Test drive the Daewoo Tacuma
Advantages: CD Multichanger, acres of space
Disadvantages: High tax band, mpg
...--Background--
We bought this car as a second car, two years ago. Previously, my wife had had the Daewoo Nexia for over 3 years with very little problems. We knew that Daewoo offered us no thrills but we also liked the smooth ride it gave. In the end we settled on a 51 reg CDX which set up back £4000.
--From the outside--
For those of you that are not aware, the Tacuma is classed as an MPV. I would say the shape is now slightly dated and I would liken the shape to the Renault Scenic. This model comes with the roof bars as standard and alloy wheels.
--From the drivers seat--
Road visibility is very good as you are higher up than a normal car. Saying that, I can not see the end of the bonnet from the drivers position. I am 5ft 10 so maybe someone significantly taller would not have a problem. The dashboard certainly...

...Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2005)
Well its been a while but here we go, its time for yet again another review straight from the horses mouth (Note : Im not a horse lol)
Well anyway, me being a first time driver, I wanted something that wouldnt have me out the door with payments for tax and insurance, didnt guzzle petrol like no tomorrow, and was CHEAP.....not to mention a steering wheel and set of four tyres to come in handy I guess...
I first start looking at the nissan micra (no NOT that one, the ones from 00-03 that come equipped with power steering and airbags) but even at THAT I couldnt afford it.....not to mention the fact it reminded me of a BEETLE or some other insect of some sort.
Then I seen it....
2002
Sunburnt orange
Small
Cute and Perky
Smiling (swear it does!)
AND BEST OF ALL.....
Didnt look as if it...

The leaking daewoo matiz
Advantages: Spacious
Disadvantages: It leaked rusty water, lost all power and had clunky gears
...From personal experience with the Daewoo Matiz (w Reg) i would not recommend this car. I was insured on this car but it belonged to my brother, and it had faults since we bought it. Maybe it was due to the fact that the car was not new, but even after we carried out repairs on it, the problems remained the same.
Our first problem with the car was the clunky gears, they were hard to move and often got stuck and made weird noises! It was annoying to say the least, but it was a problem my brother could just cope with considering it was low priced
However, on the way to work one morning, on a 70mph dual carriageway, my brother was driving at 20mph and i told him to put his foot down, but he did, the car just had lost all of its power for no apparent reason. After calling the RAC, we were advised to take it to a garage for a look over...

A Daewoo for Me.
Advantages: reasonable price, only insurance and road tax to pay after the first year.
Disadvantages: Insurance and road tax only included for first year
...When my 10 year old Nissan Sunny was needing to be replaced (MOT, insurance and automobile rescue almost expired, service and repairs required) I looked around for a second – hand car, I also had a look in a Daewoo garage and saw the 3 door Lanos 1.4S for £7999, which I believed was out of my price range, however on discussion with a showroom assistant (“they don’t have salesmen”), I was offered the Lanos at a price I thought I could afford, with a special offer of 1 years free insurance and cut price purchase scheme. Delivery was scheduled on the day after the MOT expired on the Sunny, but if they could not bring this forward by a day, then they would provide a courtesy car for this period. I had just bought six months road tax for the Sunny, and was told that as the car would not have a MOT, then I would be...

Daewoo Freeview Box
Advantages: Great value for money
Disadvantages: Lost signal now and again
...As someone who lives a busy life i feel that paying a monthly fee for Sky, NTL etc is not worth my while as i watch very little TV. As a result i decided a one of payment for Freeview to be my best option.
I bought my Daewoo freeview box in Tesco's for £49.95 about a year and a half ago now and have been very happy with my purchase. The box was incredibly easy to set up, via connection through a scart cable. Within ten minutes of opening the packaging my freeview box was up and running after following the on-screen instructions.
The selection of channels on the freeview service is enough for my needs. Amongst others you get BBC3 & 4, ITV2 & 3, three 24 hour news channels, 2 childrens channels, 2 music channels, several shopping channels and almost every radio station possible. There are also new channels being added...

