Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

.... The D90, whilst looking, from the front at least, identical now boasts a picture definition of 12.3 mega pixels, twice that of the D70. However, it?s in what else it can now do that it outstrips the D70 by a mile. For one thing, it has the capability to shoot movies (yes, movies) in 720 line hi-def which can then be fed via an HDMI port direct to an HD-ready TV. Unlike the first wave of DSLRs, you can now preview the shot you?re about to take on the LCD screen at the back rather than use it to play back existing shots only. This has long been the ?Holy Grail? of SLR makers since SLRs still retain a physical shutter that keeps the ?film? or rather the electronic sensor in the dark till ready to fire so this is no mean feat. However, it?s not unique to Nikon ? I think Olympus, Canon and maybe others have been doing this for a while now...

Review of Nikon D90

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

... How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

The Samsung E720

Advantages: Mega-Pixel Camera, Video, MP3 Player, Bluetooth, USB, Stylish Design
Disadvantages: No Infra-Red port and the cover picture disappears too quickly.

...Deciding it was time to get a new phone, I was initially enchanted by the stylish Samsung D500. As I was browsing, however, I found, on a cheaper contract, the E720, essentially released at the same time. Review of Samsung E720

320d - Potentially expensive failure

Advantages: Preformance, Economy, choice of trim, extras
Disadvantages: reliability - Expensive turbo failure, Rear Seat Space, Boot Space

...This is my first BMW, and I am sorry to say my last. The 320d has a reputation for turbo failure, which I believe applies only to pre July 2003 models. This failure can happen at any time regardless of service history and so cannot be predicted or circumvented and is a widely publicised failure amongst 320d owners on the internet!. The cost of repairing this vary between £2000 - £3000 and is not something which I would expect from a name like BMW. Other drawbacks include driver comfort, which is virtually non existant, after 15 mins in the drivers seat you rapidly experience another feature of the 320D - namely BMW "Numb Bum", which I must admit was not publicised in the brochure. The driving position is also somewhat strange. Both rear seat and boot space are limited and certainly not inline with the size of vehicle, and all BMW...

Advantages: Easy to use, excellent features

...When taking out a new contract with orange I had to decide on what phone to get with it. I have always liked Samsungs as they tend to have great features and are easy to use. The E720 caught my eye as it was one of the most up-to-date phones at the time and had excellent features. In addition, it is small and lightweight (being approximately 80g) and is also attractive. The front of the phone is light and dark grey and boasts an external display, which displays the time, network information and a graphic of your choice. The 1.1 megapixel camera is also on the front of the phone and there are controls for the mp3 player, which you can listen to whilst the phone is closed. Canon EOS 450D - Superb!

Advantages: Extremely easy to use, fantastic picture quality, long battery life.

Dell photo printer 720

...I bought this Dell printer several months ago when my old printer broke down. I have never really needed to print much (only the occasional essay or B-day card), so I decided to go for this cheap Dell 720 photo printer. I looked for the cheapest printer I could find and I believe this one cost between £30-35 on the Dell website. I have just checked on the website and I don?t think they even sell this version anymore.
