The Dakota hotel: cheap hotel in the heart of San Francisco

Advantages: Cheap, clean and location, location, location!
Disadvantages: old-fashioned, elevator from hell

...In 2007-2008 I lived in San Francisco for work for 4.5 months. The first two week I spent in the Dakota Hotel, in search for a spot of my own. Dakota hotel caught my eye for a number of reasons: the price and the location. Normally, you'd have to rob a bank or two to stay in a hotel in the heart of San Francisco for two weeks. Luckily, Dakota offered an attractive rate for long-term stays. I thought it would certainly be worth a look, given it's excellent location. Location You see, location is undoubtedly one of Dakto Hotels strongest points. This hotel is situated on 606 Post Street, approximately 2 blocks from Union Square. So I thought I would also review the Greenwich Fan Museum as it would compliment the previous review nicely. The Fan Museum at Greenwich is the first and only museum to be dedicated to fans. It was founded by Helene Alexander in 1991 to share her life long passion for the subject. She has a collection of 3500 objects which are not all on show at the same time due to the fragility of many of the fans. It's housed in two adjoining skilfully restored Georgina houses on Royle Hill in the centre of Greenwich. The museum is just opposite the north western corner of Greenwich Park just round the corner from the Maritime Museum. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...One of the many heaters I tried was this Dimplex free standing/wall mounted convection heater with Fan Boost. I decided to try this after a returning my 4th failed Bionaire BCV3100 heater. The wall mounting arrangement was very affective in securely locking the heater to the wall using 3 simple hooks. The unit is very light weight. There are 2 switches on the side. A power On/Off switch and below that a Hi/Low switch. Below the switches there is a mechanical thermostat to further regulate the heater. On the front of the heater integrated into the turbo fan grill there is a switch to turn the turbo fan on or off. A nice feature is on a hot day you can run the turbo fan without any heat, this provides a cool draft from the heater although it is not as affective as a desktop fan though. ...Before writing this review I checked to see if any others had been written about this movie.I found that two had been written both of which gave it a less than positive review.That left me thinking whether I had watched the same movie, as I thought it was very well put together. The only negative thing I could say about the movie is that it is set against the world of baseball, which I know will not be everyones favourite setting for a film. However, I think that the baseball setting is irrelivant in one way,as it could just as well have been set in the world of any major sport. ...Right from the opening credits this film looks promising: a scrapbook of film clippings flicker beneath the atonal recitation of a poem about baseball. The effect is truly eerie. After that, there's not an original moment in this film. Based on Peter Abrahams' book, The Fan chronicles the mental breakdown of a blue-collar chump obsessed with a baseball star. In this particular spin on the psycho fan theme, Robert DeNiro plays Gil Renard, a washed-up knife salesman with a failed marriage and an awkward relationship with his young son. Gil's one passion, outside of selling really good knives, is baseball. His team is the Giants and his hero is Bobby Rayburn, a hotshot hitter played by Wesley Snipes.