Woo. A Daewoo.
Advantages: Great for its price
Disadvantages: Not Nicam
...I had a Daewoo video recorder for Christmas and was not expecting brilliant things form it. How wrong I was! It is brilliant. DVD is great to have to watch films on but what about Recording? You still need this facility. That is where my Daewoo steps in.
Its got 6 reading heads so the picture quality is excellent for such a budget Video. It is not Nicam but it is Hi Fi Compatible. Useful for hooking up to the stereo and annoying the neighbours!
It has the facility to be both Loing Play and Short play so you can squeeze twice as much on your tapes than you used to. Quality hardly suffers on long play either.
The best thing in my mind is the ability to play both PAL and NTSC videos on one machine. I was sent a American Format Hockey video last year and when I watched it on my old video it was black and white and sound quality suffered...

It has to be Daewoo for Freeview
Advantages: excellent reception, simple set-up, reliability
Disadvantages: not gorgeous to look at
...Several months ago I got rid of my Sky family pack subscription after realising I was paying a ridiculous amount of money each month and only watching free-to-view channels anyway. Sky duly banished, off I went to get myself a freeview set top box. After a nasty experience with the cheapest I could find (a Mitsubishi that didn't work properly from day one and also interfered with my terrestrial channels and video), I got myself a Daewoo Setpal and haven't looked back.
LOOKS
The Daewoo Setpal is about 3 inches high, 10 inches wide and 7 deep, and comes in a silver coloured plastic-type material. It isn't the most t beautiful or expensive looking piece of equipment, but then no set top boxes are, and it's not so ugly that you have to hide it away either. It's also very light, so if you've no room to sit it alongside something...

Thatll be the daewoo til i die
Advantages: Excellent little Runner
Disadvantages: No Frills Bodywork
...A note to Ciao: Daewoo make PCs as well as sell them!!!!
(hence this op being here!!)
Well i've been quiet on the writing front for a while now, and as usual have been looking through Ciao reading and rating on my trusty PC which i have now owned for roughly 2 1/2 years and have taken completely for granted.
My Daewoo PC. My trusty friend who never fails me. Never ignores me. Is always there in my hour of need!!( what a nerd i am!!)
When i bought my Daewoo PC from Comet (a crap store which will get a separate angry op in time!) i thought to myself, "but Daewoo make cars dont they"??!
Judging by the way my computer runs, i am not surprised by the fact that indeed they do make cars, and would go as far as to say that when i switch it on it responds just as a car would when turning the key in the ignition! (purr purr...

Daewoo Tacuma 2.0 CDX Auto
Advantages: Cheap to buy with low mileage available at low cost
Disadvantages: Thirsty Petrol Tank
...Recently my wife and I bought a Daewoo Tacuma 2.0 CDX Automatic, manufactured in 2003.
Our previous car had been very trustworthy, but with around 100k on the clock, and limited space with our growing family we really needed a new car. Our old one was beginning to fall apart too, and was becoming a source of embarrassment to be honest.
The only problem was, we hardly had any money to spend and we had to get a car very cheaply, but it had to be reliable and with low mileage. We needed it to be quite spacious too. This was a challenge and had been stressing me out for a month or so.
After perusing many car dealerships, car publications, etc, I saw the Tacuma in a garage. It was the right size, immaculate inside and out, and had only done 26,000 miles.
Now, I understand that this car is not economical. However, generally speaking we do...

Daewoo or not Daewoo - that is the question
Advantages: Cheap to buy and run, Daewoo servicing package, stylish
Disadvantages: Bland, cheap looking cockpit, lack of extras
...When I first mentioned to people that my wife had bought a Daewoo Matiz, people gave me that look normally reserved for young kids - you know, the 'aaahh, never mind, it'll get better' type of thing. Still, who cares. I don't (and more importantly neither does my wife).
Firstly, let me point out that buying a car the Daewoo way is totally different to the traditional way - you know, car salesman in either flash suit or sheepskin coat, 'Can I help you, mate?', sharp intake of breath when he sees the pride & joy that you're trading in ('there's no call for them, mate - I can't sell 'em), the 'I can't knock any more of the price - it's rock bottom as it is (and if I do, my commission goes out of the window). Having been through this many times, it was refreshing to do business with Daewoo.
You walk in and talk to a sales negotiator...
