I had to give my credit card information, the agreement states that you will not be charged anything if you cancel within the two week period..
The membership ranges from £9 to £15 per month now; I do not recall how much it cost mid last year to be honest.. The other memberships get you 2 and 3 DVDs at a go.
I added the films I was interested in to some sort of 'wishlist'. The idea is that they send you one DVD, you keep it for as long as you want, then they send you the next one on your list...
Predictable Supernatural (review of show & DVDs)
Advantages: Passes the time, some interesting storylines,
Disadvantages: Predictable, no bonus features included,
...was younger... I suppose there is an element of well what did I expect? but I still feel like they could have maybe made it a bit more unpredictable...
Back to the DVD side of things and one real downside in my opinion, is the lack of bonus/special features. Basically in the boxset you get all 22 episodes that made up the first series/season and subtitles in English and Dutch but thats about all. There are no commentaries, deleted scenes or featurettes, none of that. I've heard you get alot more bonus features on the region 1, American version, so for some reason they've omitted that material from this version, which is a shame.
The DVDs are seperated into two different sets, Volume 1 (containing 3 boxes with obviously 3 DVDs, equating to the first 11 episodes) and Volume 2 (again containing 3 boxes, equating to the last 11 episodes...
Best for DVDs
Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text
...I wish I had found this site before, it truly is a gem of a site, it’s a site, which sells a variety of things from videos to DVDS, but I tend to order videos from them. They make sure you know what you are buying by giving you a few sentences on theme of the video.
I ordered a video and my friends are 100% sure that I had it before it was actually released in the shops so theirs a bonus. And what is more is that they give you 20% off all pre orders which is really good for me as I like to buy at once a collection of videos so the offer comes in handy. I think you can always rate a good site by it’s customer service and unlike some that I have unfortunately come across on other site which treat their customer’s really badly, this is different.
This site e-mailed me unexpectedly to offer their apologies for not...
