...The D-Link DWL-G650+ is a PCMCIA wireless (WiFi) card, which plugs into an available PCMCIA slot on a laptop. With this card, it wireless-enables a laptop, assuming it doesn't have built-in wireless already. The card cost me about £25 at the time but you may be able to find the same one cheaper now. Most of these seem to be in this price range if not less, since they are becoming redundant with new laptops already having built-in cards. It's a 802.11G card, which means theoretically, it can transfer 54Mbits/s but they never get to that speed. Most residential broadband connections nowadays only range up to 10Mbit/s. D-link DP-300U for all your printing needs

Advantages: Link upto 3 printers on 1 IP address. Simple setup

However, when we bought a whole load of Magicard badge printers we found out after several painful days that these only worked with the D-link DP300u print servers due to some strange setting within the printer. With this information, we were forced into buying the D-link blind with no time to do any background research or fact finding. Disadvantages: Becomes very hot, relatively large for a USB dongle

...offerings to consider. If you have a desktop then you may be better investing in a PCI card with an aerial extension for good reception/transmission. I think these USB dongles are best suited to retro-fitting laptops that came without WLAN or for those people dis-inclined to take the lid off of their desktop. Note: DLINK have released the DWL-G132 since this model, so if you want proprietory 108Mbps performance take a look at that....

...Back in March 2007, I bought my first laptop. This brought the number of computers in our house up to a grand total of three (my own desktop, my daughter's and the new laptop). It struck me that perhaps it was time to get networked. A hard wired network was out of the question, as I didn't want to start drilling holes and running cables everywhere, so a wireless solution seemed to be the way to go. I did a little research, as I'm not too au fait with this side of computing (though I have assisted in installing one before). Eventually in Pissy Werld (sorry, PC World), I found this package from D-Link. It consisted of the wirless router itself and a seperate antennae (destined for my daughter's bedroom PC). Advantages: Simple set up, price, no drivers to mess with, no gimmicks
Disadvantages: very minor compatibility issues

...an Airport firmware update and all was well. The other problem was a frequent loss of connection, but this was sorted quite easily after referring to my ISP's help pages (Tiscali). I needed to tweak a couple of settings on the modem's home page and change the DHCP lease time which was set for only 60 seconds. Since then it's been fine, with download speeds being quite a bit snappier than with the USB system. With three computers sharing a 2Mbps connection, performance is as good as one could hope for and even borders on quite impressive at times. Definitely recommended for Apple fans, but check your Airport firmware is up to date if connecting to a base station. To sum up, this is a very worthwhile upgrade from any USB modem, however if you're going wireless at the same time take a look at this company's wireless routers for an all in one...

D-Link DSL-2542B - router is a HOT buy !

...Purchased it from Amazon and tried on our line. Main problem was: disconnecting! ADSL is perfectly fine and I am also an IT Technician. Old modem and others 'still' work fine and they are back in place. I was trying to modernise and get ready for ADSL2 an this modem should have worked fine on normal ADSL too and it gets dangerously hot in my view and after 2 emails with D-Link they did not reply any more to me avoiding the problem. So, I sent it back to Amazon and asked for a full refund - not Amazon fault and thinking that it was at 'only' £. 24.99 and no postage, that should have been a warning ! I hope for D-Link sake, it was only mine faulty and it is not a normal way or working for this modem. It does not mean other modems are faulty, mine was and I asked D-Link to send one out (just the modem) and pick up...
