D-Link DSL G624T, There Back At It!

Advantages: Built-in Modem, Versitile, Easy to use / Setup, Vertical Stand
Disadvantages: None as of yet

...I have owned, sold and setup many routers over past year, the home wireless age is truly here. D-Link have now brought us the G624T!, At almost half the size of the previous models and now featuring a vertical stand, D-Link have certanly set the bar high. For many home users, the idea of setting up a wireless modem router may be scary, nothing could be simpler here because as usual D-Link have provided a very quick and simple method of installing your new router without the need to dial into the router though your browser and spend hours restarting and saving (Belkin!). It is also important to note that the G624T features 'click n connect' technology which in simple terms means that adding clients takes just two clicks! The G624T hosts many features, such as an integrated firewall for added security, 4 built-in 10/100Base...

"This D-Link has ceased to be, it is an ex-router"

Advantages: Easy to physically install
Disadvantages: Short working life, loses settings regularly

...Back in March 2007, I bought my first laptop. This brought the number of computers in our house up to a grand total of three (my own desktop, my daughter's and the new laptop). It struck me that perhaps it was time to get networked. A hard wired network was out of the question, as I didn't want to start drilling holes and running cables everywhere, so a wireless solution seemed to be the way to go. I did a little research, as I'm not too au fait with this side of computing (though I have assisted in installing one before). Eventually in Pissy Werld (sorry, PC World), I found this package from D-Link. It consisted of the wirless router itself and a seperate antennae (destined for my daughter's bedroom PC). Also in the box were installation CDs for each of the two bits of hardware, a power supply and an additional ethernet cable.. So...

Go Wireless with D-Link

Advantages: Easy to set up and use, Stable, Good support
Disadvantages: A bit out dated

...The D-Link DWL-G650+ is a PCMCIA wireless (WiFi) card, which plugs into an available PCMCIA slot on a laptop. With this card, it wireless-enables a laptop, assuming it doesn't have built-in wireless already. The card cost me about £25 at the time but you may be able to find the same one cheaper now. Most of these seem to be in this price range if not less, since they are becoming redundant with new laptops already having built-in cards. It's a 802.11G card, which means theoretically, it can transfer 54Mbits/s but they never get to that speed. Most residential broadband connections nowadays only range up to 10Mbit/s. INSTALLATION I find the installation of this card has always been very easy. I just install the driver and software off the CD and then plug the card in. This literally takes minutes. Only thing I'm not too keen on is...

D-link DP-300U for all your printing needs

Advantages: Link upto 3 printers on 1 IP address. Simple setup
Disadvantages: None

...Where I work, we have always purchased the HP Jetdirect print server devices. However, when we bought a whole load of Magicard badge printers we found out after several painful days that these only worked with the D-link DP300u print servers due to some strange setting within the printer. With this information, we were forced into buying the D-link blind with no time to do any background research or fact finding. The D-link is a 3 port print server, 2 ports are serial with the other being USB. This means that upto 3 printers can be attached to the print server at any one time. At the time we bought them, they were around £80 each. --Whats in the box-- The D-link print server comes in a very compact box with just enough room for the components. There is the print server itself which is nicely designed to comply...

Dlink Strikes Again

Advantages: 8 Port
Disadvantages: Static.

...Dlink DES 1008D Why a switch? Switches are the backbones of a network. They are the devices that at all the computers in the office have no choice but to use. They are a great tool in modern computer networks. The switch allows communication between computers, servers and network printers. What does a switch need to do? 1. Connect multiple computers 2. Be Fast 3. Be Reliable 4. Be user Friendly So will the DES 1008D model handle the pressure? 1. Connectivity The DES 1008D has a total of 8 ports witch means that you could have 8 computers connecting simultaneously, or you could have a variety or pcs, servers, printers, and other networks switches connecting to it. 8 ports will happily support a small office or home based network. 2. Speed So we have found out that it has 8 ports so what will...

D-Link DWA-140. Dodgy Wireless Ability

Advantages: Wireless N technology is good for speed and data throughput...
Disadvantages: ...but if the adapter keeps dropping out (like this one does) then it is useless

...my net experience. So...that's alright then. I need not have kept rebooting. All I had to do was pull.... what? You mean that's not a design feature? Ok. In that case it is not up to the job - I want reliability?not a lack of ability. I summarise the D-Link DWA-140 as follows: D-Links Woeful Adaptor Dodgy Wireless Ability Doesn't Work Always Dis Was Awful Don't Want Another Don't Waste Any (money on this adapter) Recommend it? That will be a 'No', then ps I researched the drop out problem on the internet - apparently it is well known so I am not alone in this - you have been warned!!...

DeLightful DLink

Advantages: 'Free' if you buy the DSL G604T :-)
Disadvantages: Becomes very hot, relatively large for a USB dongle

...offerings to consider. If you have a desktop then you may be better investing in a PCI card with an aerial extension for good reception/transmission. I think these USB dongles are best suited to retro-fitting laptops that came without WLAN or for those people dis-inclined to take the lid off of their desktop. Note: DLINK have released the DWL-G132 since this model, so if you want proprietory 108Mbps performance take a look at that....

D-Link Bluetooth Adapter can make you happier

Advantages: Saves you money, quick transfer from one device to another...
Disadvantages: None till now...

...I think this is the tinniest product I ever reviewed?but being so useful to me I thought I'll write some words about it. D-Link DBT-122 USB Bluetooth Adapter it is a very helpful tool for those people who'd like to transfer some files from one machine to another. Me I use it to transfer mp3 music from my PC to my telephone. I bought this small item from www.expansys.com.cy and I paid for it only £12, a bit expensive but what's cheap today? It came in a very big box (I really don't understand why it has to be so big) which had inside: - The USB Bluetooth Adapter - CD-ROM - USB extension cable - User Manual Driver Installation After you get everything out from the box, the first thing you have to do - as I did - is to insert the CD in your CD-ROM Drive and to follow the steps which will appear on your...

Good choice for a wireless router

Advantages: Small, space-saving, good value for money and effective
Disadvantages: Can be intimidating at first, may need an extra cable

.... As I am running Windows XP I didn't need to install anything, so after following the very detailed step by step instructions found on the CD, I was almost done. After running a simple D-Link configuration wizard, I had wireless internet access on my laptop. File/printer sharing was a bit more tricky. After spending nearly two days unsuccessfully trying to get it sorted, I called in a professional friend who does this for a living, and who took one look before turning off my Sygate Pro Firewall, and then everything was sorted just fine. It was very difficult to configure the Sygate program to allow network access to the desktop, so I have uninstalled it. My friend assures me that the firewall security included with the router will be more than sufficient to protect my network, and I have also discovered that the Windows Firewall...
