Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine

...INTRO The Belkin N+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). I replaced that with a second hand Belkin, which worked fine but unfortunately, a power cut killed the wireless on it. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. Go Wireless with D-Link

...times it's been unstable is when the wireless router / Access Point isn't working properly. Transfer rates, as expected are not as fast as when using a wired connection (using Cat5 network cable). On my 2Mbit ADSL connection (capable of up to 230KB/s), speeds typically start off between 100-200KB/s but seem to start to drop to around 90KB/s. This is while the laptop is about 50cm from my router so it's nothing to do with distance or obstructions. It's not top speed but it's still pretty quick. It does exactly what it's supposed to and does it well. It's easy to use as once set up, you just connect to your network or Internet as usual, just without wires.
