Advantages: Its a full digital SLR with interchangeable lenses Disadvantages: Slight noise at 400ISO, poor strap design, nowt else !
...I worked my way thru the ranks of digital cameras. I started with a tiny Fuji MX1300 1.2MP with NO features. I soon tired of that and upgraded to an Olympus C40z which was great, it did so much more and I even did my sons wedding photos with it. Then I got the MegaPixel bug and upgraded to a Fuji s602Pro...... This nearly satisfied my cravings as a photographer, but there were things as an astronomer I still couldn?t do, like long exposures. So, a penny saving exercise and several eBay sales of junk later and I now own not only the Nikon D70 with the superb 18-70mm DX lens, but also the 70-300mm G lens for an extra £100 !
* FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Its big and a lot heavier than the Fuji, but fits nicely into my hands. All the controls are very well placed ergonomically and I can adjust most essential settings now (after 2 weeks use...

Review of Nikon D70
Advantages: durable, reliable underwater housing Disadvantages: The iTTL mode is only compatible with Ikelite's DS strobes
...The Ikelite housing is a durable, reliable piece of equipment. I have used this housing with my Nikon D70 camera. It is easy to handle, but the lock button are a bit rough to lock down. I find Ikelite?s transparent (clear polycarbonate) material useful, it allows me to peek through the housing and actually see the buttons in my camera and to make sure there aren?t any sand in the o-ring seal. The buttons are quite hard to push sometimes, but you?ll get used to it. The strobes can be easily released by pressing the button on the handle. Sometimes I use this if I want to move one strobe, and have my buddy handheld the strobe.
Unfortunately the iTTL mode is only compatible with Ikelite?s DS strobes, since I use INON strobes, I had to set the setting to manual....
Advantages: easy to use - quality of product -speed - just cracking! better than canon or nikon 50 Disadvantages: Price but then SLR digital cameras are all dear! No memory card included
...I purchased my camera just before the summer in anticipation of a trip to Venice - a photographer's paradise. Having compared the available digital SLRs it was so apparent to me that the NIKON D70S was by far superior in many respects. The size of the camera means that you can hold it without fear of it dropping or slipping out of your hand - I found other cameras too small. The feel exudes quality - there are no flimsy bits, the lens supplied (nikon) is a top quality lens - not a budget version found on the cheaper d50 or on the canon 350d.
The speed of functions is stunning compared to my previous digital camera (pseudo SLR Olympus) - formatting of memeory card is done in a flash, readyness of integral flash is very fast and write speed to memory card is also very quick, even with a slow er version of the compact flash card.

Review of Nikon D70s
Advantages: Solid, professional class images; fast Disadvantages: Not overly simple to use; small LCD screen; auto settings can disappoint
...No questioning the Nikon quality..it's robust and solid like it's reputation but not the best buy in it's class for the amateur. I should state at this stage that I'm no professional although I do use the camera to back up my magazine articles so I hope you'll find my views useful.
The D70s is fast and produces great images but you need a good understanding of light and exposure to get the best out of it. To this end I would recommend weaning yourself off the automatic functions as soon as possible. I use the camera with a DX AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm for general use and back it up with a 55-200mm for more precise work. One downside of the first lens is that you do get some vignetting at the widest angle - especially with a filter. The camera uses a D lens mount so will take a wide range of other manufacturer lenses. The camera offers...

Review of Nikon D70s
Advantages: amazing quality, easy to operate, solid build Disadvantages: no card
...I have been waiting to buy a digital SLR for a few years. Then Nikon broke the £1000 barrier with the D70. The lens you get in the kit is amazing quality and worth a fortune - so go for this over the body only for def! I was lucky to take the D70 on a 3 week trip crossing the Atlantic to New York, and then went to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon..... and took over 1000 pictures. A massive choice of environments to photograph! And the camera seemed to capture so many moments of the this adventure. Easy to use, fast to set up and change in manual or shutter/ aperature priory or cusomise the program modes. Brilliant for experimental work - just keep shooting away and trying things. I had great fun in Times Square using slow shutter speeds to capture traffic movement and trailing lights. I manage to capture some amazing views from the top...

