Czech Republic, A Time Machine of Adventure

Advantages: Varied Culture, Warm people
Disadvantages: Spoilt by joining the EU

...People talk about the Czech Republic, when they really mean Prague. Prague is like most major cities in Europe, its big, beautiful, and has its own certain cultures to attract tourists, it is however, too commercial for my liking (read my other reviews about what I do, and where I go) I favour the other side of the coin, and my journey\'s reflect that. Flying to the Czech Republic is easy, and many do it using it at as a lilly pad to hop to another country, but for me, the only way to experience the world, is by road. Entering at the German border from Annaberg Buchholz, south ish of Germany, I crossed over to Bozi dar, the same entry point Adolf Hitler used. The border is as sureal as it gets, on the one side are the German Polizei with their new Police cars, surrounded by oppulence and large old cold war observation points...

Visiting czech republic

Advantages: value for money, easy to get by in prague ,good for sightseeing
Disadvantages: pickpockets in underground stations, some taxi drivers will overprice you

...I've been to a few places in czech republic namely prague, pardubice, Hradec kralove, Brno, Olomouc. Prague is like almost all major cities in europe with a blend of people of different religion and culture. Transport system is excellent surprisingly ive never encountered any delays within the country itself except during this one winter where they didnt expect the snow so early. All flights were cancelled and delays on train lines. I found prague airport quite intriguing.ive never been to a duty free section in a country where there are no electronic shops!! If you are into drinkin beer then this is definetly the place to be!!Dont forget to have a shot of the famous absinthe!! Viva Czech Republic

Advantages: Cheap prices, wonderful people, not many English!
Disadvantages: Difficult language to grasp.

...Two days after we get back from Prague, and it's +2C in Ipswich. The previous week we were walking around in -10C in Kutna Hora, and it barely touched us. This island cold soaks through your bones, and you want to be back in that picturesque snowscape again. This is post-holiday blues, of course. Czech Prague Out

Advantages: History, Architecture and Culture
Disadvantages: Lots of walking, steep hills and cobbled streets

...We were planning a weekend break away but the first problem was where. I wanted somewhere with historical interest. David had always been fascinated in the culture of Prague. And so, Prague it was. Knowing we only had limited time in the city, we wanted to ensure that we got as much as possible from the trip as we could. With this in mind, I set about researching the city and its points of interest using the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Prague and the many sites available on the Internet particularly (http://www.prague-tourist-information.com/). We booked the flight and holiday for the cost of 300 pounds each. We could have paid less but we had specific requirements in mind for the trip. Czech Airlines ran a direct flight from Manchester which gave an arrival time of 10.30 a.m. thereby giving us almost a full two and a half days...

Small-town Czech (& Poland)

Advantages: Cheap, friendly, and still very 'foreign'
Disadvantages: You need to be able to communicate without English

Czech out my Christmas

Advantages: A whole new experience, very friendly and extremely GREAT FUN!!! NO CHRISTMAS STRESS

...Ok, first of all, please accept my apologies for the delay of this review, (Christmas review in March???) Any way, I would like to take this opportunity to explain a little (that I learned) about the Czech Christmas and then how this played a part in my Festive Celebrations.... If you asked an English child what, or more importantly, who they associated with Christmas, I think we would all agree the answer is more than likely to be Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc. However, ask a Czech child and the answer will not only be very different, it will also be the one you would expect to hear about the festive season. Jesus Christ or Baby Jesus. The Czech equivalent of Eastbourne

Advantages: Very quiet, lovely architecture in the old town centre, the spring water is good for you
Disadvantages: Very little else to do except visit the spa, and it's definitely an acquired taste!

...That says it all really - this is one of the quietest and most sedate towns I have visited! I went to Marianske Lazne (also known sometimes by its German name, Marienbad) on the way back from a trip to Karlovy Vary, as these two towns are both famed for the revitalising powers of their famous hot springs. It is situated in western Bohemia, just 50 kilometres from the German border and about 30km to the south of Karlovy Vary. It is not on any main roads, so the journey will be quite slow and bumpy if you are travelling by car, and if you are really lucky you'll have a cement mixer block the entire road for 20 minutes while some workmen throw rocks into the river. Strange but true. The approaches to the town from the main road are not particularly welcoming, a feature that appears to be common to many towns in the Czech Republic...

...This is going to be a long one! There is so much to say about this fabulous city! I'd heard of it but didn't even know what country it was in. Decided to visit and really want to go back again! A FEW FACTS Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic is in the centre of Europe. Prague is in the centre of the Czech republic. Prague is 496km squared in size and has a population of 1.2million people. The time zone is an hour ahead of England and they use the two pin plugs. The Currency is Kc, these are available in from a 1Kc coin up to a 5000kc note. The Kc is divided into 100h, these come in 10,20 and 50h coins. I only ever saw a 50h coin but as they are worth very little are rare. Sometimes places don't have small change so round up and give you more than you are owed. One thing I would recommend is to...

Turkey Through As Bruckner's Boys Czech Out

Advantages: Another comeback from Turkey, a classic for the neutrals
Disadvantages: A nightmare for the Czech supporter

...As I was supporting the Czech Republic, this defeat was hard to take. I know it should not count for anything, but letting in six in two games having conceded five throughout the qualifying stages is really poor. At two goals up against Turkey it should have been comfortable, and it was anything but in the second half. Still, there were chances for the Czech Republic, as Polak hit the post and Koller had a one-on-one opportunity to kill the game off. Oh well, at least it never came down to penalties. As I expected, and because Turkey lacked height up front, rather than take a direct approach like the Czech Republic, their attempts to pass through a compact five man midfield was going to be difficult and not surprisingly, it was not working. Review of Turkey vs Czech Republic

An Impressive Town in South Bohemia

Advantages: Medieval town filled with coffee shops and culture - not forgetting brown bears
Disadvantages: Too many tour groups

...It was one of those wet, dreary days in the Czech Republic when we hopped on to the packed bus heading for Cesky Krumlov. Hoping the weather would brighten up a little as we waved goodbye to the enormous bus station in Prague, I started to wonder what this town, often described as the second fairy tale town in Czech Republic, was actually like. Sometimes the countryside in between towns in this region of South Bohemia can be plain, flat and somewhat dull but fortunately the splendid Gothic and Baroque architecture make up for this. Once we had arrived in Cesky Krumlov the drizzle was still with us but we didn't let this dampen our spirits and decided to look for a room for the night straight away so we could then settle down to walking around this wonderful town. The bus station in Cesky Krumlow is on the outskirts of the town...