Review of Nikon D70
Advantages: Shows off loads of photos without the expense of priting Disadvantages: Distracting in slideshow mode
...would be nice, and that's what digital photo frames excel at.
I don't suppose I did myself any favours by buying the Sony DPF-D70 from John Lewis in Kingston, price-wise, but it was the last shopping Saturday before her birthday, so an element of desperation was creeping in. Parting with close on one hundred smackers does indeed appear to be about £10 over the top - so much for 'Never Knowingly Undersold'.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
My very first impression was 'My God, isn't the box heavy?'
Refreshingly, the packaging was an ingenious fold of cardboard with not a hint of blown foam to dispose of, so it was all immediately recyclable.
Contents were quite simply the frame itself, the AC adapter built into a UK plug, the remote control and the manual.
UPON SWITCH ON
This would have to be my first impression of any importance...
Advantages: viewfinder, resolution, lcd, menu system, build, professional, responsive, metering, battery, d-lighting, AF, ergonomics Disadvantages: dslr dust(?), kit lens CA, incandescent white bal, price, expensive RAW software extra.
...The long-awaited upgrade/replacement to the D50 &/or D70s, the D80 is a sterling product which packs an awful lot into a tried-and-tested body.
As this is a review, not a specification list, its features will be reviewed, not listed (which is surely why you visit Ciao!); specs are all over the internet, the implementations of these features are what we need to know . . .
First off, the body
Ergonomically, this is as good as they come for entry-level and semi-pro bodies. A mix of the d50's lightness and compactness, with the d70's solid feel and build-quality, it is a wonder to hold and use. Many compare this to the Canon 350D/400D, which is physically much smaller and more cramped to hold. You only have to pick the d80 up to be won over from it's rivals, it's perfectly balanced, even with the lens attached, and feels solid...

Review of Nikon D80
Advantages: Nikon build-quality. SLR flexibility. Great pictures. Fantastic battery life. Disadvantages: Much bulkier than a pocket camera - one for a real enthusiast
...Just to keep you up to date, this review refers to what is (only just) an older model now, having been superceded by the D70S which is essentially a rationalisation of some improvements to the camera's firmware. This alters the way the auto-focus selects things and tidies up up the menu system - oh yes, and physically, they've made the rear viewing screen a tad bigger.
If you see a D70 at a bargain price, don't hesitate. Very fairly, Nikon have made the updated firmware available for download, so now I effectively have a D70S except for the larger screen at the back (bit difficult to download that unless you work on Starship Enterprise!)
And now back to the plot............

Review of Nikon D70
Advantages: Brilliant Camera Disadvantages: Doesn't come with a card
...And Birthday, Easter, Mothers day, Fathers Day etc.
Yes the Nikon D70 is a serious piece of kit, and we have been after one for ages. The delay was not restricted solely by price, as there is a serious shortage of these cameras available in the UK (possibly world wide) and if you are lucky enough to find the body, the lens that everyone wants is even more scarce (more about that later) so that?s the availability, pretty much impossible, we eventually found ours in a small shop in Inverness, and I did see one in Oban but before you all rush up there that was a week ago last Tuesday.
Now the other thing with SLR cameras (digital and analogue) is that you can not guarantee that they will come with a lens, ever since we started getting serious about photography we have always had Nikon (starting with the 401 then moving to the F80...

Review of Nikon D70
Advantages: Great battery life, and still a great camera. Now even cheaper to get hold of. Disadvantages: Not as many features as later models. Sensor can get dusty, though there are tools
...The Nikon D70 and D70s were a breakthrough in performance/price when they came out. They have now been succeeded by the D80 and D90, but this does not make the D70 a less worthy camera.
It can be noted that it is 'only' 6 mega pixels compared to 12 mega pixels of the later models, and even compact cameras have more MP's than the D70s. This should only concern you if you are making large prints though. It still uses a large and high quality sensor that will take very high quality photos, in comparison to even a new and expensive compact camera.
If you are looking for a cheap entry into the world of dSLR I would recommend it. You can find it second hand for less than £200, its quite a bargain. There are many guides out there on how to get the best out of it as it was and still is such a popular camera.
I am not going to go into its...
